Image Tagging Image:Gustav Mahler Wien.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Gustav Mahler Wien.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Canon soft images
[edit]Hi, I noticed in your Yellowstone geyser shot you were worried about soft images. I have heard that it is a slightly soft lens (I just bought one myself and will be trying it out soon) so that may be it but here's one thing I've noticed on my Canon 20D. Pressing the shutter button produces a small amount of shake. You should take 2 pics of the same thing, one by pressing manually, the other on timer, see if you get a difference. I did. I ended up buying one of these but I'm not sure if there's one for the 400D.
Let me know if you see a difference (or learn more info, I get soft pics too)! --JaGa 07:52, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for your answer, but unfortunately I have the problem with my pictures also when choosing 1/500s or so. So I'm afraid your suggestion is not the solution. But generally you're absoluty right, I also try to avoid pressing the button while using a tripod, and the timer did a good job so far.
- Concerning the 24-105mm lens I'd be very interested in your tests with your new lens. --Flicka 16:23, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Explination of levels
[edit]I see that you use Photoshop Elements so I'm not sure how similar it is to regular Photoshop but I think the Levels feature is the same. Basically, the Levels command is a much more powerful version of brightness/contrast and shadow/highlight. I just started using it so I'm not expert but I've had excellent results so far. With careful tweaking you can tone down the harsh contrast you get with bright sunlight or increase the contrast when the lighting is rather flat. It takes a little getting used to though, at first I just ignored it because it seemed too complicated.
Yes, my night heron picture is taken with a canon 70-300 IS USM. I used the have the 70-300 III but I needed a tripod to get decent sharpness. The Image Stabilization on the new lens has made a world of difference. After learning more about the lenses I wish I had bought one of the L series so I could use the 2x and 1.4x extenders, they aren't compatible with the 70-300 IS USM. There's some limitations with the extenders (they increase the effective f-stop) so you may want to do some research before you decide. Basically, I'd make sure you get an IS lens if you're planning on doing wildlife photography and something from the L series if you're serious about photography. Calibas 20:57, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
- I'm afraid the 70-200 mmm IS lens is beyond the amount I can spend for a new lens at the moment. And I'm not sure anymore if I really should spend all the money for a L lens. I bought the 24-105 mm IS L lens last April, and in my opinion, there is no "wow" if I compare the results to the pictures taken by the kit lens. But 24 - 105 mmm (that means about 40 mmm - 170 mm on my Canon 400D) is a very good range when your on your way on vacation, so I still think it was a good - but expencive - choice. But I really like the IS, so maybe the 70-300 mm IS lens might be the right thing for me.
- On Photohops Elements you can also work with different levels, but I'm not sure if it's possible to do the things you described. But I'll take my time this weekend and try to find it out. --Flicka 06:27, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- Here's a tutorial on levels, hope this helps: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/levels.htm Calibas 19:55, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- Now I see what you mean. Sorry, I thought that "levels" means different layers (?). For example I sometimes try to cut out the sky to make the highlights of the sky darker, serparately from the other parts of the picture. So I have one orginal picture and a second one above it where I only have the sky. Adjusting the levels, how it's described on the tutorial, is the first thing I do when I start to work on the picture. But in my opinion, when the contrast is too high, you don't get better results. But it works good when the contrast is too low.
- You're right, the levels command doesn't work so well with too high a contrast. I think there's fancy ways of doing it using different layers and channels but that's beyond my scope of knowledge. Calibas 00:50, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, there are fancy ways of improving pictures. It's still a wonder to me that I'm able now to change an even absolutly flat and boring picture into something that is - though not great - at least acceptable and good enough to have a look at it in small print version. Two years ago I would have deleted it. Oh, and by the way: I changed my mind about the new lens. There is a Canon cash back promotion at the moment, so I decided to have a very very early Christmas and bought the 70-200 mm Canon IS lens :-). It's just a decision for saving much money. ;-) --Flicka 18:29, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

the english caption reads:
Great Fountain Geyser in Yellowstone Nationalpark bei Sonnenuntergang.
Well, this is not english, especially at the end. Is this pure german or a weird mix?--Berru 21:03, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- You're right, "bei Sonnenuntergang" is definitely german. But I think it's correct now. --Flicka 20:40, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Flicka. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Flicka~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

Yellowstonepark Landscape
[edit]Hallo Flicka,
