File:Functions in Excel.PNG

It is my understanding that this file has been retained per the deletion discussion on its Talk page. If I am mistaken, please advise further. Brews ohare (talk) 14:26, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Brews.
I have been aware of this edit seconds after it was done and the fact there is my "touch" in it. So, there is little to worry about here.

Windows 1.0 logo is FAKE

Specifying a link to blogs.windows.com/windows/b/bloggingwindows/archive/2012/02/17/redesigning-the-windows-logo.aspx as a source just makes me LOL - looks like Sam Moreau or someone else at Microsoft decided to fix the initial logo missing problem by creating a fake logo which they now represent as an original Windows Logo! Really, history is a subject to change... -- Aaleksanyants (talk)

Could you remove your keep on that file please rather than try keeping a fake logo. If you realllyreally feel it should be kept then at least move it to a name that isn't misleading like Reimagined Windows logo. I think there may also be problems with using the Windows trademark on something not approved by Microsoft. Dmcq (talk) 12:36, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

I have raised Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard#Problematic_closure_of_deletion_request_after_one_day about the closure as I believe it was wrong to close after one day. Dmcq (talk) 13:18, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Free version of Ribbon

Could you generate another free version of the Ribbon image with several tabs? The one you uploaded isn't different enough to a regular toolbar to illustrate what's new and work as a replacement. Thanks for the nice work! Diego Moya (talk) 08:03, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Yes, why not? But there is a space of a day or two between me and any computer that can possibly do that. (Noticed the space of time between your message and my reply?) Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 05:05, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
File:Windows 8 pre-login.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hey, CL. Have you noticed that recently, you've been constantly removing Category:YouTube logos from File:Body painting - Videoplayer.jpg? I know that you are not actively engaged in editing Commons and you might have forgotten your previous reverts but it is high time you started talking to User:Tm. Fleet Command (talk) 00:25, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Wilco; thanks. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 01:28, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

I took a look at this file (I was looking into your contrib log) and saw your edits. If anybody else had done it, I'd say he or she was a vandal with a weird sense of humor. What made you think it is an "f"-shaped Adobe Flash logo? (Your last edit shows you no longer think it is the case.) Fleet Command (talk) 03:09, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi.
Actually, I am badly confused. When I looked at it, it did look like a small fancy white "f", like Flash Player (not Flash) logo, on a transparent background. This has never happened before. Overnight, it turned into a YouTube logo and I don't have a recollection of having erased my browser cache either.

Category discussion warning

Microsoft web logos has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

I am quite surprised to see that the 10 screenshots of the game Syberia are considered as a possible copyright violation. The OTRS permission to use these files with the CC-BY-SA 3.0 licence directly comes from the CEO of the publishing company Anuman Interactive. Of course the whole game (Syberia) is still copyrighted, but the 10 screenshots on Wikimedia are now under a free licence thanks to the permission. Please check the OTRS ticket to see that everything is regular. --ΛΦΠ (talk) 20:01, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi. You should probably talk about that with the involved admin; I have no permission for verifying OTRS or deleting the images. But I find your assertion about the CEO of Anuman giving out the images under CC-BY-SA 3.0 extremely odd. They earn a living out of the commercial status of these images.
I have previously encountered a lot of such images and I have always nominated them for deletion. So far, it has always been that some promoter gave the images or screenshots and said with a smile, "oh, do feel free to use them freely" but never explicitly mentioned CC-BY-SA 3.0. That's why they have always been deleted. But, the outcome of this deletion request pretty much depends on the strength of whatever evidence that is sent to OTRS.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 21:01, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
The permission given by Anuman's CEO and registered with the OTRS ticket was the following:

The last sentence written by Anuman's CEO Stéphane Longeard explicitly asserts that the licence of these images is CC-BY-SA 3.0, and he is of course aware of what it means. Everything is regular. It was really tough to obtain this agreement but this was my job to obtain free images for the article L'Amerzone on the French wikipedia. --ΛΦΠ (talk) 21:20, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi.
If that is indeed true, you needn't have panicked and come to my talk page or anything: An admin would have checked the OTRS and removed the copyvio tag. Have a nice day.

Files with OTRS permission

Hi Codename Lisa, the following files you put on my discussion page and request a deletion for were transferes from de.wp and have a OTRS permission tag. What is the real reason for deletion? I cannot check the files, beacuse the are deleted. Maybe the commons transfer fails and lost the OTRS template?

--Wdwd (talk) 10:18, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi.
You can talk to the deleting admin, User:Fastily. His deletion summary reads: "If you are the copyright holder/author and/or have authorization to upload the file, email COM:OTRS." This suggests that either he didn't find any actual OTRS ticket associated with them, or he did, checked them, discovered that they are invalid and deleted the file anyway. (Fastily is a very smart admin.)
I find it very hard to believe that a company has authorized the screenshots of his proprietary product to be published under a free license. I have no power to verify their OTRS tickets or delete them. It is what an admin does. I can only tag the suspects. But more than once my suspicions were justified: The uploader had simply sent an email by himself. (Whether it was a good faith blunder or an act of forgery, I do not judge.)

File:Windows 8 Start UI.svg

Hi, I don't understand your revert, what third time? --Rezonansowy (talk) 19:53, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi. There was two problems with your edit:
  1. File:Windows 8 Start UI.svg was already mentioned in {{Information}} table twice. Three times would have been overkill.
  2. Other version field is, why, for other versions. File:Windows 8 Start screen UI.png is not another version of File:Windows 8 Start UI.svg. It is the same image. Users can still find both via category, but linking to it is overkill.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 02:56, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but I can't agree with you, other versions field is for other versions of this same file, I don't see here any overkill. But I'm not a guru in this subject, you can ask COM:Help desk if you would. --Rezonansowy (talk) 13:28, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
Any person with a little bit of logic knows that four, three and even two links to the same thing very close together is abysmal, especially when what is linked is in the same category too. Plus, PNG editions of SVG files in Wikipedia are only not deleted only because they are necessary licensing evils; that means they are tolerated, not loved. So, keep them out of sight, the opposite of what you are doing.
For a person that is not a guru and is sorry, that's too much edit warring; and as for asking help desk, again an non-guru like you must do it. But even they tell you to stop reverting and seek dispute resolution. Fleet Command (talk) 08:43, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Windows Updated Family Tree

Hello there,
Thank you so much for your efforts on Windows Updated Family Tree. :)
I just have a request, would you please update that image with Windows 8.1 & Windows Server 2012 R2?
These should be added: RT (NT 6.3) / 8.1 (NT 6.3) / Server 2012 R2 (NT 6.3)
All of named updates released exactly on 18 October 2013.
I just need the complete and very updated of this image for my project in university, thanks. :)
Edit: If you need to find me, you can catch me at English Wikipedia, although regularly check this page, anyway, feel free to contact me. :)

It is done per rename policy, #2. Pleasure to be of help. If the punk continued to edit war, notify an admin. Fleet Command (talk) 04:01, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi. I am really uncomfortable with calling an image-reviewer with over 224156 edits a "punk"; altogether, I am uncomfortable with ad hominem arguments of any sort. If anything, you should call me a punk too for doing a blanket revert of Unidentified plants category as well (although, in my defense, it was by accident) or at least disregard his counter-revert. My objective of contacting you in person was speedy and amicable resolution of the situation, so that his concern ("And yet it is so similar [...]") is mitigated. I thank you for the speedy part, yet I fear you have sacrificed its benefit by failing to be amiable enough.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk)
Fine. I will tone it down from now on. But I feel you have gone long enough with your broad definition of good faith; it is high time you hear a counter-argument. I think User:Tm or any other user with over 224156 edits is expected to behave himself; not respond a blanket revert with another blanket revert; to realize that an argument like "And yet it is so similar to an desktop of Windows 8 that it was nominated in a DR" only explains the mistake and does not condone it.
You can ask me to tone it down and try to explain all this amicably, but I think you are going to have a very hard time doing so by constructing an illusion of grandeur from a user's number of edits when I can also see his battlefield mentality and number of blocks. Fleet Command (talk) 21:17, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you.--Steinsplitter (talk) 00:15, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

This approach here is a complete sham, I'll make a undeletion request. Here it is clearly visible that Fastily used a kind of bot..., at his own screenshots of course, he voted to keep. I wonder at all why did you do that? Unawareness it can not be. Your other Speedy (on this day) were not even converted into a DR but simply reverted. Please don't do this again.User: Perhelion09:01, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

Pay attention to copyright
File:Microsoft Windows logo (Pre-XP).svg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

stop this madness

We both know that using SVG is the party line for years, and that "other versions" isn't a kind of ersatz-category. If you want a category of some subset of copyright symbols create it, don't emulate it in other_versions= templates. –Be..anyone (talk) 18:56, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

@Be..anyone: Hi.
I am going to make it easy on you: Please propose your criteria. I am listening.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 19:03, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
Makes no sense, I'd do nothing based on BROKE and KISS, apart from preventing the fan of brown to test all colors as PNG. You apparently want something else, for starters a bigger set of symbols. But certainly not all in the category, there's far too much junk. If that's so, pick what you like, and put it into a "good" sub-category, or put the junk in a junk subcategory. After that you can put [[:category:good symbols]] in the other_versions row and be done with it. Nobody needs a brown PNG copyright symbol, the only problem is "don't bit the newbies", otherwise a {{Speedy}} could solve it. –Be..anyone (talk) 19:21, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
@Be..anyone: You are not proposing a criteria yet. So far, you've only requested "no brown". Your full criteria please.
Just a clarification: When I ask "your criteria", I am asking about your ideal version of Template:Other versions/Copyright and the conditions that you hold for adding or removing items to it.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 19:37, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
If you solve it as category, gallery, project page, or some media I don't care. If you insist on template it's SVG only not breaking my browser with overlong rows, anything making {{Information}} wider than 98% causes havoc. See my talk page (Sarang's entry) for two cases of havoc yesterday. –Be..anyone (talk) 19:40, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
@Be..anyone: Ah! So, you have overflow problem!? Well, that explains a lot... Please send me two screenshots: One from Template:Other versions/Copyright and one from an image transcluding the template. I'll fix stuff. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 20:05, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
"Fix" sounds ominous, if it's about Sarang's attempt to outsmart gallery mode="packed", oddly gallery gets the width right:
Selfdestructing category:test images. Don't try to fix anything, just look at it, it's an almost random width/zoom, I change it often, and other folks with other devices, and better or worse eyes, use other widths/zooms. –Be..anyone (talk) 04:03, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
@Be..anyone: Why the icons look so big in your shot? Is your screenshot from an old revision?
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 01:19, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
Quote with emphasis: better or worse eyes, Chrome 40.0.2214.94 m. Zoom 150% at width 1299 is 866*150/100, and 866 is more than SVGA 800. But meanwhile I've seen a case with 12 icons in the first row (blue suppressed its own display, therefore it had only 11 icons), and it didn't widen {{Information}}, maybe Sarang or you already fixed whatever was wrong. –Be..anyone (talk) 01:36, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
@Be..anyone: I can see the zoom from the text size. But I also looked carefully at the edges of icon for aliasing effect and it is non-existent. So, no, something else is wrong. I'll get to the bottom of it.
Meanwhile, since the overflow effect doesn't exist, I will just remove the brown image and move on... unless there is something else you need?
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 01:53, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

File:Debugging in Visual Studio.png

Why have you deleted a screenshot of Visual studio debugging a C# application? The screenshot clearly referenced Microsoft and the code shown was my own work. People post screenshots as a learning tool for other users now and in the future which is kind of the spirit of Wikipedia.

I asked Microsoft support and they said there were no issues posting screenshots of their software as long as it was not for commercial purposes and did not show copyright code.

Please can you therefore undo the deletion,

Question, is the copyright year correct? The installer may have said 2014, but the website claims copyright year 2016 for the software for the software version you've mentioned.

You may also want to use {{Self-photographed}}. 80.221.159.67 09:07, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

The image itself is first uploaded in 2015, so it cannot be 2016. I am examining the package right now and it is created in 2014-08-06. So, I think the date is spot on. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 09:38, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
