Welcome, Dear Filemover!
Hi ColonialGrid, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
- Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
- Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
- Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

DELETING MY FILES
Please remove your request, your wrong here and that is all there is too it. I was ALONE on a yacht delivery and you have no reason whatsoever, other then you total lack of ability to understand that after 30 years as a file producer it is simple to get a picture, of yourself ("selfie") with just about any device. I am exhausted already and now forced to wade through this BS explain how I operate as a user decided to just go through my contributions and call me a liar. --WPPilot (talk) 18:36, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Congratulations, Dear license reviewer
Hi ColonialGrid, thanks for your request for license reviewer status. The request has been closed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can now start reviewing files – please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Potential backlogs include Flickr review, Picasa review, Panoramio review, and files from other sources. You can use one of the following scripts by adding one of the lines to your common.js:
- importScript('User:ZooFari/licensereviewer.js'); // stable script for reviewing images from any kind of source OR
- importScript('User:Rillke/LicenseReview.js'); // contains also user notification when review fails, auto blacklist-check and auto-thank you message for Flickr-reviews.
You can also add {{User license reviewer}} to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! Jianhui67 talk★contribs 13:12, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

Greens logo
Hi ColonialGrid! I noticed you reverted my changes to the Australian Greens logo citing a policy about overwriting. Thank you for noticing my work however I put it back because I believe it is the official logo as per the website (I also volunteer with the Greens and see that logo far more often than the one with black text). Of course I am not trying to start an edit war or be unconstructive in any way, I would just like to seek some clarification about this policy. Is this wrong/not the right thing to do? I'm quite new here so I am not sure how every policy is supposed to work, but for future reference, should I perhaps rename the lime green version of the logo to a different name (e.g. "secondary logo") and use the correct colour scheme for the main logo used widely on Wikipedia? I would think this would save a lot of time (not having to individually change each instance of the logo). Thank you for your consideration and I hope you have a lovely day! Hshook (talk) 14:02, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- You should upload the new version as a new file, the old file is used in a variety of pages and is still of historic significance. We simply host media, but do not editorialise on what content Wikipedias should use, content issues are for Wikipedias; so here the age or currency of a version holds no weight, both are considered to be in COM:SCOPE. Generally speaking images that are vastly different should not be overwritten, but a new version should be uploaded; that is what you should do in this circumstance. ColonialGrid (talk) 14:08, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for your prompt reply. I have uploaded the secondary logo at AustralianGreensLogo_secondary.svg, leaving the official, well used logo at AustralianGreensLogo.svg. I think this solves the problem as existing links on other wikis show the official logo and the ambiguity as to which logo is official is no longer a factor. Thanks for your feedback :) Hshook (talk) 14:19, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
This is my own work and I have checked that I had add source information to the description page.--Billytanghh (talk) 15:54, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- Looks like a derivative work to me. You need to add credit to the images that you modified to create your own. ColonialGrid (talk) 15:55, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- Is that OK?--Billytanghh (talk) 17:25, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
Deleting Appietus Files
I have contacted the author of these pictures to provide a document to prove he handed me the rite to publish these, will provide documentations to that effect to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org.Flixtey (talk) 15:20, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
- Brilliant, this is exactly what we need to prove the files are freely licenced. More info about emailing permissions can be found at COM:OTRS. ColonialGrid (talk) 10:43, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
En anglais UK 1968.jpg
Received your concerning message File tagging File:En anglais UK 1968.jpg - That it would indeed be necessary to delete. I master badly the English language, I have difficulty to put the images in "Fair Use". Nevertheless it looks like that worked with File:En anglais, cover album UK, 1968.jpg that I put in En anglais. But t-il there no errors in contents? For example: I felt obliged to put the link source (Discogs) while in reality it is about a scan made by myself. As for other compartments …? Thank you very much for beginning of your time to correct my errors. Cordially Lézard (talk) 16:09, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry, but Commons can only host freely licenced media, and the image you uploaded does not appear to be freely licenced. If I understand you correctly, you want to have it here under fair use, but Commons does not have any fair use provisions (see COM:FAIRUSE). If you want to use the image in an article, you should check if the Wikipedia you are editing accepts fair use, and if so, upload it to that local Wikipedia. Again, sorry. - Sorry, I only speak English, so do not understand fully your post. However, if you are questioning why I tagged File:Umie 01.jpg, it's because it's a derivative work. ColonialGrid (talk) 17:35, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
File:Tablero alternativo UBI ya instalado.JPG and File:Tablero R9 destrozado.jpg
Dear ColonialGrid If you don't speak Spanish, you can not understand in the photo of discussion it is showing the MOL number of polymer with which the article is made. Before proposing stupid things, you should learn other languages and thus refrain from proposing unnecessary things. - If you made a derivative work of another image, you need to provide what that image was; if the original is still under copyright we cannot host your version/crop of it. Please provide a link to, or describe where you got the original image, when it was made, and who made it. ColonialGrid (talk) 07:52, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
Deletion of Llallawavis and another images
Hi, I noticed that you recently nominated for deletion a number of images that I've uploaded. I've appreciate a notification before to start the deletions, but well, I want to note that the gallery of Deviantart where these images are is mine [1], if the problem are the licenses I can modified them. I hope you can help me with this. Cheers, --Rextron (talk) 09:19, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Rextron: I hope I haven't caused offence, but it's always best to protect rights holders per the COM:PRP when there is doubt about copyright, and as the DeviantArt page has CC-BY-NC-SA, the images must be treated deleted as they have an incompatible licence (our licence policy needs images to be free for commercial use and the most restrictive licence should be followed when in doubt). There are a couple of things you can do here, the first is to follow the procedures at COM:OTRS, but this may take a while. The other (probably easier) option is to change the licence on the DeviantArt page for the image to remove the NC restriction from the CC licence, then requesting the image be undeleted at Commons:Undeletion requests. ColonialGrid (talk) 13:07, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
- Ok, I understand that I must be more careful with the licenses, I've changed the licenses of images thata I've uploaded to WikiCommons and added a note in the description in Deviantart. The only thing is that I uploaded a photograph (file:Titanoboa_vertebrae.jpg) and I can't find it, is not in my contributions in Commons and also I can't find the deletion request... --Rextron (talk) 07:31, 25 May 2015 (UTC)--Rextron (talk) 07:31, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry @Rextron: , but the comment isn't enough of a release; Commons can only host images that can be used for commercial purposes. Please either remove the NC restriction, or request the files be deleted. After you decide what you want to do, ask Hedwig in Washington to undelete File:Titanoboa vertebrae.jpg as well. Regards, ColonialGrid (talk) 08:08, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
- Ok, I removed the "non-commercial" from the comments of the images, and in the license the use of the image is totally free, with the condition of cite the source and share-alike (the license is CC 3.0). I hope be enough. The issue of the photograph is already resolved.--Rextron (talk) 22:32, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry for the initial confusion, but given the different usernames I couldn't see a link; at least if you didn't want the image here I'd be looking after your interest! My main concern about the NC restriction, was that you understand that images hosted here cannot have a NC restriction and that you're ok with that. Seems you are. I'm glad this is sorted out and sorry again. Also, thanks for contributing the awesome picture! ColonialGrid (talk) 02:12, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

Concern about your account
I'm sorry that I have to bring this to you. But I have some concerns that you are evading a ban either here on Commons or English Wikipedia with this username.
If we look at Special:CentralAuth/ColonialGrid we will see that you only registered in 4 November 2014. Your first edits to English Wikipedia demonstrate an intricate knowledge of coding and the like. Amongst your first edits on Commons demonstrated clear knowledge of how to find ones uploads, even though your first upload didn't occur until 8 November 2014.
You also show a keen interest in Commons/Wikipolitics. And have quite the knowledge on things spanning back years.
Do you care to disclose who you are? 5.39.91.37 02:21, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
P.S. I will ping some checkusers Elcobbola, INeverCry, Jameslwoodward, Krd, Magog the Ogre, Martin H., Tiptoety, Trijnstel so that they are aware.
- I have never been blocked or banned, or under any form of sanctions or edit restrictions (such as 1RR or topic bans). I would happily discuss any previous editing over email, but due to privacy, not 'on wiki'. ColonialGrid (talk) 03:51, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
- Do you really want to talk with someone who required an anonymizer service to bring this up to your talk page? --Denniss (talk) 07:45, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
- No, sorry I don't wish to discuss anything with the IP. My offer was to a CU if they wished to persue this. ColonialGrid (talk) 09:08, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
While I frankly don't believe this is deserving of a response, I offer one in case ColonialGrid has concerns. Per COM:RFCU, "Valid reasons for running a check include vandalism where a block of the underlying IP or IP range is needed, disruptive sockpuppetry, vote-stacking, and similar disruption where the technical evidence from running a check would prevent or reduce further disruption to Wikimedia projects." I do not see that any evidence of disruptive use of multiple accounts has been offered. Conversely, there can be numerous legitimate reasons that new accounts emerge with an existing knowledge of wiki mechanics and issues about which we needn't speculate in the aforementioned absence of disruption. Эlcobbola talk 14:52, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comments Эlcobbola. As offered earlier, if questions regarding previous editing do arise, I will be happy to answer questions from a CU over email. ColonialGrid (talk) 15:20, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Renaming request.
"Jeepomotive" is not a standard English or German word, and, apparently, can only be found a handful of times; the original uploader is clearly under the impression that it is. He is also under the impression, apparently, that the US Coast Guard ran special railroads along the beach sand, that the liberation of the Philippines occurred in 1940, and so forth; look and see if the quality of the early forms of the German article suggest sound research skills. . Wikipedia is not the place for OR, and neologisms are the worst sort of original work. Anmccaff (talk) 03:13, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
- I declined it because the image was in use on a page de:Jeepomotive, that means that it does make sense in at least one language, which is all our file naming conventions require. This is not Wiki, this is Commons, we have a different COM:SCOPE and different policies (including no prohibition on OR, look at the myriad disputes about flags of maps for examples). Category:Neologisms are also fine (so long as the images are within COM:SCOPE). ColonialGrid (talk) 05:27, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
- It does not make sense in German; the (German) editor was convinced that it was an American English word at first, and then an Australian English, and so on. It is not a word, but word play, and there are no mentions of it in any reliable sources I have found past a couple early newspaper articles. This "word" only exists because of Wikipedia. Anmccaff (talk) 04:24, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- The fact that there is a page at de:Jeepomotive is/was enough for me to see that it has some usage in at least one language. ColonialGrid (talk) 06:45, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- Take a look through your favorite search engine; that's the only use of it in German. This is one editor with an imperfect grasp of English wordplay. Anmccaff (talk) 13:13, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
Making Amends
I saw your post where you said I seem "to be on Commons simply to advanced a vendetta against a couple of users who they feel are responsible for their block on ENWP" and from your point of view, I completely understand and see how you would reach that conclusion. In actuality, I was browsing through commons trying to determine how to get unbanned at enwp after a 6 month ban I still do not fully understand (other than that I will not ever refer to User:Beyond My Ken by his real name again), where even my talk page privileges remain revoked. When I saw that User:HJ Mitchell, the admin who insisted nobody unblock me without emailing arbcomm (I have emailed arbcomm several times without positive results) could possibly be stripped of his admin rights, I felt it my duty to explain the reason I believe he has a pattern of not using admin privileges properly. I also felt it worthy to note that Beyond My Ken's support could very well be interpreted as a liability considering this user's actions at enwiki (particlulary with en:WP:OWNER issues relating to en:Cooper Union & en:Cooper Union financial crisis and tuition protests). In terms of "socking at HJ Mitchell's RfDA ([4] [5])", there's really no excuse for my behavior and I am grateful I was not banned for this offense sloppily countering a similar move done by 95.145.45.64 . More constructively - how can I get unbanned at enwiki? Despite what has been accused of me, I have always tried acting in good faith as I have over the course of 8 years as a wikipedien. Ferociouslettuce (talk) 19:48, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
- I don't care why you did what you did, I simply wish for you to stop, and, as has been said to you on your talk page, failing to stop this behaviour will lead to a block here as well. As for your block on ENWP (you are blocked, not banned, there is a difference), it is pretty standard for talk page privileges to be removed from those who abuse them through repeated unblock requests that fail to deal with the underlying issue, trying to out someone is just icing on the cake. You say you don't understand, but realistically you just don't accept, you know why you have been blocked because a number of people have told you: disruptive editing and edit warring. Your editing here is just a continuation of this, as were all of your unblock requests, where you blame others and call it unfair, but never actually addressed the issues that others saw your editing to be disruptive; with an unblock request no one cares what anyone else did, they only care about what you did, and if you fail to address that by deflecting blame you will never be unblocked. My guess is that your emails to ArbCom have been along the same lines, hence, no action. To be successful in an unblock request you need to acknowledge this, say that you see how your editing was disruptive to others, and promise not to do it again. Continuing to blame others will not do you a single iota of good, on the contrary, it will significantly harm any small change you have of getting the block lifted. My recommendation to you, if you seriously want to be unblocked, is to:
- Accept that your editing was disruptive to the community;
- Never talk to or mention BMK again (impose an interaction ban on yourself);
- Drop any ill-feelings or vendetta you have against the admins who blocked you (which, it should be noted, was more than just HJ);
- Find a new, more neutral area of editing (ie, leave anything to do with Cooper Union alone);
- Find a new project (there are many Wikimedia projects around) and start doing quality non-controversial edits there.
- Then, after another six months or so of doing good work elsewhere, proving that you can be a cooperative member of the community, email ArbCom and ask for the next steps (this is essentially an expanded en:WP:STANDARDOFFER). I know this probably isn't what you want to hear, but you asked. Ultimately though, this is Commons, not ENWP and you shouldn't bring issues/dramas from ENWP here, if you want to help though, there's always something to do (there are a lot of files that need better categories: Category:Media needing categories. I noticed that you uploaded File:Matthew Guy.jpg, with a license of CC BY-SA 3.0 AU. However, I can't see any indication of this license in the website linked in the description. It's probably there, but would you please be able to point to it? Orthogonal1 (talk) 08:17, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Orthogonal1: sure, page 4 of the PDF ( http://www.planmelbourne.vic.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0016/131362/Plan-Melbourne-May-2014.pdf ) states "Unless indicated otherwise, this work is made available under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia licence." Your VFC installation method is deprecated
Hello ColonialGrid, we are aware that using the old installation method of VFC (via common.js, which you are using) may not work reliably anymore and can break other scripts as well. A detailed explanation can be found here. Important: To prevent problems please remove the old VFC installation code from your common.js and instead enable the VFC gadget in your preferences. Thanks! --VFC devs (q) 16:23, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
Tom Arthur (politician born 1883) has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Important message for file movers
A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
