Image:Logo ESA.png
[edit]You uploaded the picture Image:Logo ESA.png and stated "The logo may be used together with the wikipedia articles". For an image to be allowed on commons, it has to be free: one should be allowed to use it on non-wikipedia projects, even commercial ones for example. Unless such things are explicitly allowed, sadly, the image has to be deleted. --Conti|✉ 01:50, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)
You uploaded this image with the comment Free for any use, provided that author is credited. well then: please credit the author. If you took the image yourself, say so explicitely (and maybe upload it in better quality). If not, please state who created it and where you got it from. -- Duesentrieb 21:39, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Please don't hide your images
[edit]Hello - thank you for providing images to the wikimedia commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the commons should be useful to all users of wikimedia projects - this is possible only if the images can be found by other people. To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should either place the images on topic pages (galleries), or put the images directly into a category, or do both. Which of those possibilities is preferred is however a matter of debate, see here.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There is a large number of completely unsorted images on the commons right now, see Commons:Really unused. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do! Thank you. -- Duesentrieb 22:26, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry for being impatient - it's just that i have to say that way too often, and that we have litterally thousands of uncategorized images on the commons that are more or less lost to the world... so, keep doing the good work and spread the word... thanks! -- Duesentrieb 00:20, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- OK, i categorized some of your images. The shuttles where easy (Category:Shuttles should not be hard to find?), but the hermes image has no license info (and no other info, either). The seven wonders where a little tricky - i created Category:Seven Wonders of the World for them. But many of your images lack a decent description of what they show. Also, the source/license info is often not sufficient: "from en:wp" is not a good source - who uploaded it there and when? Where did s/he get it from? The original source and author is crucial! Keep in mind that the lokal copy of the image may be deleted after the image has been copied to the commons - that way, all the neccessary info would be lost. Also, if you tag something as PD or copyrighted free use, it is important to give information sufficient to verify that status - that is, give a source and a reason why the image is PD. Thanks. -- Duesentrieb 00:42, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

assuming Public Domain...
[edit]Hi - you uploaded several images saying "imagem taken from de:wp, no license specified, assumind Public Domain" - note that images without a license tag are deleted from the german wikipedia, and it is much safer to assume a copyright violation when no license is given. Assuming public domain does not work because technically, the images cannot be PD unless they are very old, the creator always has to put them under some license. Thus I will tag those images for having no good license.
When copying images from another wikipedia, please always copy all information from that wikipedia (translated or not, as you like), and always link to the original image page and to the user who uploaded the image there, so he can be asked about the license.
If you are not sure about the license, please do not uploade the image! Thanks -- Duesentrieb 23:30, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I looked some more throu the pictures you uploaded - thanks for all the grate fotos! But I found one that just said "scanned image" - I marked it as a copyright violation. Note that a scan does not give you any rights to an image, the image is not free unless the picture you scanned was under a free license anyway. Also, if you produce someone elses work, always state your source and the creator of the original. Thanks! -- Duesentrieb 23:45, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Hi again - you said:
- I assumed PD because these images can be easily taken by visiting Lisbon, Portugal. So, even if the images get deleted, they can be easily replaced.
- The is absolutely wrong. This argument could be used to declare nearly any image PD. Chossing an angle, cammera setting, time of day, point of view etc makes such a picture a protected work of art, it cannot be assumed to be PD. I have tagged the images in the german wikipedia as missing a license as well.
- I always include the author when porting images here. When the images are obviously violating any copyright (say, professionally edited) I prefer not to uploaded. But you stated interesting points that I'll try to remember next time!
- Yes, most of the images you provided have good licenses and info - thanks for that!
- When porting images here, I set the interwiki to the source, thus not needing a clear statement/link to the original - just follow the interwiki. Does it make sense? :)
- No, this is not good, because images that have been copied to the commons are often deleted from the original wiki (it does not make sense to keep local copies). This way information about the author/uploader/etc will be lost if they have not been copied to the commons.
- You mentioned a scanned image but I couldn't find it on my contributions.. could you please specify?
- I mean Image:Pt-palacio-pena2.jpg - it does not say who the author of the original is or under what license that hardcopy was published. Or did you scan a picture you took yourself? If so, say this explicitely. Also... what does "angeled" mean in this context?
Thanks for your cooperation -- Duesentrieb 10:04, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit]hi nuno. please take a look here. they started a voting on lang-xx.gif. what do u think? should we defend our work? Schaengel89 @me 15:39, 4 May 2005 (UTC)
I have put the soccer logos up for deletion, because the design is copyrighted either by the individual clubs or the designer that did the original logo. Note that the images on HQFL can not be used freely, see the deletion request for an explanation.
If you are sure the original Logo design is PD (i.e. the copyright has expired and the soccer club has no rights to it), please document this clearly on the image description page and strike the file from the list at the deletion request. Thanks, and sorry... -- Duesentrieb 11:18, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

PNG versus JPG
[edit]Hi Nuno. I noticed Image:Pine cone with nuts.png, which you apparently modified with the Gimp. If you still have the original photo as it came out of your camera (probably in JPG format unless your camera is quite fancy!) it would be wonderful if you'd upload it with the name Pine_cone_with_nuts.jpg, then simply revert Image:Pine cone with nuts.jpg to your modified version. That way, people can see how you modified the photograph, and perhaps improve on your work. Thanks, dbenbenn | talk 17:59, 21 July 2005 (UTC)
- Dbenbenn, i don't know what happened to that foto, but something wrong, for sure. The raw JPG photo (from the camera) is about 500KB/600KB, so this one is taking up 2MB i don't know why! I've requested it for deletion, there's no point at keeping it since it's quality will never be better than 500KB... Anyway, I can't save PNG using gimp, not sure what I'm doing wrong... it saves with huge file sizes... and preserves the layers (from a cut/paste op). Have to study it better, though.. -- Nuno Tavares ☜ PT 23:08, 21 July 2005 (UTC)
- Well, I don't think you were doing anything wrong. PNG just isn't a very good format for photographs. I see that Image:Pine cone with nuts.jpg is still only 280KB. Could you upload the original 500KB version please? dbenbenn | talk 18:02, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

Compiler picture
[edit]Re: Image:Nt-compilador.png - you based this on my ideal compiler picture. However, your picture is misleading. If you look at my diagram, I had two seperate front end languages and two seperate target plantforms (thus, there are 4 possibles combinations of front-end-language and target platform). The purpose is to convey the idea that a compiler is supposed to be modular - have seperate front end and back end generators using the same intermediate stages. Your diagram 'squeezes' this into a single linear image, and as a result (in my opinion) it gives a distorted idea of what is going on. Raul654 03:54, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Statue of Zeus.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Statue of Zeus.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL-self to release it under the GFDL or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Hello, Cool Cat. I'm wondering why did you simply remove this pilot-test without waiting for the community opinion. Did I miss something? The problem is that pt:Wikipedia is being use to set homepages for users that don't do anything more than argue, or even nothing more at all. There are *no* internal quarrels. Many users are expressing their feelings against this kind of use of resources and, obviously, FML is the owner of the picture, and one of the most criticized, as you may confirm by reading the whole discussion here. But what really surprises me is how you can cancel a voting based on your own opinion. Please reply, -- Nuno Tavares ☜ PT 16:03, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- If he uploads his entire family album, I would delete it at an instant. To my knowlege he only has two and only two images on commons. I have kept the two since they are acceptable under Commons:Project scope:
- ... However it is allowed uploading in small quantity images of yourself and others as long they are useful for some Wikimedia project (for example an Wikipedia article, a Wikinews report, in a meta article, on a user-page)...
- My idea of small quantity can be "5" personal images. Even then, I am more than willing to be flexible if I see any potential educational use. Those two images can have encyclopedic usage on articles talking about the matrix on projects that do not allow fair use. I have such a picture myself on my userpage which can also have an encyclopedic value such as an article about cats. You also have such an image on your userpage.
- Harddrives are cheep. 4-5 images per person really doesn't use that much harddrive space. It would use more hard drive space when deleted (we are talking bytes).
- Debates on commons are not required to last a certain time span. They can be closed the second they are engaged at an admins discretion. I just do not see a valid/acceptable reason for deletion at the moment since it is clear image is not a copyvio.

If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-3.0 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. Image deletion warning | Image:ISS Canada Hand.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

about Tlatelolco Photo
[edit]Hi WP partner.
I corrected the name of the Temple that you unloaded from Tlatelolco, Mexico. I am uploading many photos but yours is very good. I am going to upload the text (spanish and english) from the self archeological site and the site map and description. There everybody can realise the correct name for that Temple.
Thanks.

File source is not properly indicated: File:Origami-insectes-fleurs.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Origami-insectes-fleurs.jpg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (
:File:Origami-insectes-fleurs.jpg ).
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 21:52, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Please help replace this outdated license
[edit]Hello!
Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.
The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.
Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.
The images we would like you to check are:

Hey hey
[edit]Oi Nuno!

Wiki Loves Monuments 2011
[edit]Oi Nuno,

Garsd (talk) 19:32, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Template:IPPAR has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this template, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. |

Category:Chafariz_no_Largo_do_Carmo has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Copyright status: File:PortugueseFlag1185.svg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:PortugueseFlag1185.svg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Segundo as orientações do saudoso professor https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuel_Luciano_da_Silva
— Preceding unsigned comment added by Robertolyra (talk • contribs) 15:13, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

ISS insignia
[edit]Hi, we are having a discussion at the Wikipedia ISS talk page [2] about the "ISS insignia.svg" you made. Would you have any more details about its design origin other than the links in the file description? Yours sincerely, Nsae Comp (talk) 19:19, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
