User talk:Rotemliss
Welcome!
Hello, Rotemliss, and welcome to Wikimedia Commons. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- First steps
- Babel guide - Commons is truly international, here's how to handle some multilingual issues
- Commons FAQ - has some answers to common Commons questions
- The Community Portal - has plenty more helpful links
- A Gallery of your images - please correct any that are untagged or orphans (put them in a category)
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Commoner! If you haven't already done so, you might also want to open an account on a Wikipedia in your preferred language, or one of the other Wikimedia projects. By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, drop a note on the village pump, the Help desk, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! – rotemliss – Talk 17:38, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi Rotemliss! You probably won't read this for a couple of days, but there's no rush. I was just wondering if you are interested in becoming an administrator here.
he.wp is in the top 20 Wikipedias and yet we have very few Hebrew users here. A Hebrew-speaking admin can act as a bridge between the Commons community and the he.wp community and encourage users there to use the Commons, as well as help explain the rules to them. Another important problem is that of translation, especially since Hebrew is a RTL script and non-latin (quite scary to people who only speak English ;)). Most admins don't do very much translation, but they can also identify people in their local projects who are happy to help. The more of the interface and help files that we have translated, the more comfortable Hebrew speakers will feel when using the Commons.
Despite all that I've said, being an admin here is quite a laid-back affair. Many admins are quite inactive here -- it's totally up to you how much you do (but obviously, we consider the more, the better!). Even if you intend to do very little, having a Hebrew admin as a point of contact for non-Hebrew speaking admins is extremely useful.
So... what do you think? I would be very happy to nominate you, or if you like, you can self-nominate. The guidelines are at Commons:Administrators. Let me know what you think.

(PS - I am asking Gilgamesh as well, but don't feel that if they nominate, you don't have to -- it's certainly much better to have two than one!)
Image deletion warning | Image:Newprofile.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |
