Flickr upload
[edit]Hi, everything is ok with your flickr upload Image:Frederik Ehmke.jpg, you only uploaded a low resolution version of the image. You can select the "all sizes" button in the upper left of the image http://flickr.com/photos/shadowgate/530043000/in/photostream and then select different resolutions. The maximum resolution will be the best for commons in most cases. Thx for your contribution! --Martin H. (talk) 17:40, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, my fault, you cropped a part of the image, i just saw the resolution... sorry. --Martin H. (talk) 17:41, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- That's allright. :) I can look if there's higher resolution, but in fact, in a wiki article there will be little difference.--Beaumain (talk) 22:40, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi,
Could you fix the Flickr links, they don't point to the correct picture on Flickr? --Dereckson (talk) 15:42, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
- It is a correct link.[1]. You may mention the drummer behind Robert Lowe's back. It is the same photo with File:Candlemass - Robert Lowe.jpg, just another cropped part. Drummers are unfortunate when it comes to seek a portrait, it is only possible to cut them off the larger pictures.
Some of the images bot failed to identify are ajusted and/or cropped, to better fit articles in Wikipedia. A human reviewer will see they are the same images with higher brightness/contrast, removed digital camera noise and cropped canvas. --Beaumain (talk) 18:22, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
File tagging File:Epidemia.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:Epidemia.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Epidemia.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

File source is not properly indicated: File:Владимир Холстинин.JPG
[edit]This media was probably deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Владимир Холстинин.JPG, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (
[[:File:Владимир Холстинин.JPG]] ).
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

- Okay, I fixed it. The problem was with uploader bot. It should have uploaded images, but only created pages. I uploaded them myself, then, but the license I added in upload page was not added automatically. --Beaumain (talk) 19:35, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
File:Metal's not dead.jpg
[edit]Could you please explain the reason behind this file's title? I'm sure there are many people who still listen to heavy metal music, right? Fangusu (talk) 04:41, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
- The title is the same as in Flickr original. I kept it when uploading, because it was great :) I believe, too, the metal's not dead until there are people who love it.Beaumain (talk) 12:27, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
I understood, but how come the Flickr original had this title? Fangusu (talk) 15:58, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
- Just because original Flickr uploader - I presume, the photographer or the model - named it that way.--Beaumain (talk) 03:25, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons does not accept derivative works of non-free works such as File:Graphiti of Tintin, Brussels Belgium.jpg. It only accepts free content, which is images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Reproductions of copyrighted works are also subject to the same copyright, and therefore this file must unfortunately be considered non-free. For more information, please read Commons:Derivative works and Commons:Freedom of panorama. You can ask questions about Commons policies in Commons:Help desk.
The file you added has been deleted. If you believe that this file was not a derivative work of a non-free work, you may request undeletion.

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open
[edit]Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:
- Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
- This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
- Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons
Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Copyright status: File:Dub & Holst cropped.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Dub & Holst cropped.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Beaumain. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Beaumain~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
