Thanks for uploading File:Geograph-3315148-by-Derek-Harper.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Hello, since you were a participant in the above Deletion discussion I wanted to make sure you were informed of the new Wikilegal report at meta:Wikilegal/Copyright Status of Sound Recordings Fixed Prior to February 15 1972 related to this issue. Wikilegal left a notice on Template talk:PD-US-record saying "Wikilegal is a place for the community to engage in a discourse on legal issues the projects face. Although made by Foundation legal staff or interns, these posts are not intended as legal advice, but they are an opportunity for inquiry and discussion. See meta:Wikilegal for more." -- Green Cardamom (talk) 19:48, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Help Needed

Hi Thincat, how did you make 'Graham round.svg'? nunmap (edit this page to talk) 13:50, 12 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I downloaded File:Lake District National Park UK relief location map.png to my PC. I did not use Ordnance Survey OpenData because I don't know how to – I simply copied the attribution from the file description page. I imported the file to GIMP, cropped it and exported it. I imported to Inkscape, added peaks and towns visually using locations from some map or other (I forget which map, maybe a printed OS map I have, maybe an OS online map). I then added annotation using Inkscape's vector graphics and uploaded to File:Bob Graham round.svg. Is that what you are wanting to know? It's quite a lot of work but (being retired!) I enjoyed doing it. Best wishes. Thincat (talk) 14:41, 12 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In Special:Diff/513818709, you added {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}} to File:Glenkiln Cross , by Henry Moore - geograph.org.uk - 223434.jpg. I suspect that this was a mistake, so I've removed it. If that's incorrect, and in addition to going by the name of Roger Stansfîeld on Wikipedia you also go by Lynne Kirton on Geograph then obviously you should revert this change. In that case, noting the connection in your Geograph profile or your Wikipedia user page would make it more obvious that this kind of change is legitimate. --bjh21 (talk) 10:52, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, yes, I did add "self" which was entirely wrong. I've no idea how that happened. No, I'm not Lynne Kirkton (!) and, although I suspect I may have a Geograph account, I've never uploaded anything there. At the time of my edit I was updating some FoP US/UK information on various images so I'll go and check if I made the same mistake elsewhere. Thank you for sorting this out.Thincat (talk) 11:18, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

September 2021: it's Wiki Loves Monuments time again!

[edit]

Hi

You're receiving this message because you've previously contributed to the annual Wiki Loves Monuments contest in Ireland. We'd be delighted if you would enter again this year, and continue to build on the image archive of Ireland's built heritage.

You can find more details at the Wiki Loves Monuments Ireland website. If you have images taken in other countries, you can check the international options. Once again, this year's contest runs until 30 September 2021.

Thanks again for your help and enthusiasm! Smirkybec (talk) 04:40, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have a question: why isn't Cenozoic there? It was proposed way back in 1840, or I don't know something? --Jack Jackie Pomi (talk) 09:52, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. That's a good question and I haven't got a very good answer! I only included what was immediately relevant to a Wikipedia draft I was (and still am) preparing. I based the diagram on (1883) Advanced Text-book of Physical Geography, William Blackwood & Sons, p. 39 where Cainozoic (and, looking on to page 40, Quaternary) appear. Also, I should perhaps have put Eozoic rather than Precambrian. I'll think what to do and at the moment I think I'll add them but I might just put a remark on the file description page. Thank you for commenting on this. Thincat (talk) 12:09, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jack Jackie Pomi: I've added to the diagram. Thincat (talk) 15:02, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
