Low-quality SVG versions

You know, I find it very distinctly annoying when people make a claimed SVG equivalent of a previously-uploaded image without checking to see whether the details are in fact correct, and then rush to carelessly slap a "SupersededSVG" tag on the previous image.

On your image Image:Three-Crescents-Diane-Poitiers.svg the points aren't pointed!!!! Compare the upper 20-30 pixel lines of that SVG image with those of Image:Three-Crescents-Diane-Poitiers.png, paying attention to detail this time, and I'm sure you'll be able to find some rather obvious differences...

If I had been able to solve the "clipping" problem, then I might have uploaded and SVG equivalent of Image:Three-Crescents-Diane-Poitiers.png months ago (as I have already done for Image:Three-Crescents-Diane-Poitiers-multicolored.png , where clipping is not involved). I'm distinctly less than impressed that you didn't in fact solve the clipping problem, but went right ahead and uploaded an SVG anyway. AnonMoos 13:20, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

I noticed the issue with the sharpness of the ends of the crescents. I didn't think it was a significant issue. Especially since it is a limitation of how strokes are handled in inkscape. I think it would be possible to tweak my image and add the points in if you would like. I think this discussion is better served to be in the talk page of the image itself. I enjoy learning inkscape with projects that I find interesting in the wikipedia. I'm not sure what the best method is for tagging something as superseded. If I don't do it right away I tend to forget about it. Should I put a note in the original authors talk page? What is a reasonable time to wait before I should consider the work acceptable? I'm interested what you think the right method is.

I realize you must have suffered this indignity many times before, but I'm new here. I don't think your tact is the best method to get me to modify my behavior. At least let me know the correct path I should take while letting me know how annoying I am. I do appreciate you taking the time to let me know where I screwed up. The reason why the sharpened version of the SVG didn't display at all in WikiMedia renderer was probably because the SVG contained a reference to an external raster image on your local hard drive ("C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Pictures\inkscape\three crescents\Three-Crescents-Diane-Poitiers.png"), which WikiMedia seems to severely frown on. I tried to simplify the SVG, and now it displays as blank for some reason in WikiMedia (which is actually an improvement over not displaying at all!). When I open the file in Adobe SVG plugin, the crescents are properly interlaced, but when I load it in Inkscape, they're not (one crescent is on top of the other two), so I don't know what's going on... Image Tagging Image:Nuvola apps kalzium.svg

Thanks for uploading Image:Nuvola apps kalzium.svg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. A.J. You gave GFDL and CC licenses for this image, but original work is licensed on {{LGPL}}. Please put the same license on your derivative work too, and modify your other works based on Nuvola apps. A.J. (talk) 13:15, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Request for permission to use English language political map of Africa

Dear Bobarino,

I work for an environmental charity, we have finished producing a report on deforestation in Africa and I am very in using your translation modification of the political map in our report (the English language modification created by Baborino, here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:African_continent-en.svg). The report would be made available for free online. I am also interested in perhaps altering the image to highlight the specific countries of interest to our report (by tinting their territories in grey, for example).

Would you be happy for me to use in this way and under the Creative Commons license, should I attribute the image to you or the author of the original image, Eric Gaba (Sting)?

I have no problem with you using the map. I'm not sure what the license attached to it was. If you do attribute someone attribute the author of the original image. Bobarino (talk) 23:52, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
