Yep, that's right. This is going to be a concern for the other covers as well; it's very odd that the UB Library catalog lists only the date of the original book, not the paperback publication, for the Kelley Collection books. The issue here is that the text of the books is pre-1923 PD, but the cover art was created later, and so we need to determine its status. What you should do is search Stanford's database for pre-1951 books, and copyright.gov for later books, to see if there's any renewal record for these particular editions. If not, then you can probably tag them {{PD-US-not renewed}} (as long as they're pre-1964, and you're confident the artwork was not first published in some other form). Do a thorough search - check the book title, the author, and the artist's name (if known), and include information on what you did in the image description pages.

If you have a chance to go back and look at the books again, it would be helpful to check whether they give the cover artist's name, and also to record exactly what the copyright statement (on the back of the title page) says.

Also be aware that any books from 1964 or later are almost definitely not useable, since it's unlikely that the publisher left out the copyright notice, and renewal for them was automatic. Specifically, File:Cover London BeforeAdam.jpg looks to me like it may be too recent. --dave pape (talk) 19:02, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
