Hello - thank you for providing images to the wikimedia commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the commons should be useful to all users of wikimedia projects - this is possible only if the images can be found by other people. To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should either place the images on topic pages (galleries) or put the images directly into a category, or do both. Which of those possibilities is preferred is however a matter of debate, see here.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There is a large number of completely unsorted images on the commons right now, see Commons:Really unused. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do! Thank you. -- Duesentrieb(?!) 11:18, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'll do that! / Elinnea 11:25, 3 September 2005 (UTC)

Elinnea 00:01, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
Swedish Wikipedia
[edit]Hi. Saw that you've just uploaded Image:Fig 1 Trepan.jpg. If the image came from Swedish wikipedia then don't forget to add the version history for that image. Cheers /Lokal Profil 22:12, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
/Lokal Profil 00:49, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Cecilsr.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Cecilsr.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Tips

Portraits
[edit]Hej, why do you crop the faces so narrow? Usually portraits have more space around, otherwise they look too much as a picture from a passport where the faces are just trapped perfectly as in the prison of the frame. Especially the swedish Wikipedia has huge thumbnails so theres no reason why not to care a bit about the esthetical issuses. Also, the images become quite unsharp and noisy in the full size and just look worse than they actually are, not to talk about ugly faces the people made just in the moment the picture was taken. But this is just my opinion in the eye of a photographer... --Prolineserver (talk) 21:20, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- I find this kind of narrow cropped pictures more usable in the dictionary, like in infoboxes and such, it's kind of annoying when the infobox becomes very long and the persons face is just like a 1/10 of the picture or something like that. I think it looks better with just the face, to portray the stomach, the knees and the feet etc of a person doesn't seem that important to me. Some times there is a picture where there other items that can disturb the viewer, like a part of somebody elses nose/hand on the side, so I try to cropp that kind of stuff out, and just leave the important parts. But i'll definitely think about your advise the next time I cropp a picture and leave a little more space around the person. / Elinnea (talk) 06:37, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- What a strange portrait it is having knees and feet in the picture ;-) I actually had something like File:Royal_Wedding_Stockholm_2010-Konserthuset-Prince_Edward,_Earl_of_Wessex.jpg or File:Royal Wedding Stockholm 2010-Konserthuset-Per Unckel.jpg in mind. And I personally think that it is quite ok to remove disturbing objects in the background. --Prolineserver (talk) 07:41, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 20:15, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Stina Nilsson 2014-05-22 cropped.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Stina Nilsson 2014-05-22 cropped.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

I am writing a local history book about my area in south Herefordshire. With your permission I would like to use your image of the death of William Rufus by de Neuville.
If you agree, how should I attribute you? Preferably not the URL.
