Nice restoration! I was planning to take a run at the same thing when this one came unlocked. But there it is. You just can't outrun an administrator. ;-) -- WikiPedant (talk) 20:08, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Sorry for being inconsistant with your opinion: of course, there is a valid reason for its delition:
By the way: the name of the file and it's description are still wrong and you did not correct them: "Dieses Foto entstand bei einem Besuch von Sophies Bruder Hans Scholl in Blumberg. Der Fotograf war Hans Scholl selbst." - that's not true: neither it has been taken in Blumberg (according to Zoske - most probably 1938 at the river Iller) nor the photographer has been Hans Scholl (this only would give an argument for keeping, 75 years after his death in 1943 and this was the (wrong) argument in 2018).
What we can say: The photographer is unknown, so far, okay; but now the licence mentions a "copyright term of 70 years after the a work was made available to the public and the author never disclosed their identity" . Do you know, when this work "was made available to the public". i.e. published? I do not. But 1938 is definitely not the beginning of the "70 year"-term after publication; its the year, when the photo was made.--Markus Wolter (talk) 16:26, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- p.s.: Other photos of this "River-Iller-Series" of Sophie Scholl, which are published by Barbara Beuys (2010), Thomas Hartnagel (2005) claim Susanne Zeller-Hirtzel and Manuel Aicher, Dietikon, Schweiz, a member of the Aicher-Scholl-Family, as copyright-owners; Zoske himself claims Dr. Johannes Kuhn (he got access to the dated Ernst Reden-copies of this series) as the copy-right owner.--Markus Wolter (talk) 04:56, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi! Can you review this please? it's a very used image, but with wrong copyright... Thanks! MiguelAlanCS (talk) 06:15, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
Deleted file not deleted?
Hi Materialscientist - according to Commons:Deletion requests/File:Restless Flycatcher (10625071903).jpg you deleted the linked file 2 weeks ago due to incorrect copyright . . . yet the file is still there? Nothing in the file history to suggest a re-upload, either. Just for information! - MPF (talk) 23:37, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
- Deleted now, thanks. 06:11, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Ludwig Guttmann.jpg
This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Ludwig Guttmann.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

File:Yukio Endo 1962.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

"No permission since" templates on files with OTRS information
Did you add the "No permission since" template to these two files (File:Towdie Screenshot.png and File:Towdie Title Screen.png) with a bugged automated tool or is this just a mistake on your part? Finnish markka coins
Hi, back in May there was a deletion request which resulted in removing some Markka images from Commons. Could you please elaborate on why the cited copyright council opinion was not enough to keep them? - Xbspiro (talk) 09:45, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
- The cited opinion was unclear and apparently referred to a particular coin and not to all coins. Also, the Commons:Copyright_rules_by_territory/Finland#Currency still states that Finnish currency images are not in public domain, so if you wish to rectify the issue, that could be a right place to start. Best regards. Materialscientist (talk) 10:24, 20 August 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Alexandra Patskevich 2021.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

File:Puck Oversloot 1932.jpg as cover picture
Hi Materialscientist, thanks for uploading this 1932 image of Puck Oversloot, which has made me wonder for a few days. It is without any doubt a beautiful and interesting picture, but I asked myself if in this form it is appropriate to be used as "cover picture" to represent Puck Oversloot on Wikipedia? And if the original shouldn't be restored as well? Now I made up my mind about this second question and restored the original with some more original data, see File:Huishouden. De beroemde Nederlandse zwemster Puck Oversloot strijkt haar jurk, 1932.jpg.
As to the first question, so far in the past years there hasn't been an alternative. Only this week I uploaded a series of early pictures from Dutch top female swimmers. I found one portrait, see File:Marie Oversloot, 1932.jpg which might be more appropriate, but this leaks quality. I guess I will do another search here, to try to find a more appropriate one. -- Mdd (talk) 10:08, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)
