Modern museum photographs of three-dimensional objects which are firmly under copyright. Princeton University Art Museum has not released the images with the appropriate copyright permission to authorise their presence on Commons. At least one of the uploader's files has already gone through deletion - see Commons:Deletion requests/File:Lachaise, Gaston, Floating Figure, 1927.jpg - in which it was noted that the museum had NOT authorised use of their material in this way. I have included some files where a frame is part of the image - if the image is cropped to remove the three-dimensional frame, then it would be fine as a two-dimensional work of art, but given the volume of material here, it all needs to be considered as a whole. I have cropped down (and not nominated) rectangular two-dimensional artworks where the frame was present, but nominated a couple where the artwork is contained in an unusually shaped frame - those ones may be able to be salvaged by someone with better cropping technology who can remove the frame, leaving the image isolated. However, I noticed some problematic 2D artwork such as works by Edward Hopper (d.1967) and a painting by Kay Sage with a claim that the artist's estate released her work into the public domain, but I see nothing to support that claim.

NB: The two files that are salvageable are File:1797, West, Benjamin, The Woman Clothed with the Sun Fleeth from the Persecution of the Dragon.jpg and File:1795, Prud'hon, Pierre-Paul, Nicolas Perchet.jpg - they just need a bit more creative cropping to take out the frame, but I don't have good enough editing software installed to do it properly. Per above - I've cropped out the frames out on these two files using work Photoshop, and uploaded the converted files over the formerly problematic files. I think both File:1797, West, Benjamin, The Woman Clothed with the Sun Fleeth from the Persecution of the Dragon.jpg and File:1795, Prud'hon, Pierre-Paul, Nicolas Perchet.jpg are now absolutely fine to keep on Commons. Have struck them out from the above list. Mabalu (talk) 18:11, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies for uploading these in error. It somehow didn't occur to me that photos of 3D objects would be treated differently from 2D. Lesson learned. I may continue to pursue working with the museum to allow these files to be uploaded with proper releases.Djkeddie (talk) 18:30, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Djkeddie! If you can get written permission from the Museum confirming that they are fine with these files being on Commons, (they may prefer that low resolution files be uploaded so as not to jeopardise their reproduction rights for print-quality, higher resolution images) then these may be all salvageable. But we do need clearance from the Museum/copyright holder. Mabalu (talk) 21:28, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
