Mosfilm image - Wikimedia Commons has a specific scope
[edit]
Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote.
If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. Thank you for your understanding. Sdrtirs (talk) 02:31, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- I did not understand which of the various images you are referring to here. If it is the Mosfilms image, I obtained it from one of the film flyers I made when lecturing on film at Stanford U back in the 1980's, from an article discussing Tarkovsky's political protest. It is impossible to understand this very significant deed of Tarkovsky in relation to Kruschev and the state without it. See use in the WP:Ivan's Childhood article. Is there any way to get the image, which was used by Tarkovsky as a form of public protest, similar to lesser protests that got other major Soviet figures sent to a Siberian gulag? - For an image fall into public domain because being old, it must pass the conditions explained in {{PD-old}}. See more information in Commons:Licensing. Regards, Sdrtirs (talk) 15:18, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- The Mosfilm image is pretty widespread, including being given to me to reproduce in advertising their films in the 80's. Do you know where to get a version that is permitted to be used at Wiki? I am completely new to this. Thnx. EricDiesel (talk) 19:19, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

If you want to use at en.wiki, you can upload them as fair use there. Wikimedia Commons doesn't allow fair use images and only accepts free images. Regards, Sdrtirs (talk) 19:23, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Why did you recently add images to this category? Please read the description: it is a category for media relating to the book. I have already uploaded all the free images from the book that I know of, so unless we get something else (e.g. a video of Dennett talking about the book; I have already tried for the one on YouTube and it's a no go), I don't see how anything else will be added to it. - My mistake, this was the first contribution, I was learning how the buttons worked, and when I typed in Darwin, it automatically autofilled it into this category. The irony of the parallel of the old cartoon content with the new image, as a cartoon when placed next to the original, might stay in the erroneously place category for levity, however, if you think so. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

- I am new here, and I could not find the licence when I did this. Is there a simplified instruction page? EricDiesel (talk) 20:36, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
