How to add categories
[edit]Hi Billofocham. The following may be useful to you - Commons:Categories#Categorizing pages. You are including the "parent" category in the "child" category - instead of the other way around. See for an example. Cheers, Mattinbgn (talk) 00:40, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
- In your edits to Category:Streets in Brisbane, you're donig it again. Please read the policy Mattinbgn mentioned, especially COM:OVERCAT. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 09:57, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
How to move categories

Sandgate eventide home
[edit]I notice you have just removed a lot of photos of the Sandgate retirement home from the Sandgate category. Is there any reason for this? Mark Marathon (talk) 07:15, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
- I have no idea why you added my talk page to the empty category "Sandgate eventide home". It is puzzling to say the least. If you can not provide an explanation for the removal of Sandgate category from the abovementioned images, I will be adding it back. Cheers. Mark Marathon (talk) 23:12, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
Edit. I notice that on that empty category page, you make the claim that "Eventide Home" is an existing sub category of the category "Sandgate, Queensland." If that is the case, it need to be changed. "Eventide" is a generic name for a Protestant nursing home. There are at least 5 Eventides in Queensland alone that I am aware of, and probably more. There are certainly thousands worldwide. There is no possible justification for making Eventide a subcategory of Sandgate. Cheers. Mark Marathon (talk) 23:59, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
Sorry Mark. Adding your talk page to "Sandgate eventide home" was entirely accidental; I have now removed it. I am new to this Talk business and find it highly un-intuitive. I was attempting to reply to your question re Eventide Home.
"Eventide Home" is a sub cat. of "Sandgate, Queensland" and the Eventide files that were in Sandgate were also in the sub category. I merely removed the duplication. The files in question date from the 1940s and 50s and all are of the Eventide home at Sandgate. Would a new subcategory of Sandgate, Queensland called "Eventide Home, Sandgate" address your concerns? The Queensland Government state archives have a category of that name. --Billofocham (talk) 03:01, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply, and apologies for my abruptness. I shouldn't post from work when I'm busy. I think we should rename either rename "Eventide Home" to "Eventide Home, Sandgate" or else make "Eventide Home, Sandgate" a subcategory of "Eventide Home". That way if we get pictures of the other eventide homes, they won't automatically become associated with Sandgate. Mark Marathon (talk) 07:20, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
- OK. Changes made as follows:
I have created the category "Eventide Homes, Sandgate," moved the Sandgate Eventide files to it, and made it a subcategory of:
Category:Aged care homes in Queensland
Category:Retirement homes in Australia
Category:Sandgate, Queensland
"Aged care ... "and "Retirement homes ..." are on different stems.
Some of the Sandgate Eventide files (not all) were already in the "Retirement homes in Australia" category. It looks as though on Commons the usage "retirement home" is more general than "aged care," so someone with expertise and interest in the area might like to examine the terminology. As far as I can tell these are all of the Eventide homes files on Commons.
One of the files that should have moved to the new subcategory "appears" to be stuck in Eventide Home, so I will leave the matter for the moment. Cheers, --Billofocham (talk) 04:54, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
Regattas in Queensland has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this gallery, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. |

Reminder: Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2016 is open!
[edit]You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2016 Picture of the Year contest.
Dear Billofocham,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2016 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eleventh edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2016) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category.
In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 20 April 2017, 23:59:59 UTC.
Thanks,
--Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 08:42, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
Tsuga in Fairfax County, Virginia
[edit]You have improperly placed this category within Tsuga canadensis (Virginia).this is making the incorrect assumption that all Tsuga in Fairfax County are Tsuga canadensis, which is not a good assumption. Please revert. If you want some images removed from the Tsuga canadensis category, you should have created a category called Tsuga canadensis in Fairfax County.Famartin (talk) 02:10, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

整個三峽區這麼大,就只有一處森林?我看過地圖,三峽區是個多山的環境,而且區內有多條河流,這樣被切割,算起來就不止一處了,所以不清楚當初你建立分類時,是想表達什麼意思。--Kai3952 (talk) 17:23, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

Ritsa-Auadhara National Park has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |
