Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.
Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions. And also:

File:Vaterpolo-Koper logo.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Notification about possible deletion
[edit]Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

File tagging File:Renato Živković.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Renato Živković.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Renato Živković.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

File copyright status
[edit]Welcome to Wikimedia Commons. While everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the project, one or more of your file uploads had missing or false information regarding its source and copyright status. Please note that Wikimedia Commons takes copyright rules and infringement very seriously. Files may only be uploaded and included if their copyright status meets the conditions stated in our licensing policy, and if their provenance is clearly documented. Files that fail to meet those conditions may be deleted, and users who fail to meet them may be blocked. Please follow our first steps, if you haven't already. If you have questions, feel free to ask at the Village Pump copyright question page or on my talk page. Thank you. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 11:54, 22 March 2020 (UTC)
@Patrick Rogel: Hi, forgive me for the little experience but I'm new. I don't understand what I have to do to publish photos / screenshots following the rules? Could you explain to me in simple terms how I can correctly upload these files? AndreaD'orrio (talk) 12:09, 22 March 2020 (UTC)
- Please read COM:Copyright and the help at the top of this page: almost everything you find on the Internet is copyrighted by default, even if "Copyright©" is not mentionned. The only free files you can upload here are 1) your own pictures 2) pictures published under a valid license 3) pictures old enough in the country of first publication to be public domain. Besides shooting an existent photo doen't make you the copyright holder: you must obtain the original photographer's permission before using a work by him/her. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 12:14, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Copyright violations
[edit]
Hello AndreaD'orrio.
You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful. This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. |

You have been blocked for a duration of 3 months
[edit]You have been blocked from editing Commons for a duration of 3 months for the following reason: uploading unfree files after warnings.
If you wish to make useful contributions, you may do so after the block expires. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may add {{unblock|(enter your reason here) ~~~~}} below this message explaining clearly why you should be unblocked. See also the block log. For more information, see Appealing a block.

Sealle (talk) 00:08, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
@Taivo: It all seems absurd to me, it would be enough to enter from another IP to get around the block. Which I could do very well, like anyone else. Precisely for this reason I am not interested in the block, I could intervene with two sentences of circumstance where I say I understand or where I apologize. Do as you think, I respect every thought and I don't say it's right or wrong, I think it's just useless. AndreaD'orrio (talk) 14:30, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- But anonymous IP-s cannot upload anything ... Taivo (talk) 14:33, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
It so difficult create one or more account, trust me. I suppose having multiple accounts is normal, but I repeat it doesn't matter to me it's just to remind us how small our power is over other people's decisions. Your freedom ends where mine begins, and vice versa. AndreaD'orrio (talk) 14:38, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
For unblocking you must give evidence, that you really understand copyright. Most of your uploads were deleted due to copyright problems. Which problems they had? Two of your uploads are still extant. Is it mistake? How can we be sure, that your new uploads do not violate copyright? Taivo (talk) 10:05, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
@Taivo: Past uploads violated copyright. My mistake was to publish images thinking they were in the public domain, I always mentioned the author but I thought they were free for use. The future images that I will upload will be photos taken personally or images taken by Flickr from direct sources. AndreaD'orrio (talk) 10:58, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- Please be more specific. Which kind of copyright problems your previous uploads had? Is it mistake that your two uploads are not deleted? Can every Flickr photo be transferred into Commons? Taivo (talk) 11:05, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
@Taivo: As for the last question no, not all photos since many photos on Flickr are uploaded illicitly. I uploaded photos that were not in the public domain or were not CC By-Sa but were protected by copyright. As for the two photos I do not know if it is a mistake, I uploaded them believing they were free, perhaps if they were authorized they respected the regulation. But I honestly don't remember those two since several months have passed. AndreaD'orrio (talk) 11:32, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- Comment In fact even the 2 remaining files are not correct: File:NK Junak Sinj 100 year celebration.jpg is on deletion. Besides these 2 files are not as old as uploader says and have been uploaded AFTER I told user what kind of files were expressly allowed... --Patrick Rogel (talk) 13:36, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
@Patrick Rogel: Yes, it is true, from what I see I published the last images two days after your communications. But sometimes I used the common Wiki and was not clear on the "situation" of copyright, the GDPR and similar. Now I understand what I can or cannot publish, however mine were mostly carelessness of those who have no experience in this regard. AndreaD'orrio (talk) 14:22, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
However I repeat several months have passed and I have had the opportunity to understand my mistakes. I don't think it is very coherent to judge my lack of attention compared to the awareness that I have acquired. The fact is that in a month the block expires, I could already operate coherently with the Wikipedia lines to add material. AndreaD'orrio (talk) 14:26, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
@Taivo: I am waiting for response AndreaD'orrio (talk) 14:33, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Copyright status: File:Stemma dell'Hajduk Spalato.png
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Stemma dell'Hajduk Spalato.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
