"by name by year" categories
Hello, MasterRus21thCentury. I noticed that you created some categories with names like "<Foo> by name by year". For example, you created Category:Royalty of Japan by name by year and Category:Glider pilots by name by year. The ones I looked at should have the sort criteria in the other order, namely "by year by name". That is because when you look at the subcategories, the thing that is different should be the last thing mentioned in the category name.
Here's an example of what I mean. Under Category:Lugers from Poland by name by year there are the following subcategories:
- Category:Anna Bryk by year
- Category:Klaudia Domaradzka by year
- Category:Nikola Domowicz by year
- Category:Natalia Jamróz by year
- Category:Ewa Kuls-Kusyk by year
- Category:Dominika Piwkowska by year
- Category:Natalia Wojtusciszyn by year
The thing that is different in those category names is the name of the person. Because of that, the category should be called Category:Lugers from Poland by year by name -- the name is specified last.
The other thing about these categories is that they are not meta categories. They look like it, but they are not. Meta categories have subcategories that group multiple things with the same characteristic. These subcategories don't do that, because each of them is for one individual person and not for multiple people with the same name. The "by name" categories are tricky because some of them are metacats and some are not. An example of one that is a metacat is Category:Hotels by name. That is a metacat because each of the subcategories is for all hotels with the indicated name. Most "by name" categories that refer to the name of a person are not metacats.
If you would like more info about this, feel free to ask. In the meantime, please rename the categories you created and use {{CatCat}} instead of {{MetaCat}}. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 20:27, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- I see that I left you a message last year about other categories with this same issue, and those categories have not been corrected, either. Please, if you have any questions about it, don't hesitate to ask so that we can get these corrected. Thanks again. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:29, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, this work takes up a lot of my time on Wikimedia Commons and I myself need help here, since it is necessary to unload categories that have more than 100 files, which is extremely important for personalities.
- However, the question of changing to by year by name is very rhetorical - such matters are worth discussing on the Wikimedia Commons forum and manual edits will take a very long time. Therefore, in the distribution of personalities over the years, bots are very necessary, which will remove the main work from many participants. MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 20:37, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- Could you at least name them correctly in the future? The edits don't have to be manual, because there is an automated process that is documented at User:CommonsDelinker/commands/documentation. -- Auntof6 (talk) 06:29, 2 June 2023 (UTC)
- I've just by chance become aware of this issue. I've recently been involved in creating some of these new categories. I'm assuming this is a convention of which I've been unaware? We are depopulating that large categories into "by county by year by name", problem is some of them are already named "country by name by year", and switching now will look wonky. Are we switching? Best, Iamthecheese44 (talk) 16:56, 2 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Iamthecheese44: One reason this matters is that both kinds of names could exist. Example:
- Category:People by religion by country has subcats with names like "People of Latvia by religion" and "People of Nepal by religion". The thing that is different between the subcat names is the country, so "country" is mentioned last in the parent cat name.
- Category:People by country by religion has subcats like "Jains by country" and "Muslims by country". The thing that is different between the subcat names is the religion, so "religion" is mentioned last in the parent cat name.
- There would be similar considerations with categories that have three things mentioned in the name, such as "by country by year by name", but I hope the example explains it well enough. -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:28, 2 June 2023 (UTC)
- I see, that makes sense. However, wouldn't "by name by year" be correct because we see the people's names first and then they are divided by year? Genuinely asking to see if I'm understanding correctly. ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 23:59, 2 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Iamthecheese44: If you're talking about categories like the lugers from Poland that I used as an example above, the thing that's different among those subcats is the name, so it should be "by year by name". A category called "Lugers from Poland by name by year" could have subcats named something like "Lugers from Poland in 2022 by name", "Lugers from Poland in 2023 by name", etc. So it's not the order in which the things are given in the subcat names, it's which thing is different among them. -- Auntof6 (talk) 00:27, 3 June 2023 (UTC)

- I ask you again: when you create any more of these, will you please name them correctly? You just created Category:Tennis players from China by name by year, which is named incorrectly. -- Auntof6 (talk) 23:13, 2 June 2023 (UTC)
- Could you at least name them correctly in the future? The edits don't have to be manual, because there is an automated process that is documented at User:CommonsDelinker/commands/documentation. -- Auntof6 (talk) 06:29, 2 June 2023 (UTC)
And you're still creating these incorrectly. They should be named "by year by name", and they are not metacats. Please set these up correctly so that I don't have to get someone else involved. Thank you. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:59, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- @My question is - is it possible to rename the list of groups using the bot without the possibility? Renaming groups will take much more time than creating them. MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 06:01, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Please clarify so I can be sure what you're asking:
- It's categories that need to be renamed, not a list of groups. Categories can be renamed using the process I linked above. It takes a while for requested renames to happen, but it's easier than renaming them manually when there are a lot to do. You can see examples of rename requests at User talk:CommonsDelinker/commands.
- I'm not sure what you mean by "without the possibility".
- Did that answer your question? -- Auntof6 (talk) 06:10, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Auntof6 Currently put up for renaming the categories associated with Russian athletes. The question has been answered. MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 06:39, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

Переименование галерей
А где вы нашли правило, что в названиях галерей пишется несколько языков? В правилах Commons:Galleries#Naming_conventions сказано For general subjects and ones not tied to any specific language, the name most likely to be searched for (usually English) should be used, то есть используем английский в случае, если нельзя один язык использовать. Anatoliy 🇺🇦 (talk) 17:14, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading File:Панорама Белза.JPG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Панорама Белза.JPG]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Moving of "Postage stamp" to "stamp" categories
Hi. I couldn't help noticing that you've reverting my edits creating "postage stamp" categories and recreating previously deleted "stamp" categories in the process. I'd appreciate it if stopped doing that. I've been in the process of moving images of postage stamps over to "postage stamp" categories for a while now because "stamps" is ambiguous and your just getting in the way of me doing it. I'd appreciate it if you stopped with the edits since at the end day of the day the images are of postage stamps, not stamps. So "postage stamp" categories are the correct place for them, not ones for stamps. Which again is totally ambiguous and doesn't properly convey what the images are of. Thanks. Adamant1 (talk) 03:32, 24 September 2023 (UTC)
Revert to images of stamps
I'd appreciate it if you stopped reverting my edits to images of postage stamps. Like I said, I'm in the process of moving images of postage stamps to more descriptive "postage stamp" categories after a couple of discussions where it was determined the term "stamps" is to ambiguous and the categories should be used for postage stamps, Cinderella stamps, and the like. If you one there's Commons:Categories for discussion/2022/06/Category:Philately. Although there's others. So please stop reverting me. Thanks. Adamant1 (talk) 18:10, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Adamant1 Unfortunately, I want to bring everything to a single form Stamps by year, which are available in thousands of Wikimedia Commons categories. MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 18:15, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not really sure what your talking about or how you can't do that if there's "postage stamp" by year categories. So can you explain exactly what your trying to do better? Otherwise I just don't understand what you mean by wanting to bring everything to a single stamps by year category. It's like there can't be "stamps by year" categories in conjunction with "postage stamp by year" ones. I actually do that in cases where there's multiple types of stamps, but it's super redundant and pointless in cases where we just have image of postage stamps and not say Cinderella or ink stamps for that country and year. Like in this case there's no point in having "1992 stamps of Armenia" if there's only images of postage stamps for that year and not ones of other kinds of stamps along with it. Otherwise your just creating pointless redundancy. Thanks. --Adamant1 (talk) 18:19, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
Moving stamps
Seriously, get the message and stop moving images of postage stamps to stamp categories when I've already moved them. I told you it's already been discussed multiple times and I'm sick of having to remove stuff just because you refuse to get the point. Adamant1 (talk) 22:36, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

Re: File:Siergiej_Mironow.jpg
Hello, it was actually a pic from the very first batch of the Senate works nominated for deletion that prompted and enabled this cooperation. It started afterwards. But I think it is fine. Thanks. Boston9 (talk) 05:09, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Boston9 Thank you! I would like to ask you to replace all {{Cc-by-sa-3.0-pl}} templates with {{Polish Senate partnership}}, based on VRTS permissions after 2013 from the Office of the Polish Senate. In addition, I plan to upload visits of Russian politicians to Poland to Wikimedia Commons (for example, some of the high-resolution photographs of Putin’s visit in 2002, available on the website 20.kremlin.ru, have already been re-uploaded).
