Concerns re a large number of 3-D object uploads.
[edit]I have raised concerns regarding a huge number of your uploads from Princeton at Commons:Village pump/Copyright. I am alerting you to this so that you have the opportunity to defend yourself on the relevant discussion thread, and attempt to prove that these images are in the public domain.
You have described hundreds of uploads of furniture, sculpture, ceramics, and other three-dimensional objects as being faithful reproductions of two-dimensional objects, which they are not. These images are modern studio photographs taken by the Museum, and as such, unlike a faithful reproduction of a two-dimensional painting or drawing where the artist died long ago enough; they are still firmly in copyright. The Museum website does not appear to indicate that it is okay to upload their images to Commons.
Furthermore, I noticed another worrying upload of a painting by Kay Sage where you claim that the artist's estate released her work into the public domain - what is the evidence to show that this is the case? This claim needs to be confirmed as otherwise, we have to assume it is not, and that its presence on Commons is unacceptable. I did notice that one of your files was already deleted at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Lachaise, Gaston, Floating Figure, 1927.jpg for reasoning that is equally applicable to all the three-dimensional objects you have uploaded as if they were two-dimensional objects. The objects themselves are certainly within public domain, so if you had photographed them yourself, you would be fine, but as they are professional photographs taken by the Museum photographer, we have a problem. Sadly, unless you can demonstrate that you have explicit permission from the copyright holders to do so, I think we will be left with no choice but to remove all images not actually showing 2-D works of art. Mabalu (talk) 17:47, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
- I see at Commons:Undeletion_requests/Archive/2016-01#File:Gordon_J._Keddie.jpg_Not_from_web.2C_direct_from_creator that you were not able to navigate the copyright release process even for a piece of art for which you claim to own copyright. There is an explanation of how to document copyright ownership in case of a conflict at Commons:Email_templates#Declaration_of_consent_for_all_inquiries, and this is what was requested of you. You can still have the file restored if you document copyright ownership.
- Do you have any reason to believe that the photographer of those Princeton artifacts has released copyright? Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:49, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
Notification about possible deletion
[edit]Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

File tagging File:I Saw Three Cities (Sage).jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:I Saw Three Cities (Sage).jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:I Saw Three Cities (Sage).jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

- If you visit the Princeton University Art Museum website you can see that they consider it to be in the public domain. However, previous documentation communicated by the museum to OTRS on other similar works was deemed insufficient, and I am unwilling to pursue it further at this time. In light of that I think it best the painting be deleted until such time as a more formal relationship can be established with the museum. Djkeddie (talk) 00:30, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm sorry to deliver the bad news, but Google Maps screenshots may not be used in commons, because the underlying data is copyrighted Google's data providers and the look-and-feel is owned by Google. You may instead freely use the same extents of OpenStreetMap. Best, --Enyavar (talk) 13:06, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
