adm location maps

Hey! so a few months ago I saw your new "adm" maps and so we decided to run a bot to replace our maps in hewiki with the adm maps. I looked at a couple of maps for example Belize and I saw that the boundry of the maps is the same as Belize location map.svg. However now, we noticed that the boundry of File:Argentina adm location map.svg is not the same as File:Argentina location map.svg.
Question: Are there any maps except for argentina in which you changed the boundry?

I cannot tell for all maps, I forgot, sorry. Sometimes there are minor or other changes like the rivers in the Belize map. I remember Chad, Kenya and Sri Lanka are different (but the former location maps weren't made by me), NNW 20:32, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

I took a better projection for Finland, so you cannot use a template for equirectangular maps (with top, bottom, left, right). You have to do like he:תבנית:מפת מיקום/רוסיה with Russia edcp location map.svg. NNW 14:00, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Perhaps you should also take a look at et:Mall:Asendikaart Soome where they seem to have found a solution to use this file without special programming. NNW 14:10, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Hallo NNW, bei Municipalities in V.svg ist Dir ein Fehler unterlaufen. Tatsächlich wurde die Gemeinde de:Reuth (Vogtland) nach de:Weischlitz eingemeindet, nicht andersrum. Norway Rogaland - Hjelmeland.svg

Great maps you have made of the municipalities in Norway! I would like to ask you to correct a minor detail of the Hjelmeland map found as Norway Rogaland - Hjelmeland.svg. The southern border that you have indicated is in fact a river within Hjelmeland, and the actual sothern border towards Forsand is closer to the next fiord (Lysefjorden). If you compare the three maps Norway Rogaland - Hjelmeland.svg, Norway Rogaland - Forsand.svg and Norway Rogaland - Strand.svg, you will notice there is a triangle between them that is not within any of the three municipalities, but it belongs to Hjelmeland. Undergo a former (pre-1965) municipalities of Norway map series?

Hi, NNW. I would like to ask if you would be interested in undergoing an extensive project to make svg-maps of the former (pre-1965) municipalities of Norway? The aim is to create maps of the same standard as the current series (e.g. the above mentioned Norway Rogaland - Hjelmeland.svg, for the about 750 municipalities that existed until the 1960s. ich wollte gerne Deine sehr schöne Karte der Weimarer Republik als Basis nehmen um mittelfristig detailliertere Wahlkarten für die Reichstagswahlen zu basteln. Dabei bin ich aber unsicher geworden, weil ich etwas den Eindruck gewonnen habe, dass mir die Ostgrenze der Provinz Ostpreußen deformiert erscheint (nach Nordosten hin scheint die Provinz einen Buckel zu haben, insgesamt wirkt die Provinz auf mich vertikal komprimiert). Bist Du sicher dass das so korrekt ist? Oder ist es nur mein subjektiver Eindruck aufgrund der Projektion?

Moin! Bei dieser Projektion ist immer nur ein verhältnismäßig kleiner Streifen korrekt dargestellt, hier die Höhe vom Ruhrgebiet bzw. Leipzig/Halle. Alles nördlich davon ist vertikal gequetscht, alles südlich in die Länge gezerrt. Ich kann aber gerne nochmal prüfen, ob mir bei Ostpreußen ein Fehler passiert ist. Hallo NNW, ok danke für Deine Antwort. Ich kenne mich überhaupt nicht mit Kartenprojektionen aus. Warum nimmt man solche Plattkarten - ist das der Wikipedia-Standard für Positionskarten? Oder könntest Du eine andere SVG-Karte empfehlen, die man nehmen könnte? Die Karten, die mir so vorschweben, sollen nicht als Positionskarten dienen, sondern einfach nur die Wahlergebnisse darstellen (also in etwa so wie diese hier, nur deutlich detaillierter). An Deiner Karte fand ich ganz schön, dass sie erstmal recht detailliert ist und dass da auch die Flüsse etc. abgebildet sind. Grüße --Furfur ^{⁂ Diskussion} 18:14, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Die Plattkarte ist am einfachsten in der Handhabung in einer Positionskarten-Vorlage. Weiter oben gibt es bspw. eine Anfrage wegen einer Karte, die eine echte Kartenprojektion verwendet und prompt für viele Projekte problematisch ist, weil es dann nicht mehr funktioniert mit der simplen Angabe von oberer, unterer, linker und rechter Begrenzung, das ist dann richtig Mathematik. Ob es eine alternative SVG-Karte gibt, kann ich dir nicht sagen, da müsste ich erst genauso suchen wie du. NNW 11:13, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

I'm sorry for asking a lot of questions but I just really want to hear your opinion before creating other location maps. What do you think of the Warsaw map?

1. Should I remove the brown areas indicating populated areas?
2. Are the rivers ok? Their stroke and all?
3. Really small water sources: Should I remove them as you did in Blarus?
4. Any other comments? I really want to know about ANYTHING before creating more maps and I really value your opinion as a graphist.

Only a short answer (lack of time):

1. No, they are okay and they help to understand a city.
2. There is a graphic mistake at Vistula River at the southern part of the map (thicker stroke). In OSM rivers often lack their beginnings. It is necessary to add those missing parts if there are missing parts.
3. I think these small lakes are senseless (there are only few small rivers, that's no problem). I would have deleted them to create a more clear map and to decrease the file size. On the other hand: this takes time and when used with 220px or 300px they vanish automatically.
4. I would have generalized the populated areas. In my opinion there are too many too small areas and unnecessary gaps. On the other hand: see above.

When I open the file in its full size [2] more area is shown on the left and the right. Something is wrong with this file. NNW 10:25, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

Maps of egyptian governorates

Hi. I've noticed you created new maps of egyptian governorates few years ago. It seems that Arabian Wikipedia uses different maps where Luxor Governorate is much bigger. Look at this file to see the difference. I don't know which version is correct, but I think they can be right. I saw a document from CAPMAS and Luxor Governorate has quite big surface there and is even bigger than 5 other governorates. City Population site and UNICEF are using theses new maps but some other sites use different versions. I couldn't find maps on sites of Egyptian governments. Could you please check it and correct it please if it is not a trouble? Anyway I heard they want to add another 3 governorates and change borders of many others so even an updated versions of maps can be out of date in a few months but who knows? Hello! Egyptian governorates are really difficult. I have been looking for an official (and up to date!) map for a long times – no result. en:Luxor Governorate says the governorate has an area of 55 km². That is quite small. Which one is correct?

These three new governorates are mentioned in note from 2014. I doubt that they came to existance. NNW 09:45, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Karte zu Potsdam-Klein Glienicke

Tach, NNW, es geht um File:Karte Klein Glienicke.png. Schade, dass ich die Anfrage in der Kartenwerkstatt nicht mitbekommen habe. So muss ich mich extra melden:

• Die Bezeichnung „Nördl. Vorstadt“ links oben ist nicht falsch, aber ungenau: Einerseits hätte ich dann den Plural favorisiert, allerdings ist man sich da innerhalb der Stadt Potsdam auch nicht einig (man findet beides), andererseits und für mich wichtiger heißt der Stadtteil direkt westlich der Glienicker Brücke „Berliner Vorstadt“. Siehe auch de:Potsdam#Stadtgliederung und Quellen.
• Ich habe mich damit nicht weiter beschäftigt, ob es durch Quellen belegt ist, aber laut de:Park Klein-Glienicke heißt der Parkteil am Jagdschloss Glienicke „Jagdschlossgarten“.

Left and right coordinates in Lapland map

Thank you for making a better map for Lapland! In Malline:Sijaintikartta Lapin maakunta I put the top at 70.2 and bottom at 65.4 just like in the German version of the map. But what should be put into left and right? The present coordinates 20.8 and 30.5 are not correct, because Halti goes too much west in the map, if I try the Finnish map in the article. --Raksa123 (talk) 20:24, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

This won't work that way. The projection is completely different. I try to explain:

• 
  equististant projection
• 
  conic projection
• 
  equidistant projection
• 
  conic projection

• Equidistant projection: all latitudes and all longitudes are parallel lines. So the whole northern egde of a map has got the same latitude, the whole southern edge, too, and both the left and the right edge have got a constant longitude. That's why you can say: top =, bottom =, left= and right=.
• Conic projection: In a conic projection neither the latitudes nor the longitudes are parallel lines. The longitudes lead to a pole, the latitudes are circlelike around the pole. Imagine to cut off a rectangular map out of the second map above. No edge of this map will have a single, consistent longitude or latitude. That's why your template for Russia works different than your template of France.

Compare the two maps of Finland. The first map shows a hugh Lapland compared to the rest of Finland. In a conic projection Lapland is shown more precisely. That's why I take conic projections for areas near a pole now. But this requires a modification of your location map template. It has to be done like the Russia map (or you find a user like Spischot at de:WP – unfortunately no longer active – who is able to program a template like de:Vorlage:Positionskarte/Lineare Kegelprojektion. N series

Hey. I have a few questions about the N series maps. So I was requested to create county maps for poland (second level) and I decided that if I'm going to create I will do it professionally like you.

1. firstly I downloaded QGIS. What program do you use?
2. then I downloaded the Cia world databank II
3. went to the US site and took shp file of the subdivisions of poland.
4. also downloaded GSHHS (shore)

Questions:

1. Is what I did okay? would you do it else?
2. Can you send me the relief map colors, I saw that it's different.
3. How do I create a relief map with the country borders (How do I make the contries colors transparent I QGIS/the program that u use)
4. How do I create a location map, should I export it to svg and then edit it?

I don't know if QGIS is okay for this work, I use a vector graphic programs (e.g. Illustrator, sometimes some other). If you know how to work with SVGs it might be better for you to export the original data as soon as possible to SVG. Of course then it is no longer data with coordinates, you will be unable to transform it into another projection. WDB II is a sufficent database for whole countries. For more detailed maps you will need more information. I take VMAP Level 0 with the original scale 1:1.000.000. VMAP requires some re-working and updating because it is old and badly digitalized but it is okay enough to start with it as long as you only use the waterbodies. I would suggest that you start with an administrative map and when you are experienced with that then you can try to create a relief map. It is more difficult and it depends on the scale which database is suitable for a relief map. NNW 17:33, 21 March 2017 (UTC)

Nachdem nun die Höherstufung der Bundesstraße 6 zwischen Vienenburg und Bernburg zur A 36 offiziell geworden ist, benötigen wir hier eine neue Karte über deren Verlauf. Kannst Du das übernehmen? Mahlzeit! Natürlich, das liegt auf der Hand. Mir ist aber bereits aufgefallen, dass aktuelle Baustellen (wie zum Beispiel die A 14) nicht mit inbegriffen waren, es bezüglich zur Hochstufung - nicht zum Neubau - vorgesehener Autobahnen aber keine 'intuitive' Regelung gibt (was auch erklärt, warum ich die A 860 hinzugefügt habe). Ich möchte dir da auch nicht ins Werk pfuschen, nicht, dass du hier mit irgendwelchen ungewollten Neuinterpretationen von Dritten wie mich konfrontiert bist ;)

Nichtsdestoweniger naht der Zeitpunkt, bis die Autobahn offiziell wird. Da die A 36 im Dreieck direkt in die A 395 übergeht, stellt sich nun folgende Frage: Sollte man die A 395 trotz dreistelliger Nummer beschriften, um die Unterschiedlichkeit der beiden Autobahnen zu verdeutlichen - zumal es mit fast 40 Kilometern die längste dreistellige Autobahn überhaupt ist? Oder soll das System rigide beibehalten werden, weil die Ausnahme schon eine Ausnahme zu viel ist und nicht ins System passt? -Nin-TD (talk) 18:42, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

(Ich antworte hier, da ich das „Springen“ von Diskussionsfäden sinnlos finde.) Das Prinzip ist dieser Datei ist die Darstellung des Ist-Zustandes, völlig unabhängig davon, ob etwas geplant, im Bau oder demnächst zur Aufstufung vorgesehen ist. Ich denke, dass es durchaus sinnvoll ist, die A 395 dann zu beschriften, um zu zeigen, dass die A 36 nicht bis Braunschweig führt, auch wenn sie dann die einzige dreistellige Autobahn mit Beschriftung ist. Ukraine Map and Moldova relief map

Hello again. I had a very minor concern about File:Ukraine adm location map.svg. After recent updates, the border between the Kherson Oblast and the Zaporizhia Oblast on the Biryuchiy Ostriv was removed. Could you please return it? Hey, sorry, I actually just looked at the Moldova map again, and it seems to be in okay quality. I think my computer made it seem worse than it really was from far away. It would be helpful if the key for File:Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.svg would also show what is meant by the flat grey colour. Currently a large portion of the map has this colour, but without any explanation of what it means. It might also be helpful to either remove Antarctica from the map or to give it a different colour from the U.S., Canada, Australia, etc., since Antarctica is not a state with eligibility to vote. Mir ist bis vorgestern gar nicht erst aufgefallen, dass du überhaupt geantwortet hast. Ich muss zugeben, dass ich es meinerseits versäumt habe, hier vorbeizuschauen; mein Hauptargument ist jedoch, dass der Nutzet bei einer neuen Antwort benachrichtigt wird. Aus der Perspektive der Kohärenz gesehen ist der Einwurf natürlich richtig, nur ist der vorige Beitrag ein Beispiel, wie eine Konversation dadurch im Nichts "versiegen" kann.

Zur Antwort: Ich bin heute in meinen Urlaub gefahren. Logischerweise kann ich meinen Computer nicht fernsteuern, weswegen ich entschied, lieber die Sache im Nachhinein aufzuklären und gegebenenfalls wieder zurückzusetzen als die Datei überhaupt nicht hochzuladen. Ich hatte eine etwas schnellere Reaktionsspanne erwartet, weil du schließlich ein aktiver Admin auf Commons bist, aber damit möchte und kann ich dir natürlich keinen Vorwurf machen. ich bin gerade dabei die Autobahnen ein bisschen zu überarbeiten. Dabei ist mir aufgefallen, dass es für die A22 noch keine Karte im Format wie für die anderen gibt. Da Du anscheinend der Urheber vieler ähnlicher Karten bist, z.B. Logos für Fährlinien in Hamburg

Hallo NordNordWest, Du hast ja schon diverse Logos u.a. für U- und S-Bahnlinien in Hamburg erstellt. Daher jetzt meine Frage: Würdest Du auch derartige Logos für die Fährlinien in Hamburg kreieren? Diese Fähren sind ja auch Bestandteil des Verkehrsliniennetzes. Ich würde es ja selber tun, wenn ich es denn könnte. Als Beispiel bzw. Vorlage könnten Dir die website der HADAG und die Fahrpläne der einzelnen Linien dienen. Ein Logo -ohne Nummern- gibt es ja schon (File:Hamburg Hafenfaehren-Logo Blank.svg) Ich würde mich freuen und danke schon mal vorab. Positionskarten

hallo wie geht es dir NNW? ich hoffe gut. gibt es eigentlich die idee freie positionskarten zu generieren? man nehme zum beispiel irgendeinen ort wie Skopje auf dem Balkan und gibt dann noch einen Radius wie zb 200km an und Wiki zeichnet dir die gewünschte karte. bisher sind ja die posikarten von den koordinaten begrenzt, und teilweise fehlen nützliche karten, die die grenzregion von mehreren ländern betreffen. ich weiß nicht, ob ich mich klar ausgedrückt habe. mfg --KureCewlik81 (talk) 18:26, 19 September 2017 (UTC)

The preliminary work reflects the increment on global file usage(Nepal Province No. 2 adm location map.svg).
