User talk:Dinoguy2
Welcome!
Hello, Dinoguy2, and welcome to Wikimedia Commons. I hope you like it here and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- First steps - will tell you everything you need to know about how to upload, what licenses are OK and what information to include in your image summary
- Babel guide - Commons is truly international, here's how to handle some multilingual issues
- Commons FAQ - has some answers to common Commons questions
- The Community Portal - help us organise and improve our files
- A Gallery of your images - please correct any that are untagged or orphans (put them in a category)
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Commoner! If you haven't already done so, you might also want to open an account on a Wikipedia in your preferred language, or one of the other Wikimedia projects. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date. If you have any questions, drop a note on the village pump, the Help desk, or contact an administrator. I look forward to your contributions!
Many of the images you have uploaded may be derivative works, if the models or sculptures they depict are copyrighted. An example is Image:Vraptoramnh1.jpg, which states that you saw it at a travelling exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History, but does not explain whether that museum created the model or another did. Please provide source information for all of the models and sculptures explaining when they were created and what institution or individual created them. Please note that this does not apply to photographs of bones, skeletons, etc., as those are public domain objects. If you have any questions, please drop a note on my Wikipedia talk page. Image Tagging Image:Dave NGMC 91.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Dave NGMC 91.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 04:56, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:46, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Dinosauria categories
[edit]Hi Dinogy2
I am curios is to the sporadic/partial reorganization of the dinosaur categories you made today. As tit stands now a number of th e "Fossil xxx" cats are not linked to the cat tree for the Supercategory Fossils and you have left a number of categories essentially orphans. if you feel the category is not needed you should make it for deletion with a reason. If it is a category fora valid taxon with media it should be maintained.--Kevmin (talk) 02:09, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
PS when an image is superseded by another you can use the Delete template to have it deleted instead of just decategorizing the image.--Kevmin (talk) 02:14, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Compsognathus: File:Compysizes1.png
[edit]Hello Dinoguy2, and thank you for your fantastic work. I only wanted to point out that in your "comparing sizes" image "Compysizes1.png" you inadvertently introduced one misprint: The Paris specimen of Compsognathus is not identified by inventory number "MHNM CNJ 79". The correct inventory number is "MNHN CNJ 79". Indeed, MNHN stands for Muséum national d'histoire naturelle. I think the inventory number corresponding to the German specimen, shown in your image as "BSP AS I 563", is already correct as it is. Otherwise, would you kindly readjust your image so that readers can read this French identification initialism in its correct order? Thank you in advance... Regards, Kintaro (talk) 20:40, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hey, Dinoguy2, did you read the above message? could you please proceed to correct the name? Kintaro (talk) 01:25, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
- By the way, I just noticed that when you originally created the file, the French inventory number was correct in the image. Please find the description of this specimen in this official page from the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle website:
- (inventory number reads clearly "n° MNHN-F-CNJ79"... thus, MNHN... not MHNM...). Regards. Kintaro (talk) 01:46, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
- Done! (File:Compysizes1.png). Have a nice day. Kintaro (talk) 10:31, 10 December 2017 (UTC)
New Tyrannosaurus Rex diagram with " Scotty " proportions...
[edit]Hi, I am an Italian Wikipedia user and I have enjoyed your work on dinosaur diagrams. I kindly wanted to ask you if you could update them with the dimensions of the Tyrannosaurus Rex "Scotty", the largest and most massive ever found. "Scotty" is roughly one meter longer than "Sue", so 13.3 meters long and weighed 8.8 tons. I would be very grateful if you could update the diagrams with the Tyrannosaurus Rex with the proportions of "Scotty" and not of "Sue". Also, if possible, you could add the "new discovery" of the tail to the Spinosaurus design. Thanks in advance Roberto d'Angiò (talk) 12:39, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
