First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|Correct name}}
  • For more information read the full Deletion guidelines
(P.S. Would you like to provide feedback on this message?)

Bot flag granted

[edit]

Hello, I granted John Bot a bot flag. I'd just like to leave a small comment, if you don't mind me being fussy :). I am aware of the issues that happened a couple of weeks ago on en.wikipedia, between you and Giggy, with strong criticism towards the way you behaved with another user. As Mike pointed out on your bot request, the Commons people are usually mellow in the face of lost, clueless users who don't have any idea about what is a license or how to fill in the {{Information}} template. They need guidance, not to be shunned away. You may get a lot of people coming here to your talk page and ask what is missing on their images; you should patiently tell them what is missing them, over and over again.

I am totally assuming good faith in that you will be doing so. Cheers, Patrícia msg 10:12, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much and I will be Civil and patient as you asked. Compwhiz II(Talk)(Contribs) 11:45, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Giggy's RfB

[edit]

G'day

I just wanted to say a huge thanks for your support in my RfB. It just closed, and I'm now a bureaucrat. If you ever want to discuss any of my actions, as a 'crat, admin, or plain old user, please don't hesitate to leave a note on my talk page.

Cheers, giggy (:O) 10:42, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DDoS Image

[edit]

Hi, sorry for I'm a newbie to the methods of Wikipedia. I have seen on the Discussion-Page of your image, that image-corrections go somewhere else, so I am trying to reach you this way The Image I mean is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Stachledraht_DDos_Attack.svg Due to the fact that German is my mother-tongue, I've noticed that it should be called "Stacheldraht", with "el" in the middle. "Stacheldraht" is german for "Barbed wire" (feel free to verify my statement: see the link to German wikipedia on "Barbed_wire"-Article, or read the german<->english dictionary on http://dict.leo.org ). Thanks and have a nice day :)

What are you smoking. CWii(Talk|Contribs) 20:42, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
File:CWii.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Your bot uploaded this file and you are it's operator which is why I notified you. C3F2k (Questions, comments, complaints?) 15:34, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bot de-flagging notification

[edit]

Hi CWii/Archive 1, I'm writing to you because your bots John Bot (talk · contributions · Statistics · Recent activity · block log · User rights log · uploads · Global account information) and John Bot II (talk · contributions · Statistics · Recent activity · block log · User rights log · uploads · Global account information) are about to be de-flagged as a result of inactivity. If you'd like to keep those accounts flagged as bots, please speak up at Commons:Bots/Requests/de-flag#Discussion; otherwise, I'll remove the bot flag from them in a week from now (20 February 2014). Thanks for your understanding, odder (talk) 22:24, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ArchiveBot

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you have set up User:MiszaBot to archive your talk page. Unfortunately, the bot has stopped working, and given how its operator is inactive, it is unclear when/if this will fixed. For the time being, I have volunteered to operate a MiszaBot clone (running the exact same code). With that said, your input would be appreciated at Commons:Bots/Requests/ArchiveBot 1.
