Binary image

Hi @OmegaFallon:

Thanks for uploading File:50x50x1b.svg. Is there much point converting the bitmap into vector as the image data is purely raster? The file size has also increased over 600 times from 427 bytes to 296 KB.

From what I've found the image scales much better with SVG. With raster images Wiki sites use some non-nearest-neighbor scaling for images which just makes it into a blurry mess, but SVG pixel art keeps the sharp edges while scaling to any size without loss. As far as the size of the image goes, I'll admit there's likely a much better way of actually coding the thing, since all I did was put it through a website. It might be drawing individual squares for every single white pixel, which is pretty bad. Unfortunately I don't have access to sophisticated SVG editing. OmegaFallon (talk) 13:09, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

I understand your reasoning. One workaround I've seen is to rescale the image using nearest-neighbour interpolation so each pixel becomes a block of, say, 8×8 pixels, but it's no longer proper pixel art.
I was also going to write a program to generate an SVG party but @TilmannR: beat me to it. Well done to them!

@OmegaFallon I think blurry images are not a huge problem and not a reason to increase filesize and processor load a huge amount, but that does not make importance because nearest neighbor template is already created. That's going to make it with too smaller size and processor load, so there's no need anymore for the SVG format. I think you will not object to that. RuzDD (talk) 04:28, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

Ah, sorry. Yeah to be honest the whole thing kind of got out of control. I was intending on uploading all of the user's photos after stumbling on them but honestly there's just so many of them and I really underestimated the structural work of organizing them by hand that I have to do, and overall it's just not worth it. Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I'm very tired and currently dealing with a speedydelete troll. I don't mind if Kasadera's images get axed, if need be. Cheers.
