Flight 1549 map
[edit]- Just wanted to make sure you saw my comments at File talk:US Airways Flight 1549.png... ;-) Carl Lindberg (talk) 21:44, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. I answered at the map's discussion. --S. Bollmann (talk) 22:38, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hello. Perhaps you could edit the map to show where New Jersey is. New Jersey is the entire land mass to the west (left) of the Hudson River where the plane crashed. Thank you. --Zimbabweed (talk) 22:53, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, done. --S. Bollmann (talk) 00:36, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. Some US and many international readers might not have known exactly where the state boundaries were. --Zimbabweed (talk) 02:37, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Deutscher Orden
[edit]Schöne Karten hast du da geliefert, S. Bollmann.

Hi Fernan, I will do this during the next weeks. S.Bollmann (not logged in)--77.189.248.23 08:50, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Hello, I thought you were inactive both at wikipedia and commons. Thanks a lot, these maps are fundamental in order to understand the war. Your contribution is invaluable. Regards.--Fernan (talk) 21:57, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
PS: If there are a problem with the Spanish toponyms, I will tell you. Thank you.
Svg perhaps?
[edit]Hello. I noticed that you created this map, and this one too perhaps you have *.svg file of it, as I want to make it in different languages as well. M.K. (talk) 16:03, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, I don't have any *.svg files of this maps. I create my maps in Photoshop. If you want a version in a special language, please post here a full transcript of the map text and very gladly I build the maps in your desired language. (Like the example above in Spanish.) -- S. Bollmann (talk) 17:39, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
- At the beginning I would love to see that map in English language. Would you have any problem creating one? M.K. (talk) 19:25, 20 January 2010 (UTC)P.S. Are you drawing images on *.PSD format?
- Ok, now I have made English versions of both maps. And yes, I use *.psd files, but they are not for publishing. -- S. Bollmann (talk) 13:26, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Very nice work! BTW, could you rename Vilna to Vilnius and add Kaunas to map Part 2 1709–1721, as done in Part 1? Thanks, M.K. (talk) 13:14, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, done. -- S. Bollmann (talk) 23:59, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

English map: Monastic state of the Teutonic Order
[edit]Hi, could you please translate this File:Deutscher Orden 1410.png into English? It's a great map! Renata3 (talk) 01:17, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, I will do this in the course of June. --S. Bollmann (talk) 00:42, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hello Renata3, I have finished the requested maps in their first versions.
- Please let me know, if you have any suggestions or corrections of my translation. --S. Bollmann (talk) 00:59, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Wow! Thank you very much - they will be very useful. Some comments for 1260:
- Title -> The state of the Teutonic Order in 1260
- Teutonic Order till -> Teutonic territory in
- Masowia -> Masovia
- Russian Principalities -> Ruthenian Principalities
- Naming with historic place names -> Historical geographic names presented first
- (actual place names in parenthesis) -> (modern geographic names in parenthesis)
- Clerical area in Livonia and town march of Riga -> Bishoprics and city of Riga in Livonia (maybe also move up the description before "Polish principalities" so not to give illusion that it was one of the Polish places)
- Vistula -> should somehow bring "Wisla" closer to "Vistula" to show that it is an alternative name (as done with other rivers)
- Neman river should lose "river" (no other river has it)
- Location of Battle of Saule -> while not known exactly, it is usually placed near Siauliai in Lithuania which is south and west from where you have it. See this for example: File:Medieval Livonia 1260.svg
I will look at the other two maps tomorrow (possibly). I have to run now. BTW, maybe you could upload blank maps (so that other languages can translate them how they wish -- adding text to a picture is not that hard -- people would not need to bug you every time). Renata3 (talk) 01:55, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
- All done - except the battle of Saule, because the layers of political areas and battle signs ar merged together in the map file and I cannot move the battle signs anymore without drawing it new and etch the old. But I think, it's not so tragically, because the battle is located somewhere in an area between present Šiauliai and present Vecsaule near Bauska. So I think, the battle sign is approximately in the middle between this two locations and I hope everybody can live with the actual placing.
- Most of your improvements affects the other maps too, I tried to correct all three maps. --S. Bollmann (talk) 17:20, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
- It's ok regarding the battle. Its location is not known either way :) Renata3 (talk) 01:18, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- Excellent job. I applaud you for using 2 names in the cases where there are several historical names to chose from. Few comments on possible fixes: 1) w:Insterburg - en wiki renders the alt name as Chernyakhovsk (with Ch, not T). At that point it was not under Russian control, so a Polish name should be used either instead or in addition (Wystruć). 2) w:Hrodna - consider adding Lithuanian (Gardinas) and Polish (Grodno) names 3) Vilnius - consider adding Polish Wilno 4) w:Pregola on en wiki uses the spelling Pregolya. All of those are however minor, and if you chose not to heed them up, it's fine (and if you do, you may also want to add alt Polish-Lithuanian names to a few other places like Neman); I fully understand that too many names will clutter the map so it's your call. Anyway - good job, and if you ever need to call on a Polish editor with some map questions, I am happy to help. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 18:46, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- Chernyakhovsk and Pregolya done. Concerning Polish or Lithuanian names... what about a Polish and a Lithuanian version of the three maps? I need only the translated map texts. --S. Bollmann (talk) 00:39, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- Replies to Piotrus comments: 1) Parenthetical name is modern (i.e. today's name), which is appropriately in Russian. 2&3) Polish names for Vilnius or Hrodna are inappropriate for periods before 1500s. Renata3 (talk) 01:18, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- Re: 2&3) - you are probably right, but are Lithuanian better? Should we be using Ruthenian per w:Grand_Duchy_of_Lithuania#Chancellery_languages?? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 16:36, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for a quick response! I have been overwhelmed with real life stuff, so only now I have few moments to look into the other to maps.
Comments on 1410 map:
- "13. Jh." box for Grand Duchy of Lithuania -> 1230s
- Castle of the Teutonic Order (selection) -> Castle of the Teutonic Order (consistent with other maps)
- Domicile of... -> Seat of...
- ...a Country Master -> ...the Land Master
- Personal union Poland-Lithuania since 1386 -> Personal union of Poland-Lithuania since 1386
- Pskow -> Pskov
- Ruth. Princ. -> I know I made the comment on 1260 map, but it was very appropriate there. But now, in 1410, I think most appropriate name for that location would be en:Pskov Republic or even en:Grand Duchy of Moskow
- Samogitia 1388-1410 -> 1398-1411 (from en:Treaty of Salynas to en:Peace of Thorn (1411). See also en:Samogitian uprisings)
Comments on 1466 map:
- Some of the same comments as above
- Would strongly suggest making a separate blue-colored box for Prince Bishopric of Warmia in the legend as it's impossible (without prior knowledge) to figure out what the acronym stands for
- That's it! :)
Again, thank you very much. Your work is much appreciated. Renata3 (talk) 01:18, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
BTW, for the first map, could you add blueish box in the legend to indicate that it represents Prussian tribes not yet conquered by the Knights? (it took me that long to figure out why the color was different - and I am familiar with the topic!) Renata3 (talk) 01:40, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, but some Questions:
- This issue:
- Castle of the Teutonic Order (selection) -> Castle of the Teutonic Order (consistent with other maps)
- Selection means, the map is showing only a small part of the complete amount of the castles of the Order. To show all castles would dapple the map with a bulk of castle symbols. The term "consistent with other maps" means something other than selection. Maybe "extract" is a better word instead of "selection"?
- This issue:
- ...a Country Master -> ...the Land Master
- In en:Teutonic_Knights#Landmeister is "Landmeister" translated with "Country Master". Is this incorrect or a descriptive translation only? But "Land Master" is not used in the article.
- And last question:
- In German the abbreviations for titels like Bistum = Bm. (Bishopric)) or Erzbistum = Ebm. (Archbishopric) and so on are very common in historical maps and specialist literature. How is it in English literature? In German a Fbm. for Fürstbistum (Prince-Bishopric) is well-understood by all readers. Are there similar abbreviations in English and how is the correct abbreviation for Prince-Bishopric? Pr.-Bsp. is advised by me.
- A description in the legend would be an exception, because in all maps no state is described by his color in the legend. Legend colors are for territories and territory wins and losses only. But I can explain the acronym in the legend like "Pr.-Bsp. = Prince-Bishopric". --S. Bollmann (talk) 13:36, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- Addendum:
- Ruth. Princ. -> I know I made the comment on 1260 map, but it was very appropriate there. But now, in 1410, I think most appropriate name for that location would be en:Pskov Republic or even en:Grand Duchy of Moskow
- The green territory not only shows the Pskov Republic but also parts of the Novgorod Republic. --S. Bollmann (talk) 17:07, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- 1) Re castles. Well, the other two maps showed the same castles and only had description "Castle of the Teutonic Order". It's kinda implied that not all castles or towns or rivers are shown - only the major ones. So I think leaving simply "Castle of the Teutonic Order" is fine. If you would still like to explicitly indicate that it shows only some castles, proper English wording would be "Selected castles of the Teutonic Order" or "Major castles of the Teutonic Order"
- 2) "Land master" is a better translation. Google test: "country master" + teutonic gives 3 results while "land master" + teutonic gives 62 results. In this case English Wikipedia proves to be unreliable ;)
- 3) I have no idea how to abbreviate Prince-Bishopric or even if there is any kind of convention on that matter. As a general rule, abbreviations should be avoided whenever possible as people new to the topic will be confused. Thus my suggestion would be putting a blue box with full description in the legend (like for example, you have for Livonian bishoprics). If that is not possible, then another idea is putting something like "PBW" on the map and describing it in full in the legend. Your idea of explaining the acronym in legend could also work.
- 4) Ruth Princ. Yeah, I later realized that you also have a corner of Novgorod in the map. I dunno how to name that in the limited space that you have. But Ruthenian Principalities are no longer applicable. Maybe leave blank? It's better to have nothing than to mislead. Or maybe put back "Russian Principalities" - within couple of decades all that territory with be dependent on Grand Duchy of Russia.
- Thanks for taking such care! :) Renata3 (talk) 17:49, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, all done. I hope, it's fine now. :-) --S. Bollmann (talk) 20:21, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- Yup, all good now. Thank you again!
- While on the topic of Teutonic Knights, would you be interested in making a map for en:Battle of Grunwald? I recently re-wrote the whole thing in preparing for the 600th anniversary this July. I think that a map of Polish-Lithuanian and Teutonic troop movements during the war (from invasion to Prussia, to Grunwald, to siege of Marienburg) would be very helpful. I have some maps that could be used. I could possibly do it myself, but my skills are very limited and it's important to get rivers and lakes correctly. I will owe you some serious barnstars if you take this. If you are interested, please email me (my username + gmail.com) so I could forward you the maps (they are not on the internet). Map for Grunwald campaign
[edit]Wow, awesome! It's so much better than I expected! I do have a couple minor nitpicks, mostly translation stuff.
- Is there any way that you could make rivers stand out more? The whole Polish-Lithuanian turn-back at Kauernik was determined by a river.
- Could you change the color for Polish-Lithuanian army (to say, green)? Because on Kingdom of Poland territory it's a yellow line on yellowish background -- does not stand out in thumbnail.
- Is there any differences between towns/castles marked with white dots vs those marked with black dos? I cannot figure that out... (like what's the difference between Balga and Konigsberg)
- The way to Grunwald in 1410 and First Peace of Thorn 1411 -> I would simplify it to "Grunwald Campaign of 1410" as the peace treaty was not signed right after the campaign, there was some more fighting after Marienburg (maybe create a special sign for Thorn to indicate peace treaty -- like the battlefield is marked by two swords)
- Castles of the Order, which not capitulated.... -> that did not capitulate
- The text boxes (mind the "s" for arrive):
- A: The main force... (un-capitalize)
- C: A detached force is send... -> sent
- D&E: The army (...) assemble -> assembles
- H: Polish armies arrives the south bank of the Vistula and crosses the river -> Polish armies arrive to the southern bank of the Vistula and cross the river
- J: The Order's troops arrives Kauernick -> arrive to
- P&Q&R: arrives -> arrives to
- T: arrives Marienburg, he organizes -> arrive to Marienburg to organize
- V: siege of Marienburg until September 19, when the Siege of Marienburg was lifted -> Siege of Marienburg, that was lifted on September 19
Thanks again! Renata3 (talk) 14:30, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, I hope, I have all well done in the new version. [[1]] Oh, and thanks vor the barnstars. :-) --S. Bollmann (talk) 19:51, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- Great! Just for text boxes P, Q & R it should be "army arrives to...". Also, I just noticed that you used modern coat or arms for Lithuania. That particular image was created in 1991 by en:Arvydas Každailis, so I would think it is not very appropriate for 1410. Could you borrow the arms from say File:Alex K Rzech Pospolita1.svg (looks more medieval)? If not, it's fine as is. Than you again. Renata3 (talk) 20:48, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- A new version with the latest corrections is now available: "arrives" and a more mediaeval coat of arms of Lithuania. --S. Bollmann (talk) 23:52, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Samogitian border
[edit]Hey, I am sure you are sick and tired of me now. I just looked at File:Teutonic Order 1410.png and File:Teutonic Order 1466.png and noticed something weird -- the Samogitian territory does not reach the Baltic Sea. Could you fix it? Lithuania had access to the sea between en:Palanga and en:Šventoji, Lithuania -- measly 15km, but still a beach :) It is kinda important as the Teutonic order was not connected with Livonian Order. Thanks, Renata3 (talk) 03:46, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
- I'm in touch with some experts of the history of the Teutonic order at German wikipedia. It seems indeed, the border's course depends on time and has to change possibly on my maps. The land bridge between Prussia ans Livonia was not existing all the time. At second issue the Samogitian area, claimed by the Order, seems to be too big. I ask an German expert about more accurate maps and I hope, I will be able to improve my maps in both objects soon. --S. Bollmann (talk) 16:27, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- I noticed the seashore when I was working on en:Treaty of Melno (1422). It specifically says that Lithuania had access between Palanga and Šventoji. Before that date -- no one really knows. Regarding the chunk of Samogitia, the en:Treaty of Dubysa (1382) drew the border along the en:Dubysa River, the en:Treaty of Königsberg (1384) drew it along the en:Nevėžis River. It seems that your map is following the en:Šventoji River. There were other, subsequent treaties -- I am not sure if the border was moved again (I wrote all those articles, but I did not see that being mentioned anywhere). Renata3 (talk) 23:42, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- Short update: The next versions of thix maps will come not before November. Unfortunately I have no free time actual. --S. Bollmann (talk) 22:51, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Tutorial request
[edit]Dear Mr. Bollmann, I currently seek a source for historical maps I could adopt to my needs (genealogical research of the korczak-clan: www.korczak-clan.de) and would highly appreciate if you could give me a hint how to create maps like yours. Regards Hubert

KARTE "SKANDINAVISCHE ORTSNAMEN IN ENGLAND"

Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you.

:) --S. Bollmann (talk) 17:32, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Hi I found some small errors in this file. In 1410 there was no Włocławek Reservoir, Kaliningrader Seeschifffahrtskanal, Weichseldurchstich and Wisła Śmiała. If you need any help with finding these on a map let me know. Sidevar (talk) 09:15, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, you are absolutely right. :) The map shows the courses of rivers and coast lines of today, not in fifteenth century. But this is common for most modern maps with historical topics. Mostly because of we do not know the exact courses of rivers and coastal lines in past times. For example the Hel peninsula was in Middle Age (and till eighteenth century) a chain of some small islands, the delta distributary of the river Vistula have had an different course and the river itself was not regulated and had a lot of meanders we don't know, maybe the Łebsko Lake was a bay open to the Baltic Sea? We don't know. So it's for most purposes an arrangement, to work with modern geography. --S. Bollmann (talk) 21:58, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
Maps of the Teutonic Order state
[edit]Dear S. Bollmann, Your maps of the Ordenstaat are really fantastic. I was wondering whether you could tell me whether you sourced them from somewhere, or made them yourself, and if so - how. I would be interested in reproducing them in something I am working on if it were possible.

- Hi Varkenslacht. The sources for the maps are numerated under the maps. Mostly German Books about the State of the Teutonic Order. The maps are made with GMT mapping tools (explanations are given in wikipedia) and the coloration is done with Adobe Photoshop. --S. Bollmann (talk) 20:45, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

Hallo S. Bollmann,
- Also mal ernsthaft. --S. Welcome, Dear Filemover!
[edit]
Hi S. Bollmann, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
- Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
- Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
- Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Multilingual SVG instead of 1 PNG per language
--S. Bollmann (talk) 20:50, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

Important message for file movers
[edit]A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

- Nolispanmo: what other permission is needed here? It indicates author (who is the user) and has all the appropriate copyright and other tags? Is this a mistaken tag by you? Renata3 (talk) 15:53, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hey Renata3. Photographer Ralf Stummeyer <> Uploader Stefan Bollmann --Nolispanmo 14:45, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
- Lol. Is this a bad joke? Who the f*ck is this Ralf Stummeyer and why is he registered as the author of my photos? That doesn't make any sense from start to finish! Maybe some vandal wrote another author in there? What does the version history of the deleted picture pages say? I'm feeling very pissed off here right now. With the rest of the series of pictures from the performance, everything seems to be correct, why should these three pictures of all things be photographed with the same camera, in the same style, post-edited with the same editing program on the same computer (the originals are on my hard drive) suddenly by come from who else? Someone who briefly stole my camera and later my computer in order to first take pictures and then edit them? This is just complete nonsense. --S. Bollmann (talk) 16:43, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
Damit erledigt. @S. Bollmann everthing fine: the exif data contains the name of the rental company in the photographer section. Greetings --Nolispanmo 15:22, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Konzertkategorien mit Leerzeichen
[edit]Hallo Stefan,
- S. Bollmann (talk) 16:30, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, danke für deine Antwort. Ein Beispiel wäre die Category:Bullet for My Valentine - Full Force 2022. Da hast du das Template mit {{Concert Category|Bullet for My Valentine|Full Force Festival 2022| Full Force Festival 2022}} eingebunden.
- Soweit meine Gedanken dazu. :-) S. Bollmann (talk) 17:49, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi,

LG Fraoch (talk) 18:01, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
Running Order 26.05.2023:
- 15:00 - 15:50 Molllust
- 16:20 - 17:10 Circus of Fools
- 17:30 - 18:20 Groza
- 18:40 - 19:40 Wolfskull
- 20:00 - 21:00 Ophis
- 21:20 - 22:20 The Night Eternal
- 22:50 - 23:50 Schammasch
S. Bollmann (talk) 18:33, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
S. Bollmann (talk) 18:42, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
- Ach ja, da war ja was. Fraoch (talk) 21:29, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
