It seems you forgot to add a proper license to these images. Please add them as soon as possible. Thank you ! --Denniss 14:07, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I forgot to add license tag to all images I uploaded yesterday. I'll fix it. Thanks. Bukvoed 16:30, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletion warning

[edit]

Thanks for your notice on the subject. I agree that the pictures are identical, so I don't suppose I have to do anything? / Habj 14:30, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think so. The phrasing "if you feel that this image should not be deleted, please go there to voice your opinion" sounds like if you don't react administrators will delete the image. Bukvoed 14:48, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your kindly noticing about the deletion requests of Marder images. I'm sorry to have put you to the toil of formalities for deletion requests. --Sciss 03:21, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh well, I think the word "toil" is a bit strong for a couple of edits :). Anyway, thanks for uploading images of armored fighting vehicles. By now, there are probably thousands of those images here so it's easy not to notice an identical one... and still many AFV-related articles lack photos... ok man... I only say "I'm Brazilian and I love my Country...and because that I very angry because dont have category in portuguse" ok? valeu americano lezo...

See, I am not enforcing english naming here. I am not in position to do it, I have no time for it, and I have little desire to enforce this or almost anything else. Hovewer I do have an opinion and my opinion is:

This site is intended to be a single common media repository for all wikimedia projects. To be effective as such, it absolutely must be easy to search. There are two main search methods: by using the search tool or by following the categories tree. Inconsistent naming (language is not the only problem here) effectively eliminates the former and orphan categories - the latter. Just for example... say you need some images for portuguese wikipedia. Say one of the images you need exists in commons. Say I was the uploader... and being an Israeli who loves his country (yes, not everybody who speaks english is American) I gave the image a hebrew name and placed it in an orphan category with hebrew name. Say other images you need were uploaded by other people who love their countries and used their languages. Will you ever find the images ? May be some of them, if you are lucky. An idiotic situation, isn't it ? A situation that should be avoided, right ? So... lets help each other... lets use the same categories system and the same naming system. Which, unless some magic solution will be found, is likely to include using a common language in many cases. The best candidate for that common language is english for a sole reason that just about every internet dweller knows at least a couple of english words. It may be unfair, it demands an extra effort from you and me but at least it is likely to work better the the aforementioned "patriotic games". Oh, and take a look: Commons:Language policy / Commons:Política de línguas. Have a nice day. Bukvoed 19:18, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Israeli Weapons

[edit]

Hi, I loved your pics of Israeli weapons. As you can see, I was also in Latrun and took some pictures, but I had lighting problems because of these half-tents. How did you solved these problems? MathKnight 17:12, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Yes, both of us visted the Independence Day exhibition... you could very well be one of those people I banged into trying to get to a position for shooting :). See, I'm not very experienced photographer and I don't have solutions except some things I'm sure you are familiar with. I just try to choose a position so that the object will be as brightly and uniformly lit as possible and so that to avoid shooting against very brightly lit background. In some cases "fill flash" mode, exposure compensation and spot metering help, although I don't use these very often. And I take as many pictures as the battery allows, so after the bad ones go to the recycle bin I still have something to keep :). As for the rest, the credit goes to Canon for their excellent G5. Imperial War Museum pictures

[edit]

Hello Bukvoed. I've noticed that you've uploaded a large amount of material from the IWM (very nice BTW) and was wondering if you could help me out a bit. I notice that the ones you upload don't have the watermark on them, which I can't seem to avoid. Can you upload for me photograph E 3660? Oberiko 04:51, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The pictures I've uploaded don't have the watermark because they are cropped. Actually, I tried to remember to upload both variants: the original one (just in case) and then to "override" it with the cropped one (without large pieces of empty sky/land/... and without the watermark). So, unfortunately no, I don't have access to pre-marked versions and I don't know a method of removing watermarks. Sorry. Bukvoed 06:08, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request

[edit]

Could you please check that I have tagged Image:Lublinyeshiva.jpg correctly? I took the image from Hebrew Wikipedia, but unfortunately I do not know that language at all, so I simply made reasonable guesses as to the author and license information. Thanks in advance. Balcer 22:30, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The tag in HebWiki says "The user who uploaded this image, <user name>, declares that he renounces all author's rights for the image and releases it into public domain". So your guesses seem to be correct. Bukvoed 12:29, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Categories vs. galleries

[edit]

Please leave category information in place after you have added images to galleries. Both ways of looking at and searching through images are valid and have their own value. Removing pre-existing and correct information is counter productive. Thanks for your understanding. Kind regards, Siebrand 15:44, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Old AA guns at Batey ha-Osef Museum

[edit]

Hi,

Thanks for sharing your pictures of this museum's remarkable collection. Do you have an idea how old AA guns such as the 13.2 mm Hotchkiss and the early 20 mm Oerlikon eventually reached Israel? Thanks PpPachy 14:04, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know when and how these specific models were obtained. Most likely, they were purchased in late 40s or 50s somewhere in Europe, as was most of the WW2 and pre-WW2 era stuff. Bukvoed 09:42, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Patton tank identification

[edit]

Image:Patton-Dozer-latrun-1.jpg - M48 or M60 ? I categorise Patton tanks and i dont know where i shuld drop that image --Pmgpmg 18:40, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say it's M60. See the image talk page for discussion.
Also... in my humble opinion, the names of the new categories are not unique enough. There probably were/are a lot of pieces of US military equipment and other things called M46 (or M47/M48/M60). I think "M46 Patton", "M47 Patton", "M48 Patton" would be much better. M60, however, was never officially known as Patton. Perhaps "M60 tank" ? :Bukvoed 13:18, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is an M60 tank. It looks a little different from US versions because it has the low-profile cupola. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.225.128.106 (talk • contribs)

Image of Atomic Annie ?

[edit]

Hi Bukvoed, I see you have a big interest in artillery and recently recatalogued an image of Atomic Annie... can you look at Image:VWM240mmAtomicAnnie01.jpg - it looks incorrectly labelled, compared to Image:M65 Atomic canon 2.jpg regards. Rcbutcher (talk) 15:41, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The gun does look like Atomic Annie without its prime mover(s). And according to [1] Virginia War Museum is supposed to possess one of those. Of course it's 280 mm, not 240 mm. Bukvoed (talk) 20:10, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sopwith Camel

[edit]

This photo you took of a wrecked Sopwith Camel in Australia, do you know, was it a real Camel, or was it a replica aircraft? It looks authentic. Did you really take this picture in Jan 2007 and its just sitting out in the weather rotting away? Like wow. I love Camels, i would love to rescue this from destruction from the weather and elements somehow. How big is the museum, is it out in the middle of nowhere? starguy

The museum is pretty small, seems like private collection. It is located on the outskirts of Melbourne, you can find the map, address and phone here: [2]. It has two WWI era german guns, another gun barrel, about a dozen of carriages / limbers / field kitchens, a few machine guns and rifles, some other equipment, photos et cetera. Plus one 25 pdr in the backyard. And, of course, the Camel in the open. Unfortunately, I don't know if it is real; when I visited the museum, I was primarily interested in artillery.
If you want to help, I guess you can contact the owner. Bukvoed (talk) 15:44, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. It looks authentic, because the engine is still in it, and those rotaries are too valuable for a kit builder to abandon to rust. I had already found their address via a web search, and zoomed in on them via satellite view. I will be writing the museum to see if there's anything I can do; unfortunately I am on the complete other side of the world. Maybe at minimum I can send them money to at least buy a aluminum storage building over it until something can be done.

Question

[edit]

This is an interesting photo. Location is (en:Goldap) and date is 11-44. Can you help categorize it properly? And what is the significance of the text? I think I know but I am not 100% sure given my poor knowledge of the language.balcer (talk) 15:13, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The text says in a rhymed form "Soldier ! Don't forgive Majdanek and take vengeance on the beast mercilessly !". I don't see how I can improve the categorization. Bukvoed (talk) 20:17, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I guess the current categories will have to do. Interesting quote, though as with all the photos from Bundesarchiv, it is highly probable that the sign in the photo was made by the Nazis for propaganda purposes. I am in no position to judge whether it is authentic. balcer (talk) 21:13, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if the sign was made by Germans, it's very good job. The wording and overall style seem Soviet to me. The language is correct with one exception - the word "беспощадно" is written "беспощядно", a violation of one of the first mnemonic rules taught in school today, but I can imagine a man with imperfect education, probably not the author of the text, making a mistake like that, it's basically writing the word the way it sounds. And I don't see why a German propaganda poster would concentrate on their own atrocities. However... who knows... Bukvoed (talk) 08:42, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that the sign looks credible, but then again by late 1944 the Germans must have had a lot of propaganda experts who knew Russian well enough. The sign and its photo could have been made to scare the Germans into resisting the Red Army with more determination. As far as I know, the brief incursion of the Red Army into East Prussia in late 1944 was heavily exploited by German propaganda (en:Nemmersdorf massacre etc.) Anyway, given how little information we have, linking the sign to articles in Wikipedia is bound to stir controversy so I will certainly not do it. balcer (talk) 17:00, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your photos of 4-inch submarine gun at Haifa naval museum

[edit]

Hi Bukvoed, regarding your photographs of the 4-inch submarine gun at the Haifa naval museum... do you have any information about the model ? I think it's Mark XXIII, based its apparent short length (33-cal), but it would be good if we could attach a more authoritative description to it. EN Wikipedia reports S class submarine as equipped with Mark XXII (40-cal). regards. Rod. Rcbutcher (talk) 07:04, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I don't have any additional info. I guess the photo description (4 inch gun of the type used on INS Tanin/Rahav) came from the museum plate. I agree that the gun looks like more Mk XIII. Bukvoed (talk) 19:44, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Bukvoed!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

use of one of your images in a book

Please could you tell me whether it is OK to use it in the book (it will have a printrun of about 1000) and what credit line you would like included. I am a new user on Wikimedia, so please forgive my ignorance about how it works! Many thanks!

Hi. Sorry for letting you wait, I didn't log in for about two weeks. It is completely OK to to use the photo in the book. As for credit line, "Photo by Bukvoed" will be enough. Bukvoed (talk) 05:53, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

M4A4 Sherman. Ain92 (talk) 04:25, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bukvoed (talk) 10:53, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ain92 (talk) 20:21, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Bukvoed (talk) 13:42, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
1. Bukvoed (talk) 08:18, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sdot Yam photos

[edit]

Hi Bukvoed,

Are you the same photographer that posted photos from the museum at Sdot Yam on Picasa? I would like to recommend the use of your photo of the statue of Tyche of Caesarea. Is it your photo? Did the museum allow photography? Would you be willing to provide a high resolution version? Please contact me at waltonimagesupply@gmail.com. Thank you for considering my request.

[edit]

Ain92 (talk) 20:04, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

35. Bukvoed (talk) 13:22, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Ain92 (talk) 14:11, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bukvoed (talk) 10:57, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Во-первых, переведите, пожалуйста File:Flickr_-_Israel_Defense_Forces_-_Hezbollah_Rockets_Found_in_Itron.jpg.

Bukvoed (talk) 13:11, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ain92 (talk) 17:09, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Bukvoed (talk) 20:48, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Tanks and AFVs of the British Army 1939–1945 и British Tanks and Armoured Fighting Vehicles 1939–1945, то столкнулся с тем, что почти каждое третье фото дублируется. Ain92 (talk) 19:56, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Bukvoed (talk) 15:39, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ISU-152 photo

[edit]

[8] Want to correct, machine on this photo is actually БТТ-1 on Russian, whick means ArmoredTankTractor-1, tractor based on ISU-152. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dosenoffner (talk • contribs)

Thanks, but it is not. There are 3 ISU-based vehicles in Latrun. The only one with wheels and tracks painted in white is ISU-152: [9], [10]. The other two have black wheels and tracks. One of them is ISU with gun removed, labeled as command vehicle [11], [12]; however, I think it's ISU-T tractor. The last is BTT-1 [13], [14]; it is easily recognizable by rear spade and platform above engine compartment. Bukvoed (talk) 19:52, 10 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ain92 (talk) 17:53, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bukvoed (talk) 09:06, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, because there are so few gallery pages editors make mistakes when they find one because they assume it is a category. Would you mind if this page was dispensed with, i mean deleted. Yafo museum

[edit]

Bonjour,

Cordialement' --Mylenos (talk) 10:19, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it the information in the captions is often insufficient. Unfortunately, it's all the information I have. Bukvoed (talk) 12:02, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request for permission to use image in art history book

[edit]

Hello,

I am writing to request permission to use your photograph of a pavement mosaic of Helios at the center of a zodiac for a book in art history. The book is on Roman art related to this image. Would you be willing to let me use the image?

The title of the file is: Hamat-Tiberias-119.jpg. Unfortunately, my publisher is only letting me use black and white images, so I would be converting it to black and white. But I would give you credit and send you a page scan of where I use it.

I would be happy to pay you for your fine photography, but I should point out that because I won't be making any money from this book, my resources will be limited.

Thanks very much for your help, and thank you for your work.

Please write to me at gdp2@stmarys-ca.edu.

[edit]

Ain92 (talk) 11:07, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ain92 (talk) 16:29, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Bukvoed (talk) 13:42, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
