First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?

Hello Curb Safe Charmer: Thank you for having reviewed my draft "Phou pheung noi". About the question of the source and information of my picture File:Phou pheung noi to know where it is from? I would like to say that this picture is from my own works and it is created by myself. There is not a scam or copyright came from any other works or anyone and organization. I draw it with my hands and based on my childhood memories when I was a kid and lived in that village. Where is from the idea? I draw it based on what I knew and I have seen in Phou pheung noi in the late 1969'. Other reason is because I was born, grew up and lived there since my birth to the day, in the beginning of July 1969, when I left this place to escape death. Due the Vietnam War, I had no choice. This is why I am in the USA today. This picture will mark things that were existing before the US air forces destroyed my village by thousand of bombs. Hello Justiyaya, my apologies. I didn't know what I did was a violation. I thought Google Earth is free for everyone, so I went to use it to map Laos Route 7. I thought Google earth should be free and would be more accurate than if I draw the road with my hand. That was why I used google to measure the route distance and then used google earth to get a photo of route 7 of Laos. If you think this is a violation then I apologize and then I will try to find another way how I can find a map of this route. I really appreciate what your supports.
