Image:Mir Castle Complex.jpg Copyrights?
[edit]Same image could be found there: http://www.math.toronto.edu/oz/turgor/pictures/SC2004/Pages/P8010038.html
Upper level page (http://www.math.toronto.edu/oz/turgor/picturegallery/index.php) said about copyrights of “Math Net, University of Toronto”.
If this is your one photo you should clearly write this fact in description and use PD-self or PD-user instead of PD. And probably explain why this image could be found in other places for avoid further copyright related questions.

- Thank you for your information! I just couldn't find where this image was from. I have written to webmaster to get his consent.
- In future you should get permission for free license before putting images here. This image should be deleted (it's clearly copyrights violation now).
- And I feel that you don't understand public domain concept completely. Please read more on this subject. --EugeneZelenko 13:54, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Question: how did you manage to find source of this image? I cannot guess how this could be done... :)
- Google Images for Mir Castle (second page of results). --EugeneZelenko 13:58, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Missing license info in your images
[edit]Hi - some of the images you uploaded are missing license information. Please have a look at Commons:Untagged_images#Numbers_and_Symbols and add the missing info. Thanks! --EugeneZelenko 15:35, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Please provide source of this image. Please note that PNG is more preferable format for such kind of images. --EugeneZelenko 02:31, 13 May 2005 (UTC)
- ok. I am thinking about changing format... in a few days. --Monk 06:10, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
Belarusian pronunciation files
[edit]Please reupload them with correct Łacinka or Cyrillic names. It’ll be hard to find them in Category:Belarusian pronunciation without looking into description. --EugeneZelenko 03:12, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
Please don't upload COAs images until all file names related questions will be resolved in be:Вікіпэдыя:Форум#Перанос выяваў гербаў у ВікіСховішча. Please note that PNG format is preferable on Commons, because GIF is still patented. --EugeneZelenko 03:12, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
- Ok. Could PNG files be found on vector-images.com or should I convert it to PNG myself? --Monk 08:11, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
Minsk metro photos
[edit]Hello Monk,
thank you very much for the new photo of Spartovaja station, which opened November 7. Can you take more photos for commons? For example of the new endstation "Kamennajaa Gorka" or of the other, older stations. Thanks and greetins from Berlin --Jcornelius 13:56, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
Please read carefully Commons:Language policy - categories names should be English only.
I don't think that Commons is good place for pushing Belarusian classic spelling POV (English Wikipedia either). So please use transliteration from official spelling.

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 20:46, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Transnistria has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |
