Regarding the perspective, any correction will lead to loss of sharpness. The arc at the right side is vertical, and the plaque is far from a square itself. The translation is added after your comment, I wait for you to enjoy it, it was a common Russian language written in XIX century alphabet, with some letters carved in ancient handwritten style. Thanks for the idea. --PereslavlFoto (talk) 23:22, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
- Excellent and very interesting, thank you ! Maybe I'll translate in french. I continue to think that a crop would help, anyway it is your choice. I really enjoy to know now the rich history of this church.--Jebulon (talk) 23:42, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Difficultés ?
[edit]Bonjour Jebulon,
Cela m'a redonné confiance.
Bien cordialement.

[edit]Responded to you here. Long story short - it's a partially-finished restoration that, while probably fine, I can't quite document up to my minimum Commons standard (dates for everyone, or, at the least, old enough that PD-70 can be proven using oldest person lists. If you're interested in some of the things I'm not nominating at Commons, en:User:Adam_Cuerden#2015 and below show all my en-wiki FPs. I tend to get about 3-4 a week there when I'm not in one of my down cycles, so Commons will likely never have all of them featured. Of course, a few of them are en-wiki only, some with more reason than others (I'm very, very cautious about Commons files.) Adam Cuerden (talk) 20:12, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Adam Cuerden, sorry for late answer. Very interesting links and files, thanks for let me know. Why are you so cautious about "Commons" files ?--Jebulon (talk) 21:23, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

Could I beg a favour?
[edit]Crisco 1492 taught nme how to get images from Gallica, but the technique only works up to about 4000px by 6000px.
http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b52505240g/f1.zoom.r=massenet.langEN and, to a lesser extent, http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b6909503m/f1.zoom.r=thais%20massenet.langFR are a little too big for me to get using that method. Could you help? Adam Cuerden (talk) 19:03, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Crisco 1492: @Adam Cuerden: As for me, I know only one method. Open the file at the biggest size possible (maximum zoom), and take as several screenshots as needed, and stitch them together carefuly (sometimes at X1600, pixel over pixel). I work with GIMP. Maybe there is another or easier way to do, but I don't know (or don't understand) the process). Mine is difficult and needs to be careful and patient, but it is sure. And full-size guaranteed!--Jebulon (talk) 19:38, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Category for images
[edit]Hi Jebulon. I see you take a lot of images with A550. A small hint for you: There's a category for images taken with this camera: Category:Taken with Sony DSLR-A550. Feel free to use it at will. :) SkywalkerPL (talk) 17:25, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind words about the video.
[edit]in fact, it is the first one, we are still discussing, how we will finally do it, because we have another 250 from this project in the queue. Because of my former profession, my tendency goes to a complete work (intro/outro/credits) but I am aware of the shortness of the main subject. The very first idea was, just presenting this video sequences without any additional informations. Maybe I should do both.
The freezing is due to a mistake of mine, because we worked one day with FullHD, but only 25 fps. I hope, the takes from day 2 on are better with 1920x1080 and 50fps.
But your suggestion gives me the idea of additionally use of some still-pictures from the front and the back. I will try. But in fact, we now have all these pictures from this eight days work (about 15.000 single shots for focus stacking) and it will cost me more than half a year to finish all this raw material. Besides two classes I have to give at the University of Vienna and Wikiversity the next semester with apprx. 60 students.
But it was more than worth to realize this project, the chance to handle all of these objects directly with this incredible haptic feeling, not somehow behind some glass vitrines. It was a great thing for all of us. With a perfect team of six peoples from Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Italy, all of them - exept me - without any experiences with studio works. Now they are all able to do this independently, at least the photographic works, not the postprocessing. The next project - actually, I hope not this year - is waiting for us. Minerals.
The main goal was, to make a GLAM-project with small collections, not with big institutions. And do teach Wikipedians, how to organize a project by themselves, or beeing a technical advisor for some days for those groups, who are interesting in doing something similar. And too, an important point is, that the chapters from Austria and Germany can borrow the technical things to whomever, who will do something like this. --Hubertl 22:17, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Fisheye projection and its benefits, or when not to use rectilinear stitching
[edit]As per my nominee, where i had feeling you are ad-hog oppositor to fisheye projections. I have more feeling you don't understand projections. I put you this site to read some quick course. Also keep in mind, what they say for rectilinear projections, which are mostly done on our Commons nominees, when many photos are stitched into matrix. The biger matrix is, and biger angle, less acceptable situation is. As they say, 120° is limit. So, my fisheye creates around 180°. Here we have something in this direction, stitching wide angle matrix into rectilinear, as mentioned was around 120° and result is not so good, left and right thirds are so-so. Sometimes is better to have distortion with nice dynamical lines, than try to stitch wide angle matrix and killing photo with distortion corrections, which to often become ugly in corners, and balls, circles become sharp elipses or elipsoides.
You can learn something, or you can keep ad-hog opposing to fisheye lens, they are built for closed spaces for capturing wide angles.
Up to you, regards. --Mile (talk) 19:05, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Re this: Sorry I didn't get back to that discussion; I didn't think it would go well and, as it turns out, I was right.
I do appreciate your suggestion. However, before nominating it I had already done a fair amount of perspective correction and CA removal. I didn't see that I could do any more without adversely affecting the image.
I thought you at least deserved a belated response. Daniel Case (talk) 02:31, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi Jebulon, I'm happy that you found useful information about the stained-glass window in Antwerp's cathedral. I tried during a couple of days and was not successful! Now, I ask your help for some information about this depiction of Europe and the Bull, in Pius Clementine Museum. I did not ask for the audio guide when I went there and that was a big mistake! From a friend of Livioadronico, it seems to be a Roman copy of an earlier Greek original, but I have no guarantees. Greetings from rainy Lisbon, Alvesgaspar (talk) 19:13, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

Ancien domaine : coat of arms of Lorraine. Nouveau domaine : coat of arms of House of Lorraine. Baronnet (talk) 22:55, 25 October 2015 (UTC)
The University busts.
[edit]hi Jebulon, right now I have finished 65 of 156 busts. The most important thing for me is, because the light situation is so difficult, that nobody really wants to make this pictures. Therefore, these pictures are probably the best you can get. But in fact, it´s not really difficult when you work with tripod, it just needs a lot of concentration, because you can not rely on the autofocus due to the low light. The most difficulties are the very smooth surfaces or the dark bronce busts when there is little light at the same time. Most of them are single shots exept some in the corners, they needed HDR. I tried once with 6 Flashes, but it doesn´t work really when you are alone with no assistance. So I do most of them with long time exposure, I just have to get the best available daylight, which changes most of the time. Right now I have finished the summer series, I hope I will have some good light (with low sun) in winter for the rest. But it´s cold there. The only good thing is, nobody is disturbing me, I can take any time I need, just very few people are passing by. I think I will need another half year, maybe more, to get the rest. I never can do more then 15 busts per session. It needs really a long time to understand them, every artist needs a different approach. This is what I can say after the first 6 sessions. The most interesting point is, that every time, when I go through the arcades, all the busts looks different to me than the session before. --Hubertl 00:05, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Hubertl, thanks for message. This is very interesting. As you can see, I'm very interested by historical and artistic pictures, taken inside (of museums or so). I know how it is difficult, and I know how it "changes" with the light. The difficulty in museums is that tripods are mostly not allowed, neither flashes of course. Well, I don't vote for every of your pictures, but be sure I always have an admirative look to them (some disagreements are normal). Again, I advice you to publish a book, when you'll have taken the whole series. Is the University Arkadenhof open to the public ? I'd be happy to have a look the next time I'll go to Vienna (one of my favorite european cities) !! Best wishes for your winter campaign !--Jebulon (talk) 10:56, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you, yes, the arcades are open to the public, usualy until 8 pm. I have made a new series of tripod pictures now from the Museum of Military History, Vienna, I uploaded the first photos yesterday, all from the first hall, the hall of fame. Pretty difficult again, because the light is extremely yellowish/orange. Usualy it is strictly forbidden to use tripods there, but because I´m a "official Wikipedia lecturer" at the University of Vienna, we have a excursion there with our students from our actual lecture "Propaganda until the First World War" at the beginning of every semester, highly official and highly scientific, of course. ;-) Therefore I don´t have to hide my equipment during the excursion. When you will come to Vienna, tell me before. --Hubertl 11:12, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
