Request on a flag
[edit]Hello, I have recently created a page on the flag of the Székelys on Wikipedia and I could not find a proper version of the unofficial red and black version. I have seen that you have uploaded lots of flags, so I was wondering if you could create a proper version of the flag. Here is a source that may help you [1]. Thanks! Super Dromaeosaurus (talk) 23:21, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Super Dromaeosaurus: That's a tricky one but I'll give it a shot. Do you have any other links where the whole design is visible? Thanks!. --Argean (talk) 11:54, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
- Yeah, here are they: [2][3]. By the way, there are images of that flag uploaded on Commons ([4], [5], the last one is another less common variant), but they are of low quality or just a photo of a real flag. Super Dromaeosaurus (talk) 12:56, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Super Dromaeosaurus: Here you are
- I decided to use this version because it looks like the ones in the photos. I hope it looks fine :) --Argean (talk) 23:55, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
- It looks perfect! Better than I could have ever done it. Thanks for your help! Super Dromaeosaurus (talk) 00:13, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Super Dromaeosaurus: No problem! Happy to help :) --Argean (talk) 07:45, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Cultural flags
[edit]Hi, regarding Matabele people - I've never seen a blue-gray before maybe it's better, maybe worse. I prefer this one
better flag for Cebuanos, even though I haven't found an explanation of the symbols anywhere but still seems more appropriate than province`s flag.
Native Canadian peoples: Nisga'a, Tłı̨chǫ and Franco-Ténois
this flag is reported on several Turkish-speaking sites as belonging to Iranian Turkmens.
w:File:Mulatto212.jpg this file signed as Mulattas flag.
if I ever find something else, I will write. - 213.192.68.53 17:15 17.11.2020
- @213.192.68.53: Thanks for the suggestions! Regarding the Matabele: you can see the flag here along with the one you suggested. I'm not sure though if the latter is correct because the facebook page of MLF shows a different flag. I'll search it a little further I guess.
- Your suggestion for Cebuanos is good, although I can't find many sources with this flag. I don't like the choices for many of the Filipino flags, but then I don't really know much about their different flags.
- I will add Nisga'a and Tlicho to Native Canadians, but Franco-Tenois are of European origin. There are many Flags of French-speaking people of North America, but I've been a little hesitant to add all of them.
- You're right about Iranian Turkmens (I want to upgrade the quality of the vector file at some point though), and I know the proposed Mulatto flag but didn't know where to add it.
- Feel free to make suggestions any time. --Argean (talk) 21:56, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
I would Mulatto flag add to multiethnic Americas.
here is the flag for English\European New Zealanders
new flags for Subanon people version1 and version2
not reliable flag for Norwegian South Africans
Hungarians in Serbia according to the Serbian [version]
Aṉangu (Aboriginal Australian group)
Saibai Islanders or Kalaw Lagaw Ya language
my comment as to Kashubs: that flag is official but not the most popular. The version with this coat of arms on the black strip or in the center appears most often. I know this because I live in the area.
- 213.192.68.53 18:50 18.11.2020
- @213.192.68.53: Thanks, I'm already aware of all these flags, apart from the recently uploaded Subanese flags and the Anangu and Saibai flags that I missed before for some reason. Unfortunately all others are either fake/user-made flags (the flag of Hungarians in Serbia is just the logo of their association displayed on the flag of Hungary - the actual flag is the one already included in the gallery) that don't have any sources at all, or obsolete colonial flags (the Vietnamese ones).
- Regarding the Kashubian flag: thanks for the information. I recently vectorised the Kashubian coat of arms - this one , but I haven't uploaded it yet, but I uploaded an svg version of the banner of the CoA - here . Can you please let me know which version is actually the most popular one? The one with the all-black griffin or the one that has red tongue and yellow claws? Thanks. --Argean (talk) 22:10, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
- P.S. I forgot to mention that the Tat flag was recently deleted from Commons because the design is a copyvio of the old logo of Vauxhall - this one . I recently found a source about a different design - [6] which I'm due to vectorise and upload some time soon. --Argean (talk) 22:19, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
The original flag was created before the war and was accepted at 1929. Is commonly used on monuments, buildings, etc.
this Banner was also established 90 years ago, is still in use.
I also saw a completely different - seven-color. It has to do with traditional embroidery (three shades of blue, red, yellow, green and black\brown). I saw her only once myself.
the official coat of arms does not really exist, but this version was used until around 2000, then this version was created on a strange dial . It clearly differed from the voivodeship coat of arms . The new version is all black, rather, for no apparent reason.
The most popular flags today are these two [[7]] sometimes without an inscription.
I mention the informal ensign + in this form
PS if you want to made new file, here you have a nice base [[8]]
- 213.192.68.53 13:40 19.11.2020
- @213.192.68.53: Many thanks for the very detailed reply. I'll create a vectorised version of the flag as you suggested and upload it to Commons. By the way and since you are from the region, I was wondering, is there any regional flag for w:Kociewie? I really like the region's coat of arms , but I can't find any flag. I found this post at Deviantart [9] back from 2015 where a user has created a suggested design for a flag, but I can't find anything else on the web. Are you aware of anything?
- Regarding Minahan's online database, I'm already aware of it, but I know that it's not very reliable and it requires double-checking all sources, because unfortunately there are some mistakes and innacuracies. Still a useful database though. --Argean (talk) 14:15, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
Kociewie does not have a flag and there is no one who can adopted some.

Dear Argean,
It seems that you made a duplicate of this file File:Flag of Csangos.svg whose source is the real flag [11] and not the coat of arms, as you mentioned in your description. I'm not a vexillologist, but I think your flag is a little wrong in terms of the proportions of the silver cross and the base fields. It certainly needs to be redirected, according to the policies here. I have no problem uploading your new version over mine, if you think it's the right version.
Sincerely, --Kun Kipcsak (talk) 09:00, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for your message and apologies for uploading a duplicate, since I wasn't aware that you've previously uploaded this flag. My design is actually based on multiple sources and I'm very confident that is the correct one: [12], [13], [14], [15]. I wasn't completely certain about the exact hues, since they are slightly different in some of the sources, but I used the ones from this file , that was earlier uploaded at Commons. I'm only referencing this source as a confirmation that the flag has been officially adopted by the Csango Council, not as a source for the design. Finally, if you look very carefully at the source you've used, I'm afraid that the image is actually cropped because the black border is missing at the bottom of the flag, while it's visible in all other sources. Feel free to upload my version over yours and redirect the file. Regards, --Argean (talk) 10:10, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
- P.S. This source contains also a photo of the real flag if any doubts about the correct proportions. --Argean (talk) 10:32, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
- Dear Argean,
- Thank you for the explanation. I uploaded your version to File:Flag of Csangos.svg where I mentioned you as the author of the vector file and changed the description of the RGB codes. I tagged the duplicate file to be deleted. I also improved the description to jpg and png files.
- Sincerely, --Kun Kipcsak (talk) 14:22, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- Dear @Kun Kipcsak: , thank you for doing that! I'm happy to help with any other flag designs in the future. :)
- Kind regards, --Argean (talk) 15:01, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

We need your feedback!
[edit]Hello. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Thank you!
I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.
We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.
Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.
Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.
Hope to hear from you soon! -- Sannita (WMF) (talk to me!) 09:56, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

611611 (talk • contribs) 23:08, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- Dear friend, thanks for your message. My apologies for not speaking Chinese so I had to use Google Translate to read your message. I do not completely disagree with your idea of classification, but I find it a bit problematic for 2 reasons: Firstly I find your proposed categories very big: especially the "1.Languages that Originated in Europe, North and Central Asia" seems unnecessarily clattered. The second reason, which for me is much more important, is that organising groups by linguistic classification is not completely representative of culture. For example people of the Middle East have much more similarities among them, regardless if their languages are Turkic, Semitic or Iranian. Similarly people of the Indian subcontinent have much more cultural similarities, regardless if they are Indo-Aryan or Dravidian. Your peoposed classification does not take that into account. There were long previous discussions on the page about what would be the best classification, and other authors even suggested racial ones, which caused many conflicts. I suggested at the time that the most neutral classification is a geographic one, and this has not been contested since. I know it is not perfect, but my idea was to keep the page as better organised as possible, without creating controversies or conflicts. I hope you understand and agree, but if not I am happy to discuss it further. Kind Regards, -- Argean (talk) 10:49, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

[edit]hi! i suggest renaming it by a name that describes what it technically means, "Horizontal bicolor blue and red flag - 0000A0 and FF0000 - 8 to 5.svg". what do you think? RZuo (talk) 01:00, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
- Oh absolutely agree. I didn't think about it from a more technical aspect. Many thanks! -- Argean (talk) 10:20, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
