Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:26, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Notification about possible deletion
[edit]Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Copyright violations
[edit]
Hello Fkbowen.
You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful. This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. |

Please note that the personal attack you left on your talk page, and this is not on on this project. If you are unable to stay civil with our editors, you may find your account blocked. russavia (talk) 01:22, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Copyright status: File:Lumpkins Stadium.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Lumpkins Stadium.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Deleted content
[edit]
- use in any work, regardless of content
- creation of derivative works
- commercial use
- free distribution
See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.
Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.Yours sincerely, Green Giant (talk) 22:04, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

File tagging File:A&M-Commerce Football Helmet.gif
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:A&M-Commerce Football Helmet.gif. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:A&M-Commerce Football Helmet.gif ) and the above demanded information in your request. |
Michael Barera (talk) 04:18, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry, Fkbowen, but this appears to be the official Lions helmet design, which can't be kept on Wikimedia Commons because it isn't free content (there is no fair use on Commons). It is perfectly fine to keep it on the English Wikipedia, which does permit fair use, as it really only will be used in one article. All the best! Michael Barera (talk) 04:21, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
Well their current helmet has a different logo that looks similar to this one but is slightly different and also they never have the lion head logo on the left side of the helmet generally they put the player's jersey number on the left side.
- Fair enough, but it still isn't a free image, is it? As I mentioned before, English Wikipedia does permit fair use, so it should be uploaded there if you'd like to use it in the encyclopedia. Thanks for all your contributions! Michael Barera (talk) 04:43, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
Alright I understand but how do you upload the image to the English Wikipedia without using Wikimedia Commons? Fabian Bowen
- Click here, select the file from your computer, give it a name ("File:A&M-Commerce Football Helmet.gif" would be fine), give it a brief description ("TAMUC football helmet" would be fine), and then be sure to select the "This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use" option under "Step 3". It should be pretty much self explanatory from there. If you need any help, just let me know. Take care! Michael Barera (talk) 00:02, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
Alright, Thank you
File:Texas A&M University–Commerce March 2015 06 (Alumni Center).jpg and your new photo of the Alumni Center
[edit]Thanks for that new photo of the Alumni Center, Fkbowen. However, you should upload it as a new file, with its own description, date, and (most importantly) your name in the credit line. Just go through the UploadWizard, but if you like you can use my file as a template (but be sure to change the dates and use a license that doesn't have my name on it if you do). If you like, I'd be more than happy to help you with uploading your new file. I'm going to go ahead and revert your edit to my photo now (which should remain as my photo, even if it is effectively superseded by a newer, better file, as in this case). Please don't hesitate to ask me if you have any questions or concerns. All the best! Michael Barera (talk) 02:13, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
PS: Once you upload your new photo of the Alumni Center as a separate file, you should use it in place of my photo on the Texas A&M University–Commerce Wikipedia article; it certainly would be an improvement. Michael Barera (talk) 02:20, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
A cookie for you!
[edit]Thanks for your recent photo of the Alumni Center. It looks great on the A&M-Commerce Wikipedia article! By the way, this message was made with WikiLove.
