User talk:ArthurWeasley~commonswiki
OK, I've put all licensing and author acknowledgement in order for all the images I've uploaded on wiki (there are 100s of them). I am really fed up with the increasingly abusive wiki commons policy concerning images so am now taking an indefinite leave. I think it's fair to say that people generally found my images useful to illustrate their articles: some are in fact used in more than 100 wiki articles across the globe. All the images are under a creative commons license, meaning that you are free to use them as long as the author is acknowledged "in the manner specified by the author" (quoting the exact term from the CC license). This does not mean that they are in the public domain and should still be considered copyrighted materials: you can not modify a CC license file and put it into public domain, like it was done here: [1], the CC license should be transferred. Now some people in wiki commons increasingly think that when somebody upload an image there under a CC license, the author has forfeited all rights. You apparently are no longer allowed to request to delete an image. This [2] was for instance a perfectly valid request for deletion, the image is misleading and should not be used in an encyclopedia in lights of the most recent research but the reason it was kept is "license can not be revoked" without discussion. Although, it is true that a CC license is perpetual, licensor still has "the right to release the Work under different license terms or to stop distributing the Work at any time", meaning that requesting the deletion of a file is not unlawful. This was the third time I've requested to delete a few images (it's perhaps 1% of all my image upload) but got denied without any reason, for instance here [3]. The second time I admit I made a mistake, I changed the license term as a shortcut as it took months the first time before somebody look into the requests (which were eventually granted), but then some random admin decided without so much as a warning to delete my entire gallery! The bottom line is I will no longer donate any image to wiki commons, as all the effort I've put in lately generated less "thank you for your contribution" notes than insulting comments from random editors, and lots of administrative misery on the gestion of the images. This indefinite block without so much as an explanation was the last blow (Thanks for User:FunkMonk for lifting it). If there are still admins out there with a shred of common sense who would like to go over the deletion requests, they are welcome to contact me. And since, apparently all editors are now guilty and potential vandals, until proven innocent, User:Zscout370 is welcome to put back the indefinite block... So long.ArthurWeasley (talk) 01:24, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing Commons. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may add {{Unblock}} below this message explaining clearly why you should be unblocked. For more information, see Appealing a block. See the block log for the reason that you have been blocked and the name of the administrator who blocked you.

- You're obviously correct that your rights were violated at [4]. I've made a few edits which I hope correct that situation. (I haven't looked into the rest of the issues you raise above.) --99of9 (talk) 11:19, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

- Thank for all your's amazing work you made for Commons, for Wikipedia, and for the rest of the free content world. Commons really screwed up in your case, but misunderstandings like this sometimes happen -- Commons has millions of pictures, tens of thousands of contributors, and only handful of active admins. I hope you'll forgive Commons for that fuck up, and give it a second chance, but if not, anyway, so long and thank you for dinosaurs. --Trycatch (talk) 17:45, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
File:Poposaurus BW.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Hopefully I can clean up the humungous mess that commons has cause. Just so Arthur knows, I have caused en:File:Remingtonocetus.jpg, and en:File:Kutchicetus.png, the two right violating images to be deleted, and are currently trying to get the inaccurate images mentioned above deleted as well. Hopefully Arthur will come back, hopefully :( IJReid (talk) 16:13, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

As thanks for all the amazing, accurate, and overall fantastic images you have contributed over the years. Commons was horrible, but like the oil spills that have happened, over the years it has been cleaning up its act. Maybe someday, everything that made Commons a good project will come back, and the many mistakes by the administration will be corrected. Hopefully in the future, you will come back, and hopefully, your rights will be respected. Until then, take this barnstar, IJReid (talk) 16:21, 27 September 2014 (UTC) |

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called ArthurWeasley. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name ArthurWeasley~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

File tagging File:Deinotherium giganteum.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Deinotherium giganteum.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |
