Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, Craig W. Englund!

Welcome to a scholar

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you're trying to dispute the authenticity of a painting, (darn, I ought to link to it) on the basis of your knowledge. Alas, anybody can impersonate an expert, so the evidence we use for disputes is published material. If you can link to a recognized scholarly Website or journal or somesuch that supports your position, including what you wrote for such a journal, then we've got something. Otherwise it's you against some dumb bozo who can just as happily accuse you of being the dumb bozo, and we've got nothing. Eventually, once you have established yourself among other editors as a serious, respectable contributor, it becomes easier, but that requires a high level of participation. Even then, any serious dispute requires respectable references. Jim.henderson (talk) 18:02, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[User:Jim.henderson|Jim.henderson] Thanks for the advice. I have addressed such issues in a reply to Jmabel's response to my inquiry. I really was only asking if Wikimedia Commons ever deletes files based on the inauthenticity of paintings depicted in postings. But since more is apparently expected before I even make such an actual request to delete a questionable file, I went ahead and provided verifiable, online sources which confirm that I am the authority on William Henry Hunt's watercolors, and have been such for at least 33 years. Sorry for the lack of modesty, but my qualifications are beyond dispute and greatly outweigh the apparent total lack of qualifications of the poster and the greatly lesser qualifications of the retail dealer which is trying to sell the painting in question. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Craig W. It is important to keep a cool head, especially when responding to comments against you or your edits. Personal attacks and disruptive comments only escalate a situation; please keep calm and remember that action can be taken against other parties if necessary. Please try to remain civil with your comments. Thanks!
