From lion d'Or contributer- Mlane

Thank you for taking the time to explain.

JPEG is certainly easier for me to do. The instructions were to stay in JPEG, if it was photographs, but otherwise PNG. My results didn't look like photos in my mind, so I reasoned that must mean to do PNG. On my screens (laptop and iPhone) they both look the same. I'll follow your advice. Thank you.

As to the original: I'm not sure if that is the original. I went back to the the Inn and took another picture, since I wasn't sure I kept the first one. I'll have to revisit the new uploaded image again, as I had so many versions. I'm not sure what I did.

As to size, I certainly understand the concept, and agree, why double the download. However, the execution may take me a little time to work out.

As to the filtered image, after looking at the filtered image, I'm surprised I was pleased with it. My memory is that out of curiosity, I used a total of 3 or 4 filters from the smart phone, and possibly 2 in Photoshop, non of which I remembered. I think it was the first time I had done something like that, and I was shocked that it worked. Simple pleasures.

Thank you again for the advice. Mlane Mlane (talk) 13:25, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Okay, but I'll refuse to discuss one topic on more than two talk pages… ;-) –Be..anyone (talk) 14:07, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

HIV Image deletion

You have opposed the deletion of the image used on the HIV page by claiming that the image is in fact encyclopedic even though it does not have a reliable source. How do you reconcile this obvious contradiction? Please read the discussion on the HIV talk page and reconsider your decision.DavoDavoDavo (talk) 05:14, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

JFTR, this was about one of the deletion requests for File:HIV_Virion-en.png. The proponent added his comment on my user page :-(Be..anyone (talk) 06:56, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

File types, Video, Software... Help pages

Thank you very much for cleaning up all those help pages! --McZusatz (talk) 19:37, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Take a look at the talk-page on this file: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File_talk:CC%2BCommercial-license-button.svg. The cross must be thick. Wereldburger758 (talk) 10:21, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

Oops, moving my reply to the linked talk page, sorry. –Be..anyone (talk) 11:43, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I'm sorry I messed up your formatting. Please be advised that the text you are using for (is it Spanish?) is incorrect, as is the Hebrew that you reverted to. The winged lion has NOTHING to do with Jerusalem and everything to do with the Lion of Saint Mark and the Generali insurance company. I corrected the English text; perhaps you could base your translation on that? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 19:00, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Answered on your talk page, I'll "archive" (= blank) the continuation here soon, because the new content was presumably fine, only the wiki markup was broken. –Be..anyone (talk) 08:13, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Every SVG file uploaded to Wikimedia Commons should show
  • how it was made: use template {{Inkscape}}, {{Adobe}}, {{HandSVG}} or whatsever
  • whether it is W3C valid or invalid: set the appropriate parameter, e.g. {{Inkscape|v}}

Be..anyone (talk) 07:42, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
–Be..anyone (talk) 08:49, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
Postscript, Uf is broken. –Be..anyone (talk) 08:07, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
The {{Uf}} isn't broken, as I told you earlier. It is just a bit inconvienient when used on some places, then it needs the parameter#4-hyphen. At most places it works fine; nevertheless, setting the hyphen works always. But it needs to be set explicitely by parameter, it should not be the standard.
–Be..anyone (talk) 19:12, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
–Be..anyone (talk) 21:23, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
Update, apparently {{Igen}} is the designated successor of {{Uf}}. –Be..anyone (talk) 22:01, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

Closure of Commons:Categories for discussion/2014/04/Category:Three Sisters

The current Category:Three Sisters could be renamed Category:Three Sisters (volcano system) or something like that so that Category:Three sisters (siblings) could be created. As it is right now, if anyone finds a photo with three girls in it who are all sisters, it'll go in Category:Three Sisters which is where a volcano system is. I don't think Reykholt fully grasped why the category was up for discussion. --Mjrmtg (talk) 18:33, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

@Mjrmtg: Please correct me, but the volcanoes are already a redirect from Three Sisters, and Three sisters is available for another redirect to a disambiguation Three sisters (siblings), or similar solutions. –Be..anyone (talk) 21:13, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
I didn't notice you created that redirect, thank you :) --Mjrmtg (talk) 23:04, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
Admittedly I also only saw it after I closed this debate as an "obviously very old answered question about some S vs. s issue"; my bad, nothing was obvious. Reykholt created the redirect before the CfD. :-). –Be..anyone (talk)

League of Legends.png

I'm still here, yeah. I just wanna ask you a question. If I upload text from the same image it won't be licensed anyway? I mean like simple text logo or something else?--Spillik (talk) 09:59, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

Follow-up to a DR: Now I'm lost, I don't recall what text you had on your image. If you want to use the image on Wikipedia upload it there (not here) as "fair use" (it's definitely possible, but no guarantee that it survives there.)
If you want to quote some text in an article on Wikipedia, that's by definition "fair use" (ignoring madness like "I quoted a complete book", of course). You could use w:en:Template:Cite web#Quote in a reference for some statement, example:

This is odd.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://where.you.found.it
|title=title of the web page|date=2014|accessdate=2015-01-01|author=who wrote that
|publisher=LoL.org (or whatever if relevant)|quote=The oddity here is the copyright}}</ref>

Be bold is a policy, if you get it wrong somebody will fix or revert it, no problem. –Be..anyone (talk) 10:30, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

Categories

This edit in removing Category:Christopher Michel was done since the subject is not Christopher Michel. It is supposed to be in Category:Photographs by Christopher Michel and I have now added it here. Alan Liefting (talk) 22:54, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

This AWB thingy lies in edit summaries. Tnx for fixing the cat, I was sure that it's no selfie, but couldn't figure out who was the person and who was the photographer. –Be..anyone (talk) 23:44, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
