Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

At one point all information made available on alternativet.dk, the website of the political party w:Alternativet was in the public domain. Since Christian Poll no longer seems to be associated with Alternativet, and the original website no longer is available, I have no objection against the deletion of this image. thickness of paint

Hi, I was looking at File:CW_Eckersberg,_Moses_lader_Det_Røde_Hav_træde_tilbage_og_Faraos_hær_oversvømmes,_1815,_KMS69,_Statens_Museum_for_Kunst.jpg and other similar uploads of yours and the file lists a horizontal depth dimension. Horizontal depth is mostly used for sculptures and 3D objects, so it is a bit confusing when applied to a flat painting. I know there are artists that use very thick layers of paint, but 14 cm? This might be a thickness of the frame (?) but that is usually not considered part of the painting, as it can be replaced. The link to the website does not list depths of the painting. Hi, yes there is major problem with the metadata delivered by the provider here, thank you so much for pointing this out.

The depth-data is downloaded directly from the provider's API, and used to generate the metadata for the images.

In your example the metadata is generated from this URL https://api.smk.dk/api/v1/art/?object_number=KMS69,

The dimension node contains this:

Depth of 14 centimeters, 140 milimeters

That must be including the frame.

I agree that this is a major problem, that needs fixing.

De sidste store overførsler kom vist i maj, så hvordan kan man se, om I har digitaliseret flere kunstværker siden da? Hvis du ikke har planer om en ny maskinel overførsel, så ville en liste, vi andre også kunne bruge, være et fint redskab. Som vi ved, kommer der mere materiale i public domain til 1. januar. Hej @Rsteen, der er et timestamp, og jeg har lavet en enkelt differentiel overførsel i efteråret, så jeg har kode til det, men jeg har mistet modet lidt efter min kategoriserings"fiasko", som nogle kaldte det, i efteråret.

Hej Kim. Tak for svar. Du skal ikke være bekymret over det med kategorierne, de bliver lige så stille rettet til hen ad vejen. Det vigtigste er alle de gode kunstværker, der er kommet på Commons, til glæde for vore mange brugere.

Programlinjen til api'en ser spændende ud, men jeg mangler viden til at kunne sætte den ind i en sammenhæng, hvor den virker. Kunne du give et eksempel?

og så har jeg lige lagt dette billede op hvor kunstneren netop er blevet "død nok", billedet var i medierne sidste år pga. vandalisme (ikke rindalisme :-) )

Jeg arbejder på at lave masseupload af de nye billeder siden oktober 2024, men hvis du uploader så vil de ikke blive uploadet som dubletter da commons benytter sig af en MD5 checksum for at identificere dubletter, dette knækker naturligvis hvis man redigerer originalbillederne fra SMK :-) Kim Bach (talk) 06:21, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
