Multitasking
Have you considered having this bot localize things like "own work" and the headers while it's adding categories? I don't think it's that important but it would help cut down on bot edits to pages. Rocket000 (talk) 19:48, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
- If it doesn't hurt the main operation of the bot, it wouldn't hurt to do some cosmetic changes. If someone properly implements the cosmetic changes options in pywikipedia, I can enable it. Multichill (talk) 20:45, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Please delete this picture: It is not taken by myself. Thanks -- Haubi (talk) 05:15, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- This is a categorization robot, not a deletion robot. Take a look at Commons:Deletion requests. Multichill (talk) 12:03, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Commonshelper, subst:Unc and Categorization Bot
There is indeed one situation where the Bot marks media that were already categorized before: If subst:Unc and categories have been added during the same edit!
While this looks like a real stupid thing to do it can happen inadvertedly when Commonshelper is used - this tools automatically adds a UNC-line to uncatogorized media before handing over the modified file description to the commons upload mask. Even if now cats are added using the upload mask, the user might miss to remove the subst:unc because categories will displayed on preview. If the user is not of aware subst:Unc still being present and presses upload, he/she has indeed added categories and the UNC-template at the same time! Take a look at [1]. Note that I have uploaded 4 images in sequence and missed just this one. Of course it was my fault, but I have to admit it's easy to step into this trap.
I don't know if the Bot has a chance to detect this situation (should be possible if no previous edits exist) probably the better solution would be if the upload process could handle this in more transparent way, either remove subst:Unc when cats are added at upload or at least mark the apparent contradiction as warning, so the user gets visibly alerted before pressing the upload button. Rocks
Hello, today I cleaned up Category:Rocks. This category is for stones but not for Rock music. I found 30 (of 150) files that shows something concerning Rock music but were categorized to Category:Rocks by CategorizationBot.
Examples:
- File:DevianzRennes2009.jpg
- File:China crisis on whishful thinking.jpg
- File:Astonvilla 2007 Frederic Franchitti.jpg
So I suggest to check if it is possible to prevent CategorizationBot to categorize rock music files to Category Rocks. Thanks in advance --GeorgHH • talk 13:19, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- I think this edit solved it. Also the broken link at en:Category:French rock music groups wasn't helping. Please keep an eye on it, might be more missing or broken commonscat links. Multichill (talk) 12:01, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for quick help. --GeorgHH • talk 08:43, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
advice to categorise
oh thanks for nothing. Ive categorised a lot more images than ive uploaded and tart suggestions I ought to do so at midnight are unappreciated. Why dont you do it yourself if youre so impatient? Sandpiper (talk) 07:29, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- Do you realize you're talking to a bot? Multichill (talk) 08:31, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
File:60GB PlayStation 3.gif
Hello, I have added categories to the file. Can you delete the uncategorized tag now? Thanks.
- You can do it yourself but the image was later deleted so categorization is not a problem anymore. --MGA73 (talk) 10:08, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
General question
It is necessary to organize the category tree. It is the only way to understand the numerous categories and search. Jan Hamsik (talk) 20:34, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
- You are welcome to help fixing the category tree. We can not help you without a link. --MGA73 (talk) 10:08, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
leaving messages for bots
You've been leaving messages at User_talk:Flickr_upload_bot. It doesn't care! Secretlondon (talk) 00:17, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
- Perhaps not this bot. But not all bots should be skipped since bot operators often check the talkpage of their bot. --MGA73 (talk) 10:08, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
Why does this bot exist?
Is it because you have enough users at commons and you like scaring the new ones away? Werdna (talk) 03:20, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
- No, it is because we want to inform uploaders that their images are not categorized. The uploader should know what the photo shows and hopefully the uploader will help find the right category. If you have a suggestion to improve the message that the bot leaves to other users then you are welcome to propose a change. --MGA73 (talk) 10:08, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
(Biologo32 (talk) 02:56, 17 August 2010 (UTC))
