First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki—it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], which produces: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|correct name}}

No fair use

Hello.

The old logos of KDE are probably free and might be under the LGPL, like the new ones. A proof is needed though.

On the other hand, “I'm allowed to upload this files as there's no commercial intention and are uploaded to use to write about KDE project” (i.e. a fair use claim) is not valid for Commons, because Commons is not an encyclopedia, and it only accepts free images. Please see Commons:Fair use for details on why fair use is not allowed. Also, tagging them with {{GFDL}} was simply wrong, because you did not know if they were under GFDL.

I'm sorry for the inconvenient. As I understand from here ( http://www.kde.org/stuff/clipart.php ) the LGPL license is applicable to both the new logos and the old logos. And from here: http://techbase.kde.org/index.php?title=Policies/Licensing_Policy , point 7, I understand that logos are and must have always been GPL/LGPL/BSD/X11/MIT licensed. If a formal confirmations is necessary ask and I'd directly contact with the project or KDE e.v.

Actually, trademark fair use is usually OK (I guess I have misunderstood your intent there). As long as the logos' copyright is under the LGPL, no copyright fair use is needed.
Both statements about LGPL in http://www.kde.org/stuff/clipart.php appear to be in the section about the current official logos, which gave me small doubts about the licensing of the older logos.

Como Category:Pontevea bridge xa está incluída en Category:Sistema Fluvial Ulla-Deza, non fai falta incluír esta última nas imaxes que xa están categorizadas coa primeira. É como se ás imaxes de Category:Padrón lle pos Category:Province of A Coruña; non fai falta por redundante, pola estrutura en árbore xerárquica das categorías.
