Hello, You put this file in category Category:paintings by Vincent van Gogh in the Van Gogh Museum. May I ask why. Did it change location? Regards, Vincent Steenberg (talk) 19:13, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- Per above I thought it is sthe same museum, was I wrong? --Schlurcher (talk) 19:54, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- yes, the w:Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the w:Van Gogh Museum are 2 seperate museums. So, if you don't mind I'll undi your changes. Regards, Vincent Steenberg (talk) 20:08, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- CommentThe trick is that many files on commons referred to the Van Gogh museum as the "Rijksmuseum Vincent van Gogh". This can be a technical way to refer to it, but the Van Gogh Museum isn't the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam (usually called simply Rijksmuseum), even though it is in Amsterdam. That can be a bit confusing when we're not warned about it, and this makes the renamings all the more useful !--Zolo (talk) 20:25, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- I restored all pictures and reverted all my edits concerning the category redirect. --Schlurcher (talk) 15:07, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the effort, but you restored too many files. When it says "Rijksmuseum Vincent van Gogh" is should be "Van Gogh Museum", if not, not. Regards, Vincent Steenberg (talk) 15:14, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks again for the hint and the fixes. --Schlurcher (talk) 15:50, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

thanks for bot changes and still other requests, when you have time
Many thanks, your changes work perfectly well. Three questions for when you have time :
- Unlike what I stated, there are cases where the Faille number is has only two figures. It didn't change anything for the bot, but tom me, it causes a slight classification problem : I would like the files in category:Works by Van Gogh by Faille number to be classified by their Faille number. It's almost what there is now, except that 75 comes after 210 and this sort of thing (because 7 is greater than 2 I suppose). Do you know if I can fix it (by modifiying {{Faille}} for example ?
- When you have time, could you replace replace in in the same way in template painting
- Gallery= {{de|Privatbesitz}}
- Gallery= {{en|private collection}}
- Gallery= private collection
- by
- Gallery= {{private collection}}
and
- Location={{de|Otterlo}}
- by
- Location={{Otterlo}}, {{Netherlands}}
- Last question : does you bot act forever ? I mean, if someone add a new {{de|öl auf Leinwand}}, will still replace it by {{technique|oil|canvas}} I would be useful, since it's likely that this sort of thing will happen again.--Zolo (talk) 18:09, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- Something like this [1] could do the trick. But I'm not good at Parser Functions. So a did only one try. I will implement the remaining changes.
- The bot does not run forever but he sistematically edits every image uploaded so far. But until now he is approximately at the end of 2008, so it will take some time to reach the new uploads. --Schlurcher (talk) 19:01, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, that's already quite a lot done. Actually, your try on the template worked, it was just 99 and not 999. Do you know how I add a second "if" to have the numbers 1 to 9 right ?--Zolo (talk) 19:44, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- You need to nest the if tags. My edit should work, but im not so sure as I have no idea how to check the result. --Schlurcher (talk) 13:13, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
- I tried to do something like that, it seems I didn't succeed. To check the results, you just have to wait some hours because it doesn't update immediately, and check it the items in the end of the cat seem logical. The last item in the JH list is 2025 now, while it used to be 999, that seems to work. Actually you were also right, in that there are number above 999 in the Faille list, I'll try to fix that.--Zolo (talk) 13:59, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

I add it here because it is always the same kind of thing, but don't hesitate to move it to the bot request page if you don't want to do it :
You said you wold replace |Gallery= {{de|Privatbesitz}} by |Gallery= {{private collection}} For files in subacategories of Vincent van Gogh, is it possible to add in the same time category:paintings by Vincent van Gogh in private collections.
It would also be useful to do exactly the same thing with by replacing
:|Location={{de|Amsterdam}}
:|Gallery=<inline> {{de|Rijksmuseum Vincent van Gogh}}
by
:|Location={{Amsterdam}}
:|Gallery= {{Van Gogh Museum}}
and add in the same time Category:paintings by Vincent van Gogh in the Van Gogh Museum
(for articles that are in subcategories of category:Vincent van Gogh.
Thanks a lot if you do it (or for the rest if you don't do it)--Zolo (talk) 20:22, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
- Jep, no problem just post your suggestions here. Everything above is running, but Commons is today rather slow so I will continue tomorrow. --Schlurcher (talk) 17:23, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- Done --Schlurcher (talk) 19:06, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thanky you very much, There would be many more internationalisation things to do, if you think you can do them all in a batch, I can try to prepare a list ! For Van Gogh, I also realised, that I should have asked you to put "ID={{Van Gogh catalogues|F=XXX|JH=YYYY}}" rather than "ID={{Faille|XXX}}, {{Hulsker|YYYY}}". If you have occasion to repair my mistake, that would be appreciated as well, but nothing urgent.--Zolo (talk) 21:05, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, please prepare a list. If it is complete please post it here and I can run them all in one batch. --Schlurcher (talk) 14:56, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, since there may be a some changes ahead in a few templates, I won't post it right now. This also gives me a few days to think about a more exhaustive list!--Zolo (talk) 12:29, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- It's been more than a few days, I didn't get much news, sorry. There would be quite a lot to do but it seems better to wait until{{tl:painting}} has changed to {{tl:artwork information}}, that's currently underway.--Zolo (talk) 07:22, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

So, I could still wait a long time, before I can come up with a exhaustive list. Since it is already quite long, I show it to you, if you are still willing to do the job. I think Things should be do in the order indicated (roughly equialent to priority order + some errors may occcur if they are done in a different order. Of course, if you don't want to do it, or not all of it, you can transfer it to the bot request page.--Zolo (talk) 13:34, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Requests
Unless otherwise noted, all requests concern all files in which {{Painting}} is transcluded.

- Move all {{painting-provenanceorcl|blabla}} from the "notes" field to the "credit line" field.

- Change text:

- Replace:{{invno|blabla}} by blabla (blabla can be empty) (however, don't replace {{invno XX|tot}} eg {{invno MNAC|XX}}: we still have to decide what to do with these cases
- What should be done if a link in the second paramter is given. Should it be keept or should it also be replaced? --Schlurcher (talk) 13:37, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, I did not mention that. From what I can see, the link parameter is very seldom used in the raw templates (it's almost always used in subtemplates like such as Invno MNAC that should not be deleted). When there links inside a basic invno template, the best thing to do would be to put the file in a temporary category:invno to check (no need to really create the category, we can check what files are in it even if it is red). If it is too long to teach the bot how to do that, you can delete the link, it is no big problem.--Zolo (talk) 13:54, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
- Done, tured out, that there was no case in with the second parameter was used in the file namespace. --Schlurcher (talk) 18:33, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

- Move to the "references" field. In each case, blabla is one or several parameters but there should be some blabla (ie at least one non-empty parameter):
- {{Van Gogh catalogues|blabla}}
- {{Gauguin catalogues|blabla}}
- {{Wildenstein Monet|blabla}}
- {{catalogue|blabla}}
- Move to the "references" field. In each case, blabla is one or several parameters but there should be some blabla (ie at least one non-empty parameter):
- Not done -- rather difficult
- Would it be possible then to replace |ID = {{Van Gogh catalogues|F=XX|JH=ZZ}} |Source by |references = Catalogues raisonnés:
- Not done -- rather difficult
- FXX: Faille, Jacob Baart de la (1970) [1928] The Works of Vincent van Gogh. His Paintings and Drawings, Amsterdam: J.M. Meulenhoff, no. XX .
- JHZZ : Jan Hulsker (1980), The Complete Van Gogh, Oxford: Phaidon, no. ZZ.
|Source (ID is now called "accession number" so catalogue numbers really look out of place there and there would be approximately 1000 files to edit.
- Done, half manually. --Schlurcher (talk) 22:19, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

- Both mean the same thing but sometimes we have "between 1700 and 1700" while the author is dead in 1740, this looks a bit silly. But actually, there are not so many cases of it, I think I have manually corrected most of them.--Zolo (talk) 11:11, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Please unarchive this section Commons:Bots/Work_requests/Archive_4#list_of_works. Simply because you don't like some of the "[requests for] work to be done by a bot" and "[..] ideas for bots.", you shouldn't archive them. Docu at 18:56, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
- Why? The posting was neigher a request for work nor an idear for a bot it was a discussion if it would be good to have such a feature. Bot work requests is imho not the right place. Try the village dump. --Schlurcher (talk) 09:36, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi Schlurcher. To apply the usual fixes, would you run your bot through Category:Pictures of the day (2011)? Many of the headers aren't even converted. -- Docu at 08:43, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
