Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT (talk) 05:47, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Inappropriate edit summary--shit, lube, and anal sex
I have no objections if you wish to politely discuss category usage with me, but this choice of edit summary and use of profanity directed towards me is inappropriate. Please, do not do this again. Thanks. -- Cirt (talk) 20:12, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- Seriously. "Bullshit" is profanity, but your categorizing an image with a dildo, some KY jelly, and a picture of Santorum as "Santorum neologism-related images" is somehow appropriate? It's not just bullshit, it's mixed up with a frothy dose of irony. Drmies (talk) 21:09, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- Have a little more care and politeness, please, before making spurious accusations. It was the artist's intent and inspiration, not mine, to associate his artwork as related to the santorum neologism. -- Cirt (talk) 21:13, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- Your own politeness is nothing but hollow form, Cirt. That this is related to shit and lube after anal sex must be your own interpretation: the title does not include that whatsoever, nor does the page from which you got it. Or did the author tell you this on Gmail Chat? Do you have any other reliable reference that connects "artist's intent and inspiration" to the neologism? FWIW, I don't see any shit or frothy bubbles in the image, so either your imagination is running wild with you or I'm blind. Of course, if you find me a citation from a reliable source, you are welcome to reinstate the category. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 21:28, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- The artist directly links to and indicates both on his artist webpage and on Flickr that his artwork is associated with the santorum neologism and with "spreadingsantorum" — the artist even tagged it as such himself, on Flickr. -- Cirt (talk) 21:32, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- Ah, well, a tag on Flickr, yes. Sorry, of course. That probably ought to be enough for the media repository of the Wikimedia Foundation--someone's tag on Flickr. Go ahead, admin Cirt, and reinstate it. Just don't be surprised that at some point you're a Santorum-neologism inspired community of one. Drmies (talk) 21:43, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- You appear to be ignoring the other note by the artist at the artist's webpage, in addition to the tag on Flickr. -- Cirt (talk) 04:38, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- Cirt, I told you to stick it back if you like. I wouldn't want to enforce standards deemed to be too strict. But you appear to be ignoring everything else, Cirt. It's not about the tag. Drmies (talk) 13:51, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Delete vote
Can you take a look at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Barnstar for I Never Cry.gif again? I hope you'll reconsider that delete vote. This is an image I value highly, just as Anna Frodesiak and many other editors value their non-educational personal use images. Thanks for your time. INeverCry 21:42, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

re Some bacon for you
Drmies,
Thanks so much for your appreciation of my admin service on Wikimedia Commons !
And for the tasty bacon !
Lately what I like to do is cook up some bacon, and then make french toast in the same pan for some extra flavor.
Hope you are well,

- Oh and aren't you British? So "bitter" for you is a beer--for me it means Angostura bitters. You know I almost picked up a bitter at the store the other day but decided my experiment wasn't worth $5, so I got a $12 Delirium Tremens instead. Also, good point: it's almost 5 o'clock. Hammer time! All the best, and merry Christmas. Drmies (talk) 22:18, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
- And all the best to you too. Rodhullandemu (talk) 22:21, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Can you please take a look at en:Deborah Sinclair? I know we have talked about Geo Swan's BLP editing in the past, but this reaches a new low. Geo Swan is a personal friend of Joshua Boyle. Deborah Sinclair is a social worker who appeared as an expert witness just days ago in Joshua Boyle's trial for assault, sexual assault, and unlawful confinement. This BLP only exists so that Geo Swan can attack her credibility and minimize what was said in her testimony. Thanks. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 18:49, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
- Well, I don't know. I have a feeling she'd scrape by in terms of notability, and that it's an unfair representation needs to be established. I think I see what you mean but it's just not such an obvious case. Drmies (talk) 21:28, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for trimming it down to a neutral state. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 22:58, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Hello, Drmies-

Illegality
Regarding your rename request, any entry into Canada at some point other than a designated border crossing is an illegal one, per Canadian law, much like the law of the US and many other countries. I actually heard the Mountie shown in the other pictures say as much. Yes, those migrants did apply for asylum, which puts the status of their act in abeyance until that request is resolved, but if the asylum were to be denied they would be returned back to the US immediately.
