Please tag your images
[edit]
Thank you for providing images to the Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikipedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best use CommonsHelper
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.
Thank you.

File source is not properly indicated: File:US-KS-Haviland-HallsFleaMarket-2006.01.10.jpeg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:US-KS-Haviland-HallsFleaMarket-2006.01.10.jpeg, is missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted.
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Please be more specific
[edit]Hi Brylie! Thanks for your contributions to Wikimedia Commons. When filing a picture, please be more specific with the categories. A picture of Pier 14 in San Francisco is perfectly categorized if you put it in "Pier 14, San Francisco". There is no need to also file it in "San Francisco", "California" and "United States". These are all parent categories of "Pier 14, San Francisco". Just imagine, everybody would file all pictures taken in the U.S. in the category "United States"!! The result would be a mess. Thanks for your understanding. -- Simisa (talk) 07:51, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
- Ditto the above for adding tens or more images of a single event. E.g. add to the "Occupy Evergreen" category but not "Olympia, Washington" category. Thanks. Brianhe (talk) 06:21, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Please give images better names
[edit]
As I look at your uploaded files, I see they use a similar pattern: your name followed by a date/time code. This is completely useless for users who are searching for images. It also means that other editors now have to spend time taking corrective action.

Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 02:00, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Category DigiKam
[edit]Hi,
you added the category "DigiKam" to several pictures. I think you did this because you took those pictures with your digital camera. But the category is connected to the software DigiKam. Please remove this category from your uploaded files.

Hi Brylie, who is the creator of the original sculpture and when has it been installed? Commons:FOP#Finland covers only buildings. --Túrelio (talk) 16:17, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
- Wäinö Aaltonen, installed circa 1926-1927

- Thanks. But then we have a problem, as Wäinö Aaltonen died only in 1966, his works are likely still copyrighted (70 years pma). --Túrelio (talk) 18:45, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Clear issue with Complexity Academy uploads
[edit]@Thuresson, Daphne Lantier, and EugeneZelenko: There seems to be an issue here that is evidently unresolved. The uploads look spammy with the information provided, and their context with lack of categorisation and detailed description to contextualise is a clear issue. The bit-wise addressing of this issue with regard to copyright, and the undeletions seems less than ideal.
These uploads need
- resolution of their copyright
- better descriptions that help make them clearly educational and within scope
- categorisation
- removal of the spammy aspects that make them seem like promotional uploads
Brylie: Can you please clarify if you have any vested interest with "Complexity Academy". If there is that interest that needs to be declared.
Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:43, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- I didn't watch videos completely to judge about fitting into project scope, but some of files had YouTube standard license. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:15, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
Hi all,
Thanks for reviewing these videos. I have verified with the original author that all of the Complexity Academy videos are freely available under the CC-by license. As a recent comment indicates, the videos that were accidentally released under the YouTube standard license have been updated to reflect the desired CC-by license.
I believe the videos fall under the Wikimedia Commons Project scope because they are freely licensed educational materials uploaded in a free file format. The Complexity Academy videos are well produced and offer a wide view of several topics related to systems thinking, complexity, and other topics that could be useful for Wikimedia sister projects such as Wikiversity.
I am willing to further assist with categorization, etc., as time permits, but believe that simply uploading the entire video lecture series is an important first step to mirroring this valuable content.
