Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Yeah, I'll shoot you a message if I ever need something clarified. As of now I've uploaded only 5 images. I noticed it takes quite a bit of time to upload, but that might just be me focusing too hard on the categories and data structures. I've also looked around and voted on quality and featured photo nominees. If there's anything else interesting to do around here, let me know! I enjoy contributing to projects like this. As far as things to do, there's always a ton of categorization that needs to happen. Categories are the primary way people can discover media here. You did a good job with your categories. I added the species to the gull, and removed a few redundant ones (if there's already an "X in New York City", we don't also need the category for "New York City" because the former is a subcategory of it, for example). Birds are reasonably organized, but there are a lot of messy NYC categories. There's also structured data, which is still releatively new. On the photography end of things, there are monthly photo challenges worth checking out, and valued images to go along with QIC and FPC. And, of course, finding media to use in Wikipedia articles. There are tools to help this built into the Wikipedia Android app. As you travel around NYC, you can use something like WikiShootMe to identify places nearby that need images. The Commons Android app has a similar feature. Jim.henderson is another local wikiphotographer who may be able to say more about those. And then there's all the stuff in the community portal. Not intending to overwhelm you -- got to be careful when asking if there are interesting things to do around here. :) BTW WikiNYC has a Discord server if that's something you're into. — Rhododendrites ^talk |  20:31, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

• Hi Gedalya. If you take a look through Rhododendrites images in NY and the surrounds you'll see the composition and quality needed for FP. You may struggle with the Coolpix camera I'm afraid as we all zoom in and look for high definition - the two tests being a sharp eye and that we can see individual feathers. As for wildlife photography tips (none for NY!) , take a look at my 'magazines' on my user page where you will find 100 tips. Very good if you cannot sleep at night.   Hi! Thanks for reaching out, always cool when a professional takes the time to help out. I'll definitely check out your magazine for tips. I have a book that's a general digital photography course but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I submitted some photos for quality image nomination, and I'm waiting for someone to review them atm. All the photos I've uploaded have been from 2021 because I'm super unorganized and still haven't sorted my 2022 photos yet. I actually quite like my coolpix camera, but my main gripe with it is that the autofocus isn't that great. Explodingcreepsr (talk) 11:37, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

• My old Coolpix P190 is one of my excuses for my pictures seldom being as good as yours or the others who have chimed in here. Its main virtue is GPS, which was a somewhat common feature back in the day. Minor illness is keeping me out of B&H where I intend to buy something smaller and fancier like one of the Micro Four Thirds or APS-C cameras where you can change lenses. The worst disadvantage of my Coolpix is the lack of RAW format; I understand your more modern and high-class Coolpix has that ability. I bought a MFT a couple months ago but its Wifi method of geotagging was clumsy and difficult and I brought it back. GPS is important because I do mostly buildings, and sometimes I don't know where I am. Not a great problem except when it means I don't know where the building was. Anyway I hope to see you at one of our NYC chapter monthly meetings; maybe we should assemble some kind of cameras and categories meeting. Jim.henderson (talk) 16:03, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

  Yeah, the P950 can take RAWs, and editing those is something I've been trying to get into (without much success as of yet). I actually usually have geotagging off, but I will probably turn it back on at some point. I really like the p950 except for the autofocus which I think is pretty lacking, but I understand that given the extremely high zoom it really doesn't have much to work with. • Retouch and workflow are something I must study. More sophisticated photographers pay by the year for Photoshop and Lightroom; most think the competing open source programs are inadequate. I have mostly stayed with the primitive built in file hander and retoucher in Windows 10. I did pay the one time price for Photoshop Elements but the LR workflow part has been difficult for my stiff old mind. Drat; my mind of forty years ago would have snapped it up instantly. Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. Anyway, mostly I apply the PS retouch part when Windoze Photo Edit is inadequate. When I get RAW pictures I'll have to go almost entirely to PSE. Is that neccecary? Via "How to choose your scope", "Think of scope as being akin to a Commons Category, or to the generic title of a Gallery page. If you wish, you can make use of an existing category - or alternatively write your own scope." Explodingcreepsr (talk) 05:44, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

Standard practice is to link a Commons category whenever possible, for the convenience of the reviewers (in case there are other images in scope) and the users. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:36, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

Fair enough. I don't believe there is a Commons category or gallery for this, as it is a relatively new and pretty rare genetic disorder. The images or other third party material in this article are included in the article’s Creative Commons license, unless indicated otherwise in a credit line to the material." • I created Snijders Blok-Campeau syndrome. Sometimes it's easiest to just create the category. A category of one is not ideal, but defensible if it's likely there will be more files in there in the future. I don't see what reason there would be for deletion here. If it's appropriate for an open access journal, it should be ok here (any reputable journal would be looking for things like IRB approvals, etc. that would require consent for publishing photos like this). — Rhododendrites ^talk |  15:16, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
