Passport Photos

Hi Fitindia. I thought I'd message as I'm unable to find clear information on this. I'm planning to use an old passport photo in a Wikipedia article I've expanded. I'm aware that in the US, passport photos are considered as created by Gov. employees, so are ineligible for copyright protection, and are under PD. The page "Category:Passports" also definitively states "Passport photos, while taken by a third party, are taken to government specifications and have no artistic merit that would transfer the copyright to the person operating the shutter.". File deletion

Hi, when the files of Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_uploaded_by_Danielkwong~commonswiki were deleted, the local wiki didn't removed them and there are many red links in the articles (e.g. zh:岗顶站's infobox). No permission since

Isn't the {{No permission since}} meant for new uploads? Five days is very little for old uploads, as there normally is no reason to believe a user will log in that often (or even watch their e-mail, especially as they may not use their main address for their Wikimedia account). I see you deleted Anni Blomqvist.jpg. My understanding is that the copyright owner in principle is willing to license it freely, but too old to work the OTRS process.

I understand that Commons needs proper paperwork, which may be impossible to get in this case – but the five days are much too little, and a deletion can scare away contributors not used to Commons processes.

@LPfi: Was just checking and the file Anni Blomqvist.jpg was tagged no permission on August 29, 2020 and was deleted on September 6, 2020, That's 7 days as prescribed and not 5 days as mentioned above. Please let me know if there is a ticket number will restore. And yes I can understand that this will make new users shy away from uploading images but this is something that needs a broader consensus by the community. I am the original uploader. I'm also the original creator of that book. This is a PDF version of my book whose text is hosted on Wikibooks. I fixed some bad typos on this file, nothing that requires a step forward from version 1.3 to version 1.4. Unfortunately I can't do these things by myself because this PDF's size is greater than 100MB so I can't use the "upload a new version of this file" function, because the new Wizard can't handle file replacing. So I have to disturb admins.

Quick question

Hi again User:Fitindia. Hope you're well! I've got a bit of a problem – my GA article (Leslie Goonewardene) is set to appear on Wikipedia's main page tomorrow, but it seems that a whole swathe of images (constituting much of the page) have just been deleted by another admin as there hasn't been OTRS permission for 30 days. Having spoken to the author, who himself took the photos, it seems that OTRS stopped corresponding to him over 2 weeks ago, after which he's sent 3 emails to no response. Hey fitindia, Amit ( the author ) who's value is "עמית חיו" which is edited by me Korner2020 (talk) 09:34, 15 September 2020 (UTC) in hebrew wikipedia. sent an Email to OTRS. He recieved a ticket number: Ticket#: 2020091110003216 regarding the following images:[reply]

Hello there! I see Commons:Deletion requests/Images in Category:i-mode characters uploaded by User:٢١٩.١٧٤.١٥٨.٢٢٥~commonswiki was closed as deleted, but some files still remain. The only reason I noticed is these files (such as File:TRON 9-9121.png) still have the {{Delete}} tag on the page, so I'm guessing those at least should be removed? Fitindia deletes pictures using false arguments

Hi! I recently recieved a surprising email from user Fitindia with the following text:

"Hello Garmanhmc, the following content you uploaded is not free and therefore has been or will soon be deleted:"

This pictures were taken from the website: http://www.hugorosalescruz.com that has the following license disclaimer:

"El contenido de este sitio se puede usar y compartir bajo la siguiente licencia: Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) Atribución-CompartirIgual 4.0 Internacional (CC BY-SA 4.0)"

These pictures are under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International agreement.

as I can see this file has a lively delete and undelete history. ;-) There is now, however, an OTRS ticket in which the depicted person credibly claims that the photo is a selfie, and that he wishes to publish it under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International. There is also a person article about him in the English language Wikipedia. Can you please restore the file?

Automatic messages

Hello,
Regarding this automatic message, I mention that the deleted file was an image derived from an existing one at commons.
As an very old user and OTRS volunteer, I don't think I deserved to be sent an automatic message to read a policy. Consider that this automatic message, especially in this case is offensive by its formalism. A custom message such as "later was found that the license of source file was incorrect" would have been sufficient.
I hope that my request will create a warmer atmosphere among Wikipedia contributors than through formal messages, even if that requires more attention to those to whom these messages are addressed. Cheers. --Turbojet (talk) 16:41, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
