Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

[edit]Wikimedia Commons does not accept fair use content.
We do this because Commons is a shared media repository. Downstream wikis have different policies based on local laws. Uses that are acceptable under US law, for example, may not be acceptable in many other countries with more restrictive rules. In addition, fair use is not compatible with our aim as a collection of freely distributable media files. Therefore, Commons cannot legally rely on fair use provisions. Non-free content that may be used with reference to fair use may be uploaded locally if your project allows this.

Although this is not a talk page, most of the guidelines in Commons:Talk page guidelines still apply. In particular, Commons:Talk page guidelines#In general says:
- Do not edit or remove comments made by other people unless they are offensive, uncivil or otherwise violate the guidelines or policies of Commons. Otherwise, such edits are rude and make it difficult for others to follow discussions.
So please don't edit my comments.
Also, please don't make major changes to your own comments without stating you have done so, and definitely don't remove files from a mass deletion request without stating you have done so. A good way to do this is to write <del>deleted text</del>. Brianjd (talk) 11:24, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
Thank you and my apologies. I was trying to find a way to delete these photos quickly. As you can probably tell, I am quite new to using Wikipedia (hence why I made the mistake of my initial uploads) and was trying to figure out how to do it and had "cut" some of the file names to paste somewhere else. I did not realize the issues that it causes and my intent was not to be rude. I sincerely appreciate any efforts in deleting the photos with the subjects face. I did re-upload new images that cropped out the subject's face for the pages. My goal right now is to remove the other uploads ASAP since it's early enough. I'll just leave everything alone for now. If you are able to further assist in deleting the requested photos from the Wiki Commons, I would greatly appreciate it. My trial and error attempts are causing more issues. These are the ones I want deleted from the Wiki Commons. I am not sure how to put the delete request on each of the photos. Like I said above, I replaced most of these images with a cropped version or they are not being used on pages.
- Stump removal.jpg (file)
- Breast drill.jpg (file)
- Sickle Used in Field.jpg (file)
- American style scythe.jpg (file)
- Froe in use.jpg (file)
- Froe being used.jpg (file)
This one can remain on here.
- Flail being demonstrated.jpg (file)
Thanks again for any assistance. Skibjm08 (talk) 16:44, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- I was trying to find a way to delete these photos quickly. This is not a social media site; while administrators will generally grant courtesy deletion requests like this, you generally should not expect your uploads to be deleted. Also, the licence cannot be revoked: even if the files are deleted here, others can continue to use them.
- I did re-upload new images that cropped out the subject's face for the pages. This is good. It helps to avoid any debate about whether the original images are useful or not, which helps them get deleted.
- I added File:Breast drill.jpg back to the request; the other files were already listed in the request; all files already have deletion request notices on them. Nothing further to do except wait for an administrator to look at the request. This may take some time, as there is a huge backlog of deletion requests. Brianjd (talk) 03:52, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
File:Lewis and Clark at Kaw Point Sign.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |
