Image Tagging Image:Valley Mall (Harrisonburg).jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Valley Mall (Harrisonburg).jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL-self to release it under the GFDL or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Image categories
Hi. I edited the categories for Image:Cross County Mall Kmart.jpg which you uploaded. Some, such as putting the image in Category:1899 were clearly inappropriate. Were the categories automatically generated? If so you might wish to check them when uploading. Thanks, -- Infrogmation 15:06, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- Indeed, they were auto-generated. I'll be more vigilant next time. Schuminweb 08:26, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
MetroRail map with silver line
Hey. On the MetroRail map you made with the Silver line added, is there any chance you could clean it up a bit so the Silver-Blue-Orange triplex doesn't overlap with Red past L'Enfant Plaza? I was thinking you could narrow the triplex so it fits in the width of a typical duplex. --Kitch 18:23, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
I think this image should be deleted, cause nowhere is stated, that women on picute agreed for it's pulication!

Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT (talk) 06:10, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Where would I put photographs of Washington Metrorail destination signs? In the rolling stock category? Or an entirely new category? Woogers (talk) 03:03, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- Are you referring to the train destination signs? Generally speaking, if you aren't sure, add them to Category:Washington Metro, and I or someone else will figure out where they ought to go. SchuminWeb (talk) 02:12, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Done and Done. Woogers (talk) 02:44, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Damn, you got a whole bunch of cool destination signs that usually don't get used. Wish I'd strayed from the Red Line a little bit that weekend. Nonetheless, though, love the photos. I categorized them by location, but two some of them, where I just tagged with the line, I was unable to figure out what station I was looking at, and wasn't going to try and guess. For File:Huntington Dest.jpg, I know it's either Pentagon City or Crystal City, but I have no idea which because all the signage is illegible or blocked. For File:Arlington Cemetary Dest.jpg, there are numerous stations that it might be. SchuminWeb (talk) 03:34, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

copyvio-uploads by Matthewhuerta
Hi SchuminWeb,
in case you are Ben Schumin, I've corrected the copyviolating claims of the uploader of File:Bethesda Station.jpg, File:CAF 5000 Series Train at Pentagon Station.jpg, File:Mt Vernon Sq-7th St-Convention Center Station.jpg and File:Rosslyn Station.jpg. Please take a look whether it is acceptable for you now. --Túrelio (talk) 19:21, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- Much better. I'll upload the hi-res images and do any other category work for it. SchuminWeb (talk) 19:22, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, one more thing - the Rosslyn photo was already re-uploaded by me as File:Rosslyn station showing upper level platform pylons.jpg. SchuminWeb (talk) 19:23, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- I've tagged the new upload as dupe. Gone. --Túrelio (talk) 19:24, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- Is File:Reagan National Airport Station in 2009.jpg also from you? And how about the other uploads from this user? --Túrelio (talk) 19:27, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- The other uploads aren't mine. I can't determine the source of the other images, though at first I thought it possibly came from Oren's Transit Page.
- Also, I've re-uploaded the "Pentagon" image as File:WMATA 5000-Series train at Rosslyn station lower level.jpg, since the image is incorrectly identified. That was definitely taken at Rosslyn. Photography at Pentagon station is illegal due to its being within the Pentagon Reservation. SchuminWeb (talk) 19:34, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- I could locate the source of one more of his uploads, File:Franconia-springfield metro station.jpg, which was fully (C). --Túrelio (talk) 20:05, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- Somehow, I'm not surprised that another image turned up copyvio. I think for safekeeping, I'm going to remove the other Matthewhuerta images from en.wiki. SchuminWeb (talk) 20:07, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, might be safer. I'm still hoping he answers my question on his talkpage. --Túrelio (talk) 20:15, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Balconies
Hi Schumin, good work sorting through them. Just wondering if I got it right here? Isn't the portico the entire structure? BTW it would be nice to have a category for all the iconic views of both floors, such as File:SumGardenTour.JPG. Not sure on how to name it though, e.g. "General views of South Portico (White House)". -- User:Docu at 21:47, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
"Under the South Portico (White House)" for balcony type images and "South Portico (White House)" for general views might work. What do you think of that? I added a few more of the later here. -- User:Docu at 13:11, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- The way I've defined things, "South Portico" refers to the structure built in 1824 (minus the second floor balcony), and then "Truman Balcony" specifically regarding the 1948 balcony. I think we can probably refine things a bit further, and that photos not specifically of the balcony area but of the whole South Portico area should just go under the South Portico category and skip the Truman Balcony category altogether. Then images specifically of the first floor level porch should also go under the South Portico category.
- I agree that there should be a category for general southern views. However, I don't think we need to add an additional category. Category:White House South side seems to fit the bill for that purpose.
- We probably could stand to do some more reshuffling on these images, though, since there is a bit of overlap on what is what in the various categories. I would probably make it where images specifically of the South Portico go there, and then anything that is the general view should go in the White House South side category. I believe nothing we do will be perfect, but will certainly go a long way towards organizing things. What do you think? SchuminWeb (Talk) 02:47, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
- Given the amount of images of the White House, a lot of categorization about various rooms and locations can be done. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to create new categories. The descriptions and categories we use should relate to the terms generally used to describe the building (names and uses of rooms change though).
- Some time ago I added a few categories to Category:West Wing (it was already quite well organized, but probably got flooded with more images since it was created). Personally I found some interest in categorizing various images of similar perspectives in different years - even if recent years are somewhat "overrepresented" ;)
- It can help to create a category with a name and a short description for a type of images, eventually someone might suggest a better category name (or we find it in some of the image descriptions) and we can move it there. -- User:Docu at 08:40, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

You're now a filemover
Hi SchuminWeb/Archive 1, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
- Use the CommonsDelinker link in the Rename template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one.
- Please do not tag redirects as Speedy. Other projects, like InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references.
- For guideline when to rename a file, please see Commons:File renaming and Commons:File naming.

Forest & Kim Starr
Dear SchuminWeb, Forest & Kim Starr donated almost 60.000 photos to Wikimedia Commons. Some of these images might not be entirely in scope, but it's a waste of your time and a waste of my time to start nominating these images. Multichill (talk) 12:21, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
Bad file rename
Hi SchuminWeb. This is to remind you that you should follow the renaming guidelines when moving files. The following moves do not appear to be in accordance with the guidelines: [1][2] Reason: Commons:File renaming#What files should not be renamed?. If you disagree with the this note, disregard it and let me know your reason. Thanks, --ZooFari 18:12, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
This is really not like an advertisement in a newspaper, but rather is a wall mural (see Category:Murals in the United States), and therefore is not a case for speedy... AnonMoos (talk) 14:57, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
Misleading edit summary
Also, your edit summary on this file was unfortunately quite misleading. "Marking as possible copyvio" normally means adding no-source or similar, not a speedy delete tag! -- AnonMoos (talk) 15:12, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, due to the way Freedom of Panorama exists in the United States, photos of copyrighted materials, even if permanently installed (like a mural, an advertisement, or a statue) are still copyrighted and the photo is considered a derivative work of the original work. Thus the copyright holder of the original work (the statue, mural, advertisement, etc.) is the owner of the content in the photo, unless it's out of copyright for other reasons (like age). It's not like in other countries where there is complete freedom of panorama. Freedom of panorama applies only for buildings in the US. Thus images like that are indeed copyright violations, and thus are subject to speedy deletion on Commons. English Wikipedia can only use such things under fair use. SchuminWeb (Talk) 19:00, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
- However, it's still quite a different situation from a photograph of an advertisement in a newspaper or whatever, and it's unfortunate that the justification you gave didn't seem to display any knowledge of the difference -- and also that your edit summary was misleading... AnonMoos (talk) 19:29, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
- That was also a canned edit summary. It is autogenerated by the "Quick Delete" gadget, and so I have no control over the edit summary. It's also not worth stopping use of the tool in order to craft a custom edit summary. SchuminWeb (Talk) 21:25, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
- If the tool makes you add a deletion rationale which makes you seem like you don't understand the copyright issues involved, plus a misleading edit summary, then it's of extremely poor quality, and its use should be discontinued immediately. AnonMoos (talk) 21:41, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

- Copy and paste from your deletion request page
I have the feeling that this isn't the uploader's own work, aside from the annotations. If this were actually something that wasn't a company's actual form, there would be no reason to redact the operator's name (which matches the name of the uploader), and the name of the call center. Someone can make something free to replace this copyvio one, I'm sure. SchuminWeb (Talk) 18:56, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hey Ben: Actually, it is my own work. It's a very common performance report for an agent. The company and the location where it was generated no longer exists but I can assure you it's my document and I uploaded it, basically as an example on the topic of call centres, to show a typical example of how an agent's performance is quantified. --Achim Hering (talk) 21:49, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I notice you marked a transfered file as checked [3]. However the bot transfer resulted markup problems rendering the description text invisible and pretty much all the fields having wrong information. I fixed this one; I suggest keeping an eye out for this type of problem as one of the reasons bot moves need checking. Thanks for your attention and work. Re: File:I-95 Memorial @ Rest Area.jpg
While we're on the discussion of images, back in January, you incorrectly categorized and identified File:I-95 Memorial @ Rest Area.jpg as being at Maryland House, rather than the actual location, which is Chesapeake House. On my way down from a New York vacation in April 2011, I made a video proving that Chesapeake House was the location(I've already taken some pics of the one at Maryland House). Copyright status: File:LG GT540.png
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:LG GT540.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Washington Metro Station cats

Metro Center Station, Washington, D.C.
Hello SchuminWeb,
I am planning to make photo montages for all of the major transfer stations of the Washington Metro. These montages will each have a picture of the respective upper and lower platforms at each station. I am redistributing them as derivatives of the two images I choose for each, and I have already completed one, a montage of the Gallery Place Station. I am planning to do Metro Center next, and I am wondering if there are any pictures of Metro Center's lower level platform in the commons. I cannot seem to find any at all. All the Metro Center pictures are of the upper-level platform. Do you know of any? I could use some help.
Thanks!
