Hello, Okras!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Thanks for uploading File:Street Magic 2011.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Street Magic 2011.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

[edit]

Gens.

Okras (talk) 10:47, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!

[edit]
2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Photo challenge - December

[edit]

Hello Okras,
I just saw that you did the last translations on the Commons:Photo challenge main page and wanted to ask you if you'd like to help translating the challenge titles and descriptions themselves? Normally one or two sentences for each of the two challenges per month and a set of general rules that doesn't change - this time one of the descriptions is quite a bit longer, which I think is idea... If you are interested, just say so and I can give you the links. ;->
Best wishes, --Anna reg (talk) 14:17, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Well as promised, here are the links for the challenges for December (just add "ru=your translation" in alphabetical order):

the part of the rules that doesn't change from month to month is in a separate template you can find under Template:Photo challenge rules
and finally there's the watchlist-message that appears on top of the watchlist - we prepare it in HelenOnline's Sandbox
Thanks a lot for helping! --Anna reg (talk) 18:14, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • 1) I didn't clearly understand about titles and links (about "ru="). Could you give me example of use, if tranlation of Bad weather will be Непогода and for Household items in use is Использование домашних предметов (not exact translation, means "Using of household items", but sounds better).
  • 2) Can I modify December section of User:HelenOnline/sandbox/Photo challenge template right now? Okras (talk) 21:11, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you can modify all pages I linked - Helen created that page to give us a space to prepare those messages, she's okay with other users editing there. And if you look at the pages, you'll see that the LangSwitch-Template has the wikipedia-shortcuts used for languages - you'll find the original English translation after the two letters "en=" - and all translations are ordered alphabetically ( will give you Translation.
If you want to check the output of that template in another language you have to chose that language by clicking on the little A next to your user name in the upper right corner.
Does that help? Anna reg (talk) 21:27, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Was my explanation to complicated? Did you have a look at the pages? I think most of it should be clear if you see the text in the different languages - the only thing making it a bit complicated is the Template:Photo challenge rules... thanks for translating the watchlist message and don't feel pressured to do the rest! Best wishes, Anna reg (talk) 15:02, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No, that's ok. Looks like I got it. I've translated both templates Template:Photo challenge rules and Template:Photo challenge rules restricted, and pages Commons:Photo challenge/2014 - December - Bad weather and Commons:Photo challenge/2014 - December - Household items in use. Did I miss something? Okras (talk) 08:49, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You found everything - thanks a lot! --Anna reg (talk) 11:51, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Please, remind me about next translations in future. Okras (talk) 14:56, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay - the next one will probably be during the Christmas holidays or we manage a bit before in order to give everybody the chance to find the time... --Anna reg (talk) 15:16, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Okras, we decided to try to enter new images at the top of the gallery this month and I forgot to change the third sentence in the checklist - I've done so now, can you please change that in Russian, too? Thanks a lot for your help, --Anna reg (talk) 22:43, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Photo challenge translation

[edit]

Hello Okras,
the January themes seem to be decided... we only have one new theme - Outlier, as Bad weather & Household items in use will be continued during January.
And perhaps you can check the watchlist message for January that will be prepared in Helen's sandbox.
Best wishes and a happy new year, --Anna reg (talk) 19:49, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ready. Okras (talk) 09:25, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Photo challenge - February translations

[edit]

Hello Okras,
I just prepared the two February theme pages

and - as February has already begun and the pages are therefore already linked from the Photo challenge-main page, I put <!-- --> around every untranslated language - so if you find the time to do the translation, please don't forget to remove it!
The watchlist messages are once again in preparation in Helen's sandbox, but so far I have mainly actualized the links...
Best wishes, Anna reg (talk) 12:05, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Okras! Anna reg (talk) 15:54, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Photo challenge translations - March

[edit]

Hello Okras,
the photo challenge translations for March are ready! Here are the links:

Best wishes, Anna reg (talk) 12:35, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Okras (talk) 18:33, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please can you help translate the restriction for the black & white challenge: "The photos must be taken in March 2015 and a maximum of three entries can be submitted per photographer.". Sorry for the late change. Thanks. -- Colin (talk) 10:19, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have also amended the description to be clearer: "black & white photography (not a colour photo of a black & white subject)". -- Colin (talk) 10:24, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have clarified (with examples) that Commons:Photo challenge/2015 - March - Steps, Stairs and Staircases includes ladders and step stools. -- Colin (talk) 10:28, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I've fixed B&W translation. And Steps, Stairs and Staircases looks like it doesn't need any modifications. Okras (talk) 15:58, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

April photo challenges ready for translation

[edit]

Hello Okras,
the April challenges are hopefully ready for translation! Here are the links:

I'm preparing the new watchlist message in HelenOnline's sandbox - as always... Thanks for your help, Anna reg (talk) 07:48, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I probably made a mistake when preparing the page today - use the 'time to vote for', I'll correct the English now. Thanks for pointing the mistake out - and for your promt translation! Best wishes, Anna reg (talk) 08:47, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Photo challenge translation - May

[edit]

Hello Okras,
the challenge pages for May are ready for translation:

FRacco created some translation templates for the photo challenge and formulated a Translation Plan - perhaps you could have a look (e.g. the new watchlist message is using one - the translated theme names have to be added to Template:Photo challenge theme/i18n/Mother Nature Strikes Back and Template:Photo challenge theme/i18n/Panoramas).
Best wishes and thanks for your help!
--Anna reg (talk) 19:24, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ready. Okras (talk) 18:48, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Photo challenge translation - June

[edit]

Hello Okras,
we are really late this month (I didn't have much time), but the challenge pages for June are:

The new templates are therefore and . Oh, and the challenges are both restricted to June and 4 pictures per user - the sentence is added after the Photo challenge rules-template.
Best wishes and once again thanks for helping!
--Anna reg (talk) 23:06, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Photo challenge translations - July

[edit]

Hello Okras,
the pages for July are finally, finally ready for translation:

The title translations are therefore and .
I removed the time restriction from last months restriction (time and pictures per user) - please check that I didn't delete anything wrong...
Best wishes and once again thanks for helping!

Commons:Photo challenge translations - September

[edit]

Hello Okras,
I didn't manage to do any notifications for August (I hardly participated in the challenge preparation), but I have some news for September:
The new challenges are

The title translations can be found under , and .
Oh, and we have a time restriction for September for Fountains and wells - please check the text!
Best wishes, --Anna reg (talk) 00:42, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As Mykola Swarnyk asked about the August translations, I realised that it's perhaps a good idea to give you the links for the theme name templates - after all, they will be used in the watchlist notice for September (voting pages): and .
All the best, --Anna reg (talk) 08:02, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

--178.71.170.100 17:06, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Okras (talk) 18:29, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
--178.71.170.100 19:04, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Okras (talk) 09:39, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Okras (talk) 21:45, 11 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Est 1kr 08taga.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Notification about possible deletion

[edit]
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

[edit]

--337N1562 (talk) 08:32, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lizer

[edit]

PringAMD (talk) 11:58, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Okras (talk) 09:21, 14 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Maria Way This media is missing permission information.

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 17:44, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
