The picture you link is also a lovely photo, perhaps it could be a valued image in the scope of "Thomas Edison High School of Technology, building"? Also, the picture I nominated is more widely used. Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on 1 May 2023, 23:59:59 UTC.

   Comment It seems to me that if something is notable enough to have a wikipedia article it would be notable enough to have a VI (and some things that don't have wikipedia articles could be VI worthy too). Looking at the VI guidelines, the suggestions for building VI's is significantly more restrictive than animals and plants, maybe they should be revisited. Beltway in Silver Spring

CDP boundary follows the Beltway, so the road is properly classified as being in BOTH Forest Glen and Silver Spring etc. Famartin (talk) 14:29, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

One of those odd Montgomery County things is that Forest Glen is also considered part of Silver Spring. On commons you can see Category:Forest Glen, Maryland links under Category:Outer Silver Spring, Maryland Because of this, I made

Category:Roads in Forest Glen, Maryland a sub-category of

Category:Roads in Silver Spring, Maryland. I don't think having a photo be in a category and it's immediate parent is necessary or useful so I removed it from the Silver Spring category. My categorizations are based on CDPs (like Wikipedia is), which makes Forest Glen and Four Corners independent from Silver Spring. While I understand why others think otherwise, Wikipedia articles are mostly CDP based, for better or worse. Famartin (talk) 20:11, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

I would expect the hierarchy to be more like "Roads in Silver Spring, MD" having a sub-cat for "Roads in Silver Spring, Maryland (CDP)" as well as sub-cats for White Oak, Four corners, etc. instead of eliminating "Roads in Silver Spring, MD" entirely, but whatever works. Only somewhat related, are you happy with Category:Streets in Silver Spring, Maryland? it seems odd to have it be totally separate from Roads... and it has a weird mix of streets in the CDP and sub-cats for areas outside the CDP. I had thought of doing a "umbrella cat" for roads with the CDP section as a subcat with the others, but I'm not as familiar with what is considered "outer Silver Spring". So, I guess if you wanted to recreate it as an umbrella cat, that's fine. Regarding the streets cat, I guess you could place that in the umbrella cat too. Mount Van Hoevenberg West?

I think this may be an error on your part. I can find no reference to a name change, and in fact the trail has never been "Mount Van Hoevenberg". Its "Van Hoevenberg". This source https://theadventuresatlas.com/mt-van-hoevenberg-trail/ says that the Mount Van Hoevenberg West and East trails are both on their namesake mountain and completely unrelated to the Van Hoevenberg Trail here. Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like.
