Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 16:21, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Jitcji. I noticed that File:Changhua County flag.png has been tagged for speedy deletion since 22 December 2009 due to lack of proper source information. I did a bit of digging around, and (though I can't confirm this, not being an admin on zh.wikipedia) it appears that you're the user who originally uploaded it to zh.wikipedia and probably also the one who drew it based on this emblem from this page on the Changhua County website. As such, I thought I'd first try asking you to clarify the source and the copyright status of the image before simply deleting it.
I tried to check the Changhua County website for information on the copyright status of the emblem, but could not find anything definitive (although the fact that I can't read Chinese may well have caused me to miss something obvious). If such information cannot be found, or if the design turns out to be non-free, the image will still have to be deleted from Commons. However, it seems to me at least possible that either
- the emblem might've been explicitly released into the public domain by Changhua County, and I simply missed where it said so, or
- the exact appearance of the flag and/or the emblem might be specified in a local law, which could be construed as making it PD-ROC-exempt.
If you could find a reference indicating that the flag/emblem design is in fact PD, we might be able to keep it after all.
(Ps. If you could also find an official reference documenting the colors of the flag, that would help in verifying that the flag is correct. The reason I'm pointing this out is that I tried searching Google for changhua county flag, and the only non-Wikimedia reference I could find shows a different background color.)
Sorry for taking your time with this, and thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

File:Flag of Taoyuan County.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

I have brought you to the Administrator's Noticeboard regarding your edit warring without consensus or sources. Fry1989 eh? 19:29, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
Hello, please don't edit-war at File:Republic of China National Emblem.svg. When there is a content dispute, please use the file talk page, or better yet, engage editors you are disputing with on their talk pages. Thank you, FASTILY 00:22, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
"Consensus"
[edit]Do you have any clue what "consensus" means? You seem to be under the impression it means "whatever version has been here the longest", when what it actually means is "what is the most agreed-upon version by a broad group of users". Fry1989 eh? 18:33, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
- Well you clearly don't. I should also say that the moment you mimic someone else, you've lost the debate because it shows you have to strong arguments of your own. Fry1989 eh? 20:06, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
Please do not recreate deleted content

Pay attention to licensing
|
Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content: images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.
File:Emblem of Miaoli County.svg seems to be free (or it would be proposed for deletion), but it was identified as having a wrong license. Usually, it is because a public domain image is tagged with a free license, or because the stated source or other information is not sufficient to prove the selected tag is correct. Please verify that you applied the correct license tag for this file. If you believe this file has the correct license, please explain why on the file discussion page.
|
The reason given by the user who added this tag is: This file seems not to match Template:PD-ROC-exempt
