I don't mind it being PD for the purpose of press uses. I'd rather it stayed as GFDL for wiki uses though, so I'll dual license it. Angela 18:08, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Salut Notafish,

Welcome Log

[edit]

Hey Notafish... thanks for your help on the Welcome log. :) I am curious why you don't just remove the names after you've checked them, though? Do you think the template is more useful? pfctdayelise (translate?) 15:46, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's cool. Although the backlog rather means we have trouble even getting to everyone once, let alone twice! sigh. cheers, pfctdayelise (translate?) 13:42, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thankyou, that's very kind of you! *big sunny grin* pfctdayelise (translate?) 13:51, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gah. I just wrote this and then hit preview instead of save, and closed my tab. :/ .

Well, Cliff's Notes version: it might be his own work. He did even provide a date. But it might not. It's very low res. If you want to push it further, I would tag it as no source () and ask the uploader to upload the original, uncropped, hi-res file. Then there is no problem, he is the photographer. If not, well, the image will be eligible for deletion after 7 days, but likely hang around for weeks after that... but eventually be deleted. pfctdayelise (translate?) 14:29, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, right. I kind of mentioned that in my first (lost) reply but didn't bother writing it again. :) I don't think so, if she's a politician she's something of a public figure. If you were to crop this image to just her, and then use it in some other context it would possibly not be free, but that's a concern for whoever decides to create that derivative work, and it's not a copyright-restriction as such. So IMO it's fine. But I'm certainly not the last word on copyright (+ other rights) interpretation (and that's all I believe any of us are doing here, interpretation). :) --pfctdayelise (translate?) 15:08, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, are you concerned now about whether or not the uploader is the copyright holder, or whether the woman has some personality rights over this image? I think in both cases it's OK, actually. pfctdayelise (translate?) 15:58, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for putting up with me and my renewed interest in commons, I had lost faith. Well I'm very happy if you start to find it again. :) You're always welcome to ask me any questions you might have. cheers, pfctdayelise (translate?) 00:51, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Admin news

Hello,

If you consent for statistics to be published about your actions as an administrator, please sign here: Commons:Administrator permission for statistics. (I expect that most people will not have a problem with it unless you are especially concerned with privacy.)

Also, please be aware that we now have a Commons:Administrators' noticeboard. Please put it on your watchlist, if you haven't already!

Bloqueo Injustificado

[edit]

(en) Hello mi friend, mi account was blocked by Siebrand.

My account ruben_bardales85 is already blocked with de ID #6813, However there is no valid reason spesificated, It just said: "bye bye" (how funny !),

Maybe i did make a foul for wikimedia commons politics, i am really sorry, i just want to know when my account will be unblocked?

Your upload of Esvastica y lineas azules.png was the reason for the ban. Siebrand 05:20, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. This message is sent out to you because you are an administrator on Commons, and you made little use (or no use) of the admin tools lately: less than 5 times in the last five months.

Commons has a new policy on admin activity, Commons:Administrators/De-adminship, taken into use on June 13, 2007 (after a poll among users). According to that policy, admins who use their tools infrequently will be asked whether they still need their adminship, and if they do not respond or require them the removal of the tools will be requested.

If you feel you still need your admin tools, please sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days from the date this message was sent out. However, if you then don't make 5 admin actions in the following 5 months, you will lose the adminship without any notice.

This is not a comment on the considerable help you have given to the project in the past but reflects the wish of the community to see active administrators and to ensure that possible security breaches are minimized.

This message is sent out by bot. If you want to give feedback on it, you can do so here — 08:50, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: newbie

[edit]

You (or any admin) can add commands to User:CommonsDelinker/commands (otherwise, add them to the talk page and they will be checked and then added). There are a variety of commands available but the one you want is this one:

Original image.jpg

There is a third parameter which you can optionally add at the end, |reason=Reason for replacement.

Hi there!

I noticed you made some nice size-comparison graphics for articles like large airplanes and ships, and I wondered if you were interested in doing something similar for an article that I sort of keep an eye on: Orders of Magnitude

Leave a comment on that article's talk page if you want...

Hope to talk to you,

Image deletion warning Template:AccueilRecherche has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Dear Notafish/archives2. I am writing to you to inform you that because of inactivity, you may lose your adminship on Commons.

Commons has a new policy on admin activity, Commons:Administrators/De-adminship, taken into use on June 13, 2007 (after a two-week poll on the proposed policy's talk page).

If you want to keep your adminship, you have to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days. Note that if you don't make 5 admin actions in the following 5 months, you will then lose the adminship anyways.

Thank you,

Categories

[edit]

Re [4]:

 • Or even simpler: this search turns up the image right away.

But I agree that categories can sometimes be messy. Often they're too specific, and if I don't know that the bus sign is an "information sign", I have to check several categories. And if I search for "bus" instead of "autobus", the image isn't found.

Images can be found, but it takes too much effort. But it isn't a category problem alone. An improved "incategory" search would help. Currently, "incategory" needs apparently a full match. If it also had a way to use substring matches, we'd get the best of two worlds: tags and categories. If you don't know what "incategory" is, try this search: +incategory:"Naissance en 1855" +incategory:"Décès en 1938" on fr-WP. It should find all people categorized as born in 1855 and died in 1938. But unfortunately I need to give both category names in full. Lupo 10:57, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour,
-- Asclepias (talk) 18:31, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Notafish!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Bouquet pour Florence : image perdue

[edit]
Bouquet fleurs.png
Veronica chamaedrys2.jpg

Bonjour.

--GaAs11671 23:51, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
