Places of worship

[edit]

Given what you've been up to, I was wondering if there was anything you could add or improve at Places of worship in Seattle. No obligation, of course. - Jmabel ! talk 18:46, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

International Church of Cann.

[edit]

Sorry about that. Jeffrey Beall (talk) 19:51, 30 November 2023 (UTC).[reply]

No worries! Working on a big cleanup project related to religious buildings to remove duplicative categories and ensure photos are correctly categorized. Dclemens1971 (talk) 19:54, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Recent Washington State church stuff

[edit]

Thanks for a lot of good work. I've had a few things where I edited behind you, but mostly I agree with your edits. One thing though: when something was in Category:United Methodist churches in Washington (state) and has now closed, I don't think it should just have that replaced by Category:Former Methodist churches in Washington (state), because it loses the category connection to United Methodist. I haven't followed up on that thought, but you might want to. - Jmabel ! talk 17:24, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That's true. We could create a "Former United Methodist churches" category and nest it in both "Former Methodist" and "United Methodist" Dclemens1971 (talk) 17:25, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.
Also: be careful about referring to things as "former" when the were not "former" at the time of the photo: [1]. - Jmabel ! talk 17:29, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The categories and descriptions should be as accurate as possible. Dclemens1971 (talk) 17:35, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely, but a 2008 picture of a Methodist church is not a picture of a "former Methodist church" just because is no longer a Methodist church in 2024, any more than a 1933 photo of Franklin Delano Roosevelt is a picture of a dead man. - Jmabel ! talk 17:46, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
& here you managed to lose all connection to Methodism in the categories (I'll fix it). - Jmabel ! talk 17:31, 1 May 2024 (UTC) Similarly here. - Jmabel ! talk 17:34, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
File:Arthur Murray (W. Hastings Street) Vancouver 1960.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

How to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category

[edit]

When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with {{SD|C2}} if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available or {{SD|C1}} if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused. In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page, as you did at Category:Churches of the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota. ("C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion). Jmabel ! talk 04:04, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Similarly at Category:St. Jude the Apostle Church, which I only just found about 3 weeks after you blanked it. - Jmabel ! talk 05:22, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And Category:Montgomery (town), New York. - Jmabel ! talk 20:03, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jmabel Some of these I have entered the SD tag to delete, others I have not gotten to yet. I do some of these edits and all own-work uploads on my phone, and the Commons mobile interface is tricky to work with (and makes it harder to search for a pre-existing category, which is why I sometimes inadvertently create one that's unneeded). Dclemens1971 (talk) 20:07, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll try to stop notifying you on these. For what it's worth, there is a pretty good reason for preferring SD. If it's tagged with SD, it is immediately placed in a speedy-deletion category and there are a fair number of people looking at that category, so it is gone pretty quickly. If it's just blanked, it can be month or more till the techs run the Special:UncategorizedCategories report; then someone who is more focused on categorization might run across it (and if they are an admin, delete it). Meanwhile, it's a "blue link" so someone is likely to use it, and then it becomes much less clear how to clean it up. Plus we don't automatically know why it was emptied, so unless it is super-obvious we just have to go with "C2". - Jmabel ! talk 20:14, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not trying to make more work for the admins and I usually do get around to nominating them, but I'll try to do it sooner. Thanks! Dclemens1971 (talk) 20:21, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:YborNewPeaceChurchAug08.jpg

[edit]

Good day. I noticed you added text to my snapshot File:YborNewPeaceChurchAug08.jpg saying "Currently Trinity Anglican Church, part of the Anglican Church of North America's Diocese of Churches for the Sake of Others". Does "currently" in this case mean as of August 2008, when the photo was taken and uploaded, or August 2023, when you added the text? I'd appreciate clarification; and suggest saying something like "As of (date)" rather than "currently" in cases where it may not be obviously clear. Thanks much. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 00:18, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
