Hello, you created this article here. Please note that all other satellite images of countries are in categories, so could you please move all of the images on this page back into Category:Satellite pictures of Chile for consistency? Thank you very much. howcheng {chat} 20:21, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- I only did this because there were only two pictures in this category and quite a lot in the article....but of course you're right. When I'll find the time, I'll move them. Prissantenbär 05:11, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Volcan Osorno etc.
[edit]It does make sens to destroy the work of other persons, when you don't understand what they are doing.
- Category:Volcanos of Chile is currently a redirection.
- Places are usually categorized in more precise locations than countries.
- As its title says, Category:Regions of Chile are for regions. Maps will be removed.

- I'm sorry, I didn't want to destroy anyone's work. But I still think that it doesn't make to much sense to establish four categories just for one picture. Just go ahead when you want to organize the "region of chile". I appreciate this. Prissantenbär 05:21, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- Commons is a special wiki project. Our business is to provide media files to other wiki projects in order to illustrate articles. We need categories to bring together media files regarding a specific subject, and to browse through the Commons pages.
- There is near always one media file in a category when I create it. The only difficulties are:
- Determine the appropriate subject for the category
- Find its well spelled title, according to Commons rules
- As an example, I just created categories for this only image :
- Category:Sound recording; I added later Category:Music recording as a subcategory.
- Category:Pablo Neruda; first miracle: a second picture was waiting for the category.
- Category:Diplomats of Chile
- Category:Poets from Chile
- Category:Writers from Chile; second miracle: 2 articles and a picture were waiting for the category.
- Total: 5 new categories to classify one picture.
- Regarding regions of Chile, look at this talk in Commons:Village pump#Naming the country subdivisions in Commons. Your opinion will be welcomed. --Juiced lemon 10:44, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Why did you uncategorize that image? How do you think will people find it? --Angus 19:01, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, I thought it would be useful to replace the category by an article Pablo Neruda, since there was only one picture in the category. Prissantenbär 20:29, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
POTY 2006 competition
[edit]The arrangements for the Commons Picture of the Year 2006 competition are almost complete, and voting will take place between 1st and 28th Feb. All the featured pictures promoted last year are automatically nominated. As the creator of one or more images nominated for the election we invite you to participate in the event. Hello Prissantenbär!
Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.
To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.
You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!
Thank you. Mark Wolf (talk) 11:43, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:05, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. San Pedro de Atacama has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

I have used some of your photos
[edit]Hello Prissantenbär!
I have used a pair of photos of Chaetophractus villosus in my free software educational proyect "Animalandia" (http://animalandia.educa.madrid.org)
You can see directly in the follow link and clic over "Siguiente" ("Next") several times:
http://animalandia.educa.madrid.org/imagen.php?id=52191
If you wish (and I hope yes), you can send me (via fernando.lison@educa.madrid.org) some letters or/and a photo for your "contributor profile" in Animalandia:
http://animalandia.educa.madrid.org/autor.php?nombre=Prissantenb%E4r
I want show to my students (and so everybody) that Animalandia is make for "real person", and I can tell them about "generosity", "share" and other similar words that we use very few at this time...
This is my "contributor profile" and others, for example:
http://animalandia.educa.madrid.org/autor.php?nombre=Fernando%20Lis%F3n%20Mart%EDn
http://animalandia.educa.madrid.org/autor.php?nombre=Carmen%20Jim%E9nez

http://animalandia.educa.madrid.org/autor.php?nombre=Steve%20Garvie%20%28Rainbirder%29
In the future, I use more of your photos, I sure!
