Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 17:45, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
Copyright tag removal
[edit]I assume this edit was a mistake, with which you removed the copyright tag from the image I found in Category:Media without a license: needs history check today. Please be more careful when editing such image details because it could well have been deleted for lack of a licence except that I reviewed the history and found the problem. Fish counting stations
[edit]Any basis for designating this as a fish counting station? - Jmabel ! talk 16:52, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Jmabel, maybe just a view for salmons on this picture, but I found Hiram M. Chittenden Locks Salmon Counts, on the web. Qu'en penses tu ? Minerv (talk) 12:38, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
- That's ok. Here with picture: This sockeye salmon will be counted as it climbs the fish ladder at the the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, also known as the Ballard Locks, in Seattle., Minerv (talk) 12:51, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- I just now very belatedly noticed that you had replied. No, it's not a fish counting station. It's a public viewing window at a fish ladder. - Jmabel ! talk 16:09, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Category:Illustrations of duck breeds
[edit]Hi Minerv - just noticed you'd moved a whole lot of categories from Category:Ducks in art to Category:Illustrations of duck breeds; this isn't correct, as the categories concerned are of species (natural biological taxa), not breeds (minor domesticated variants). Could you change them back, or to something more appropriate, please? Thanks! - MPF (talk) 23:49, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
- Hi MPF, thanks to have seen my mistake. So that's corrected, Minerv (talk) 13:49, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- Merci! - MPF (talk) 19:15, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Sprouts
[edit]I'm trying to figure out how File:Khanaeng.jpg doesn't fit into Category:Sprouts. When I go to the disambiguation page w:Sprout, I see a link to w:Shoot. There I read that ...perennial plant shoots are the new growth that grows from the ground in herbaceous plants or the new stem and/or flower growth that grows on woody plants. The way that khanaeng is grown, is to cut off the fully grown white cabbage from it's root, and then wait for new, multiple small, shoots to grow out of the root, simulating what happens with certain plants in Spring, as mentioned in the sentence that I just quoted above. Is khanaeng then not a shoot/sprout? - Takeaway (talk) 11:28, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
Hi, I'm not sure there is a place called a "topiary" in the same sense that orange trees form an orangery. The Royal Horticultural Society state: "Topiary is the art of training plants (typically evergreen shrubs and trees) into intricate or stylized shapes and forms. The term may also be used more loosely to describe a number of garden features that rely on the close clipping and shaping of plants". link. Even accepting the looser definition does not imply such a place and I think that your usage may confuse native English speakers, despite the redirect from "Topiary". Can I ask where you found this definition? Cheers. Rodhullandemu (talk) 19:28, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Rodhullandemu, found on the Collins dictionary online, regards, Minerv (talk) 19:45, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
noun:
1 (plural) -aries:
....a. topiary work
....b. a topiary garden
2. the art of topiary
- Hmmm. I haven't come across this usage before and not sure it's in common use. Never mind. Rodhullandemu (talk) 20:05, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
Thymus praecox subsp. britannicus → Thymus pseudolanuginosus ?
[edit]Dear Minerv,
I have seen that you have reverted my edit "Thymus praecox subsp. britannicus" to "Thymus pseudolanuginosus".
According to the World Checklist[1], Thymus pseudolanuginosus Ronniger (Rep. Bot. Soc. Exch. Club Brit. Isles 8: 168, 1926) is an obsolete synonym, of the accepted name is Thymus praecox subsp. britannicus (Ronniger) Holub (Preslia 45: 359, 1973).
Best regards, --Réginald alias Meneerke bloem (To reply) 22:06, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
- I Réginald alias Meneerke bloem, ref. GRIN: Thymus pseudolanuginosus Ronniger is a ornamental thyme only cultivated, and Thymus praecox subsp. britannicus (Ronniger) Holub is native from Ireland, United Kingdom, Belgium, France and Spain, and also cultivated. I don't found another reference for the synonym, but I'm looking for it anyway. Amicalement, Minerv (talk) 22:30, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

Categorizing species by location
[edit]Hi! It's misleading to categorize a species category as whole, like Category:Hyparrhenia hirta, as flora of different countries. Such categorizes consist specimens from different location if not from all over the world. So for a specific country most of the images in its flora subcategory wouldn't be of that country. Please consider notes at the bottom of this topic. If necessary then location specific species categorized can be created, like "Hyparrhenia hirta in India". 90.191.109.9 07:40, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hello unknown! In Category:Hyparrhenia hirta, it's only the native countries, and this species is naturalized elsewhere (GRIN). If you want to create "Hyparrhenia hirta in India" like Category:Quercus suber by country, you can open each image to categorize it... , and please don't delete the native countries (1, 2...) or write a note e.g. "Note: this species is native of ...", thanks. Regards, Minerv (talk) 11:00, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- The problem is that if category "Hyparrhenia hirta" has 44 images and if, say, one of them depicts a specimen from Yemen, then the rest of 43 images are incorrectly placed as specimens from Yemen being found in a subcategory of "Flora of Yemen".
- The main purpose of the categorizing system on Commons is to categorize specific images, not to provide specific information about depicted subjects. I understand these are the native countries, but to provide information on range and other sort of specific information, you could rather seek for an article on Wikipedia. 90.190.59.224 17:08, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Rorippa austriaca
[edit]Bonjour Minerv. Le foto de Pforzheim de Rorippa austriaca. Je suis interessé, où tu le a trouvée. Dans notre carte de reparition de Baden-Württemberg il manque. Est-il possible de gagner une position plus precise? Merci. Seysi — Preceding unsigned comment added by Seysi (talk • contribs) 10:08, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Seysi, File:Pforzheim gelb blühende Pflanze.JPG is a picture of User:4028mdk09 (maybe Wildpark Pforzheim), you have to ask him. I found a document: Biotope in Baden-Württemberg (p. 24), if that can help you. Regards, Minerv (talk) 19:37, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
Honeycombs in art
[edit]Hello Minerv! I noticed you moved a few of my photos from Category:Honey to Category:Honeycombs in art. The photos depict a rock carving about the content of honey made by a bee keeping enthusiast. I know that it probably ain't optimal to have them in the category Honey. But Honeycombs in art doesn't seem suitable either. Do you know of any better category? Regards Averater (talk) 16:28, 4 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Averater, I found ref. about Georg Gustavsson, so I've added some categories. regards, Minerv (talk) 14:41, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you. I complemented the date of his death. I have plenty of references about him but as I am biased (he was my granddads cousin) I have not got the courage to write a Wikipedia article about him. I also noticed that you continued cleaning up the categories for his inscriptions. Please let me know if you have any questions concerning the motives. --Averater (talk) 15:54, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
Upcoming Wiki Science Competition

Yoghurt and food has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |
