Do not forget categories
[edit]Thanks for your nice images. Please add categories to them, so that they can be found more easily. Please note also that scientific names must be written in italic, for instance Quercus acuta. Frédéric (talk) 09:01, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- Actually I have added all the categories and am keeping an eye on hers and other's pages as well. The linking of galleries and categories is not clear enough on the Upload page. WayneRay (talk) 13:42, 13 August 2008 (UTC)WayneRay
Category update
[edit]None of your created categories link to anything and no one will see them to use them. I have put all or most of them in an higher order Category, perhaps you can take a look at them and see what it is you are not doing, cheers WayneRay (talk) 18:11, 29 September 2008 (UTC)WayneRay
- Same thing for October? Why can't you be more careful? Allimages have to be linked to a gallery or a category please WayneRay (talk) 17:32, 29 October 2008 (UTC)WayneRay
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:10, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
