Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:10, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

The Sultan's Daughter (engraving by H. Cook after Parris)
[edit]I hope all is well with you.
I note you uploaded picture this in March 2011, giving its origin as the Friendship's Offering annual for 1835. This image appears on the wikipedia page for w:Edmund Thomas Parris and I am sure you are right in its attribution but I cannot access that edition of Friendship's Offering to confirm. The reason for my enquiry is that this painting is also shown on the wikipedia page for w:Louisa Sharpe as "Portrait of a Turkish lady holding a rose" with an attribution based on an auction catalogue (from User:Victuallers), in which the sale entry obviously no longer exists. No correction, one way or the other can be made without absolute authority, so I am merely bringing this to your attention.
Esme Shepherd (talk) 15:16, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
@Esme Shepherd: I think it is all consistent. The Sultan's Daughter is an engraving by H. Cook based on a painting by Parris. The engraving was included in the Friendship's Offering annual for 1835 and then the painting by Parris was sold much later by auction and I used that as another reliable source. I havn't done any checking, but doesn't that narrative fit the sources? Victuallers (talk) 16:18, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
This is what I thought. My point was that on Louisa Sharpe's page, the illustration is captioned 'Louisa Sharpe's "Portrait of a Turkish lady holding a Rose"'. This does not appear to be consistent. Esme Shepherd (talk) 18:29, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
